Cold Steel= flat out liars

My main problem is they blatantly rip off other peoples designs. The Canadian Belt Knife is just a Grohmann clone and they also rippled off the Okapi knives from South Africa. Some of their knives seem pretty cool, but I would rather buy from a company that designs and makes their own products, not one that rips off other peoples ideas and farms out their knives to be made by other companies.

I don't have alot to add on cold steel, they do go a little overboard with the advertising imo.But I do own a few of there products,a couple throwers a prolite and cheap kukri, and I am happy with them. The prolite is alot of knife for the money (I think) 440a or not, takes a wicked edge and holds it well enough.

I own two laminated stainless knives:

A CS Master Tanto in San Mai III

and

A Fallkniven Njord.

Both are nice strong designs and well-made. I often carry the CS Master Tanto as a self defense knife while the Fallkniven Njord is one of my very favorite knives for hunting and carrying in the woods for general uses.

The CS Master Tanto takes & holds a fiercely sharp edge.

...but the Fallkniven Njord's edge is noticeably keener and longer lasting. I've had that thing so sharp before that I was a little leery of handling it.

Their first tanto's were nice.Well made too.I think a lot of the production shops do their fair share at copying. How many Randall clones are out there?"

I have a bushman and love it for general use and play in the woods. you just can't beat its quality for 30 bucks.

sorry but this thread already has 596 views, which is more than threads with twice as many replies. That tells you that you are not the only one to fall for it. If it says Cold Steel, you have to go in it. :D

Two of my oldest knives are CS knives a Recon Tanto and a Mini Light Khukri. They are both Carbon V and have performed well. Both knives have been beat on pretty well for years.

Once CS built up their brand and gained popularity with lots of marketing they became a household name. I think even though they started out making high quality products recent events have led to a decrease in quality on some products. A lot of this has to do with the loss of Camillus. Just remember that Cold Steel isn't a company that is involved with every aspect of making their knives. They design knives that are outsourced to other companies and made all over the world.

Cold steel has some good solid designs. The also have some very gimmicky "mall ninja" junk. What turned me off of their stuff was one of their catalogs probably 10 years ago that had a big spread in the middle with pictures of Lyn Thompson and all of the big game animals he had taken with his revolver (A Ruger maybe? Can't remember. . . ) Anyhow, I don't have a problem with hunting, but I really don't see any use in killing lions or elephants or cheetahs, unless the animal is causing trouble somehow, and I don't think that was the case in this instance.

So anyhow, I still think they make some decent products, and they had some really awesome stuff when Camillus was making their Carbon V line, but I just don't care for the "mall ninja" stuff or the owner's endorsement of big game hunting.

Oh goody --we just WUV Cold Steel threads here in Blade Discussion. We can't get enough of them!

Anger leads to the Dark side you know.

Release your anger! "You cannot imagine the power of the Dark Side!"

"No never! If I allow myself to be seduced by the Dark Side, forever will it control my destiny!" and I really want another COLD STEEL light sabre!:D:D:D

I haven't read all the posts. I really don't care.

Want a cheap knife that is better in every way than a Cold Steel and easier to sharpen to a Razor edge?

BUY A MORA!!!

OMG stop the Cold Steel madness, I think that anyone that starts a Cold Steel thread from now on, that they should be banned for a month.
