So I moved the thread here, leaving a re-direct in community did not ding anyone until that post above.

Does it not seem obvious that the above quote was directed at me for moving the thread and saying that the thread did not belong in community (it does not it belongs there) and that the poster should have been dinged.

It seems rather obvious to me who that was directed at and it was unfounded.

If it was a mistake on my part, please explain to me why that post was made and who it was directed towards and I will consider having the infraction removed. Otherwise I am letting it stand.

I'm reading through this thread right now. ValleyTinWorks, if you have an issue with something Code 3 said to you in a PM, please post it so I can read it for myself.

Folks, whenever you have problems with how a moderator handles something, you need to post it here, not hide it elsewhere in the site.

I will not reverse the infraction.

You could have sent the seller a PM or email saying you'd take it, instead of posting. What you did is your way of circumventing the rules. We have discussed this in the past, and I have told you the consequences.
Now, as I was just informed you slammed me into the dirt, we'll see what transpires from ther. I have not read it yet.
As for contacting Spark, I suggest you do so immediately. Call him at 1SKS to get the best and quickest response.

I have no idea what happened, but I have to say that last year Code 3 and I got into it. After several private messages, we resolved our conflict, and came away better for discussing it. While I will not say that we are best buds (nor enemies either), we have mutual respect for each other, and I consider him a good acquaintance. Just a thought...

No worries or problems - but could not it have been just ingored or seen as a somewhat comical phrasing? Of course you are well within your rights and duties to move things around - but why escalate a silly comment to penalty?

No challange just trying to keep myself out of trouble as well.
 
Regarding the original infraction that VTW recieved, I have a question. After just a cursory look through the production knife wts area I have come across several people who called 2nd dibs.

Were all of these people issued infractions? If so, it should state in the rules that calling 2nds is not allowed. If, on the other hand, VTW was the only one issued such an infraction, I can only assume that this is all either a large mistake compounded by poor communication or simply a personal vendetta.

i just posted the pm code 3 sent to me where felt justified in his decision.... guess spark will have to make some choices on the rules....
 
I normally don't comment on issues like this, but I do believe it is important to clarify whether it is allowable to post "second in line" or the like in FS posts.

I believe this is very important both as a seller and buyer. Sometimes the knife in question is very rare, and I want it on the record that I have second "dibs" if something happens to the original buyer. Doing this through a PM or email is not the same.

This is not chatter and it is not a free bump. In fact, it usually happens immediately after the first post, so there probably isn't a bump involved. Asking to be second in line, in fact, is directly related to the purchase/sale of the item in question, and appears completely in line with the purpose of the forum.

Likewise, as a seller, I believe it increases my chances of completing a sale as quickly as possible to have people who are legitimately interested in buying my knife on the record as such.

Can we please have an official clarification that this is OK?

The infraction I issued you was for one point, with an expiration date 10 days from yesterday. it was a nothing infraction, and certainly not anything to get your panties in a wad. I issued the infraction because you violated a rule, and that rule is clearly written. You also had the opportunity to email or PM the original poster in that thread, but you chose to add your comment to the thread, which I saw as a free bump, and chatter, in a thread that had the knife already sold. It was not seen by me as a 'I'll take it if the deal falls through' post because it wasn't worded that way, or even worded close to that.

VTW, your continued animosity towards the mods here is getting old. We have rules that are set up by the owner, and we enforce them, like it or not. yes, we do make mistakes, but I did not in this case, I issue very few infractions; instead I try to be reasonable and discuss issues in PM or email. I have tried this with you, and you chose to be hostile towards me. Now you chose to trash me in public for no reason, and instead of contacting me in private with a cool head, you pull this stunt. Shall I publish the PM you sent me earlier? It was extremely hostile and disrespectful. It was NOT a respectful request for an explanation, it was a DEMAND to remove an infraction. I will not put up with that crap from you, or anyone.

Now, you also threatened to contact Spark. I suggest you call him on the phone at 1SKS. The number is 1.502.671.5510

Make sure you point out this thread to him, and make sure that he sees how you trashed me without so much as even contacting me for clarification.

Make no mistake; we aren't going to tolerate being shit on for doing the job that Spark has charged us with. We work here for free, so we can make this a great place to hang out, and I for one won't tolerate being trashed. If this is a problem for some of you, I suggest you refrain from posting at BFC.

and further.... you received a pm about it and didnt respond till now.... so i did use the tools available

im not a kid, i am not your subordinate, and i dont owe you any respect unless its deserved.

spark is gonna make the call on these issues..... and your display and language is far more abusive than my 'code3 is out of control'....


i have never had a problem with the mods here other than you untill today.... so your claims are without merit

I do hope an explanation is forthcoming, and publicly, in regard to the original issue of this thread. If "next in line" comments are not allowed, we need to know, so that we know how we may conduct ourselves, here. If the penalty applied in regard to the original issue stands, again, we need to know. This application of penalty is likely influential for some members.

You make some good points, above all that none of the moderators should have to take crap in the course of doing a wageless and thankless job. And, if VTW did indeed send you an insulting and demanding PM I would not blame you at all for not considering to reverse your decision.

That being said, I would like to know if other people who called 2nds were also given the 1 point infraction. Speaking entirely for myself, and maybe others, I don't really care at all what the rules are just as long as they are written explicitly with no room for misinterpretation and are evenly enforced.

Ok, folks, I made a mistake.

I went and re read the thread, and it does indeed look like VTW was asking to be next in line.

I have asked Spark to reverse the infraction. VTW, you have my sincerest apology.

I will agree with some of you here that the #3 post dserved the infraction, and in my haste, I apparently read VTW's post as a free bump and chatter when it clearly wasnt.

Now, all of this crap could have been avoided with VTW Pming me and asking, respectfully, for me to clarify the infraction. Instead, I get this thread, a hostile PM, and a bunch of members throwing me to the wolves. I certainly hope this makes you all feel better, and I certainly hope none of you make mistakes that would cause this kind of pile on.

Folks, the mods here work for free. We receive no compensation whatsoever. We do this out of our love for the hobby, and a desire to have a great plkace to discuss knives. I admit that I made a mistake, and have taken steps to correct it. I did not deserve this pile on, and like I said, a PM or email asking for clarification would have taken care of this in short order.

I'd call it direct as well.:) But not insulting. Calling it "bullshit" could certainly be construed as rude but, if that is the complete PM at least, I would hardly call it extremely disrespectful. Internet forums being what they are, I try and remove all emotionally charged words from my replies. Its way too easy to have one misunderstanding lead to another until it just snowballs out of control like it is now.

I mean, you may be entirely correct and the infraction issued in error but, lets be honest, who among us would open our ears to any complaint, even a valid one, once told that our decision was "bullshit"?

I told one of the mods this in private conversation so I might as well state it publicly as well. I think that everyone involved in this, moderators and VTW included, could have handled this in a better fashion. In a way, this crazy little issue reflects badly on all of us as a forum and on all of us as a knife enthusiast community.
