Classic Firearms has some good prices on LEO trade-in glocks so I ordered a gen 2 22 (fullsize .40) and a gen 3 SF 21 (fullsize .45) both with night sights but I wouldn't be surprised if the tritium is dead. No big deal because they're mainly for fun. I don't own a .40 so I figured a $300 Glock wouldn't be a bad thing to have.

I also recently got my first .40. I've never seen the need...9mm and 45 ACP are perfectly fine in my book. However, I had a regular customer come in to pick up an Anderson complete lower and he brought a Walther PPX in .40 that he wanted to trade for the lower. He was getting rid of it because of the polymer lower; he used reloads and had a case head separate and blew out the backstrap. Walther fixed it good as new, but he didn't want to risk another blow out and also wants to still use questionable brass. I tried to give him an extra $100 or so to cover the difference, but he refused. I did give him a couple jars of honey and a dozen eggs from the backyard chickens... I suppose I have to buy some .40 ammo now and take it for a spin.

Yeah I never saw much need for a .40 for me but it was the only thing left on the shelves back from in 2013 so I figured might as well grab one since they're so cheap. Thinking about getting a .357 SIG barrel to play with too.

Actually just checked the safe to verify and it's a PPS rather than PPX. I did talk to my Storm Lake (part of Remington Outdoors now) sales rep and he said they used to make a 9mm conversion for that one, but when they were bought by Remington had to cut the number of SKUs down by about 90%...so I'd have to find a conversion from a smaller manufacturer with appropriately higher prices...

Also had a 9 mm and .45 ACP Shield show up today through S&W LEO sales. The 9 mm for a military guy about to retire and the .45 for yours truly who retired from the Army in '05. If you haven't checked out the LEO prices, they are really, really good. Retail for them is not much more (if any) than regular wholesale.

Yeah, I didn't find out I qualified for blue label guns until after I bought 3 Glocks at full price.

Beckerheads give wise councel.

The SR 22 Ruger is a great little gun indeed. Fun, fun.

Do any of you guys from Texas have a Texas license plate laying around anywhere?

I got a Pennsylvania and a Florida but still need a Texas plate.

I'm hanging them in my shop.... I definitely won't be using them when i go out robbing banks- :D

.40 is potentially dangerous with reloads. It's high pressure in a TINY powder volume without a ton of chamber support relative to 9mm, and NO room for powder error. Pistol handloads tend to be done for volume, not precision, so that's why things can get a little risky. Precision rifle handloads tend to get measured more carefully. A 1gr difference of a slow powder in a rifle cartridge is a small percentage change, but 1gr of a medium-fast powder in an already compact pistol cartridge can really blow things off the charts.

Yeah, the relatively high pressure of the .40 is why there's no SAAMI spec for +P ammo for the cartridge. I went back and read up on the Glock KB thing just to be sure. Seems that there were a lot of factors combining to make a "perfect storm" so-to-speak. Early factory ammo had weak case heads, combine that with the unsupported chamber and that can be bad. Or if you run poor reloads with too much powder or the bullet set too far back or if you chamber a round several times that can set the bullet back causing a spike in chamber pressure. If you run unjacketed bullets and lead up the barrel. Or if the case isn't properly sized it can be a shade too long and cause an out-of-battery situation. I ordered a second gen G22 so it should be late enough to have worked the bugs out of the cartridge and guns but old enough that it has some rounds through it and is vetted. It's obviously not immune to KB but I think the odds are pretty low if I stick to new factory ammo.

Oh yeah, I'd be totally confident with factory stuff.
There are just too many variables with unknown handloads, and I'd be hesitant to do it even with my own. So I don't own a .40. ;)

.45 throws a bigger slug at way lower pressures, or I can drive a 180gr .357@1000fps at lower pressure too, and get better exterior ballistics to boot.

You know what's better than a Spydie Dragonfly? TWO Dragonflies...

quoted for truth!

Not I, but I'll keep my eyes open. They don't get replaced very often.

I'll have to check the garage when I get home... I've got a stack of them in there from various places the Army took me, including USAREUR (US Army Europe) and Hawaii (two of my "overseas" tours). I may have a Texas one that came off a vehicle when I got reassigned from Texas to Hawaii.

Thanks for the compliments on the sheath everyone, sorry I didn't reply sooner but the site wasn't working for me on my phone and I'm hecka busy right now. Also I got some fleece caps in the works, if your interested they are on my site under extras. They are kinda like the Becker knife and tool ones.
