Cold Steel= flat out liars

next thing you know, they'll be chopping concrete blocks with knives that have evil sounding names like hell razor. gives all knife users a bad image, tbqh.

OOh, I believe Busse does sell a tasty looking knife called "Hell Razor" :) Which I would purchase in a heartbeat if I had a spare $500 in my pocket (although the Battle Mistress probably gets the first dibs on any spare $$ lying around).

well, I don't think there's anything wrong with a 'combat' company selling 'battle' 'attack' 'outlaw' etc. knives. I don't think there's anything wrong with a SD folder named after a FMA style & designed for quick opening and ripping cuts. I also don't think there's anything particularly harmful about the ultimate hunter, voyager, srk, trailmaster, roach belly, etc.

I don't understand all the drama in this conversation. I know CS advertising can be a little over the top but I don't see the point in thrashing Lynn Thompson. I do not know him and I am sure most of you do not either so we really can't judge him. As a consumer I usually comparison shop and then choose the product that I find more desirable based on cost and quality. I guess the following are important. Do the knives perform or not? How do the CS knives compare to other similar knives of other companies? Are CS knives a good value?

+1. most of my CS knives were purchased before I ever saw the video. The video's are entertaining (followed by periods of boring). I also think there should be an "Sharp Things in Action" channel. :D

that might just make me a bit insane.

yeah but you know about 90% of the forum would tune in every week anyway, lol...;) I LOVE knives, I love them so much when I am not suing them I like to read about them, or clean them, sharpen them...anythgin about knives interest me...videos included, even if they are "over the top"

I think there are 3 types of threads that will never die on these forums...

1) cold steel/lynn thompson bashing...
2) is a sebenza worth it, lol...
3) and the ever loving strider saga...

Those three topics have been and will continue to be the most talked about thgins in my opinion...

That makes no sense. If you sit on a jury can you say you can't make a decision because you don't know the accused personally?

If you don't have a problem doing business with a company that lies, uses greasy advertising techniques and exists on mostly hype to sell their products then that's ok. Don't tell me I can't make my own judgement about the company and it's owner because I don't know him personally though. I used to buy cold steel products years ago. The more I learned about knives and the knife industry the clearer it became to me what cold steel is like. Wether some of their knives are decent or not is irrelevant to me. I recognize not all people have the same values and opinions as I do though. Joe

3Guardsmen-

Why do you feel it is your personal duty to defend Spyderco's honor, tooth and nail, when any insignificant little criticism pops up on BF?

First off, I stand up for what I believe in. Do you? Secondly, it was not an "insignificant little criticism," it was an inaccurate comparison between what I personally feel is the best company in the business and what I personally feel is one of the worst companies in the business.

Nobody cares. Seriously.

People obviously do care, otherwise nobody in this thread would have posted similarly to me.

These forums are about knives. I am passionate about knives. Are you?

Regards,

Lynn along with his co. and advertising methodology give all of us serious knife folk a bad name and fule the liberal fires burning in an effort to ultimitely restrict knife ownership!

So why it it bad that CS makes anything in Japan, or China, South Africa?
whaat?! What do they make in SA?

You mean those sjamboks? I didn't know they were made here. Those plastic sjamboks, that are made here, are apparently made from refuse bags.

Real sjamboks are made of leather.

You mean we successfully compete with China?! That's interesting - sort of. I suppose CS can make enough profit on them without having to resort to getting them made at a lower cost in China. Well I never.

Intersting discusion going on here.

It's hard to compare a company that only sells quality products and promotes them in a tastefull manner with a company that sells a whole lotta crap and some quality products, and promotes them as if a carnival had come to town. So let's just focus on how screwed up Cold Steel is. They are constantly marketing weapons and instruments that produce images we don't need( the sharkie comes to mind) most of their knives are too poor of a quality to be considered for the use they are advertised for. So they do make some descent knives once in a while. I think that the damage done to the image of the knife community is grounds enough not to buy from them. We need quality knives marketed in a manner that does not provide ammo for the liberals.

Im with you one hundred percent of the Way. Hes a menace to the knife community.

And the guy who earlier stated that people care more about their knives than morals is also dead on.

I dont consider myself a moral person, but you have to draw a line.

The AUS-8A Bush Ranger is my favorite bowie knife.

Cold Steel markets average knives.:thumbdn:

Cold Steel knives are fairly priced.

My old AUS-8A, 4" bladed Voyager cut thru 1" manilla rope only 32 times.:thumbdn:

Cold Steel is a pro knife/gun company.

Cold Steel's warranty is not as good as Emerson, Benchmade, Spyderco, etc.:thumbdn:

Lynn Thompson is over weight.
My favorite knives are old school Benchmades.

The machetes and some of the cheaper knives are made under contract by Lasher of South Africa.

Well, this isn't really a surprise to me, but it just pisses me off. I was looking around at cold steel's site and I saw their "kukri", so I decided to have a look. I copied and pasted this with no alterations.-----The Gurkha Kukri’s VG-1 San Mai III¨ blade will out-chop any factory or handmade knives; including swords twice its size, even expensive, hand forged Japanese Katanas. It’s the heaviest Kukri on the market.See anything wrong? Ummmm... How about everything?!?!
I don't know, when you get ahold of that Gurkha Kukri,
you're gonna think you've gotta hold of a buzz saw!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a cutting dynamo!!!!!!!! It will outchop, outcut,
outperform...any knife half it's size or
your money back!!! **

**An 85 percent restocking fee may apply. Gurantee
might not be valid in your state. Knife must be returned
as packaged. Please allow 6-8 years for your refund
to arrive.

I guess the following are important. Do the knives perform or not? How do the CS knives compare to other similar knives of other companies? Are CS knives a good value?

I think that most of the knives CS sells are worth the price. Their Recon 1 folders are very strong/sturdy knives. I think their Hawks are great value for the dollar. Their knives using carbon steel are also good value (like the Recon Scout, Trailmaster Bowie, Gurhka Kukri are all strong useful knives worth the price (if you shop around)) they are all in the 80-90 dollar range and will give you lots of heavy use. When you start getting into the into the SanMai steel (layered stainless), prices take a dramatic jump.

Personally I have one of CS's SanMai trailmaster bowies. I think the cheapest I see them is in the 260 is range (I got mine new for $150 6 years ago at Sportsman's Warehouse. It has definitely given me my money's worth for the price I paid.

The newer CS knifes with SanMai, or the Japanese tanto's are expensive enough that you are approaching or in the Busse range prices (which most user's will tell you are much better........I would also rather have one, just based on feedback here and looks). So it depends on what model you are asking about. You will find that many people who bash CS on this site will still admit to liking CS knives that hey own, or have used.

Its too subjective. Heaviest on the market. Heaviest in terms of what? Heavy in terms of weight, heavy duty, etc

Cars do the same, most power in its class. Meaning? Most horsepower? Most torq?

It may not be very truthful but its a common advertising ploy.
