Cold Steel= flat out liars

Since Cold Steel isn't here to defend themselves, I say we should stop bashing them. Unless somebody invites Lynn himself on these forums, which would be awesome.

Yes, Thompson is the heavyset guy (real heavyset) who flashes and slashes the slabs of meat, all the time looking as if the terrorists are after him. Generally you won't see him doing pull ups on extended knives or going hand to hand on the overhead bars. Man, if a Voyager would take that kind of weight, I'd buy a dozen!

Cold Steel could have someone come here and post a reply, even Lynn Thompson. They don't need a forum here to do that. Their choice.

Invite him yourself.

First off, let me say I am sorry if I offended anyone for calling them names last night and deserve any names or comments that was directed to me at that time. It was justified.

Now I will admit that the one thing I wish Cold Steel would do is use more micarta or G-10 instead of softer rubber on their big fixed blades. I guess that would be my opinion though, and we all know about opinions.

When I see someone trashing or insulting a company like Cold Steel it really ticks me off because for alot of us they are our Busse's or other custom makers knives. It almost was like the rich kids bragging about them having the real thing and us poor people have to settle for Cold Steel. I have had to put up with alot of that attitude as a child because my family was very poor when I was a child and I just can't stand it anymore.

Have a nice day.:)

its all good. thanks for the explanations.

Btw not everyone who owns a reeve or busse is rich. id be willing to bet i make alot less than 90% of the people on this forum. probably less than u, espeacially considering the hours i work. please dont make snap judgements about peoples soacial status.

Holy crap! I can't believe that this post made it to 34 pages. I am so impressed. Now I know why the members with high post counts keep saying "oh, no, not another CS is Crap........No it isn't........Yes it is.......no it is not........I think this........I think the opposite......you are a jerk............well you are a wennie................

Do these CS posts always go so long??????

i think the only one that has gone longer is the "why do you guys keep posting" to post made by cougarallen i think

More shilling from the cold Steel shill. . .

Which brings me to a question for DngrRuss1.
To answer your question-and I have answered this on other threads- I do not work for the company. I am not a CS Shill. I have friends who work for the comapny and am very framiliar with CS and its practices. The company and staff do not know about my defenses of them in this forum. This is is something I have chosen to do on my own.

DngrRuss1,
Have you personally appeared in any of the Cold Steel "Proof" series videos? If the answer is "yes," do you not consider that "working" for the comapny?

I will explain the reason for my questions. I found this thread: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3307131#post3307131 , and then this post: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3309145&postcount=31 , and, well, "Google" did the rest.

I know that CS make bold, controversial statements and actions. They also don't make statements they can't back-up.

I guess the weight question of the khurki was just a mistake.

But I am getting some information that I am verifying (to the best of my ability) that might shed some light on some of these other manufacturers that is not very positive.

It will be 2 years soon and you still haven't come up with anything. So would the be hype on your part or just hot air?

Wait, but you edited out the part where DngrRuss1 appears to have his own page on Cold Steel's site!

Yeah, I figured whomever really wants to see the end result will be able to find it on their own. Heck, you can just put "DngrRuss1" in a Google search and click on the 3rd link if you want to make it easy. Then Google the name you get........

I don't have any CS knives, but had a booth next to them at SHOT one year and it was a pretty funny show. The constantly running video loops were really a joke, but I think they take it seriously. Really is hard to tell if they actually buy into the "hunter-killer, violence, disembowel your opponent" ethic.

I only look at the knives he makes. Some are absolute crap, some are good, some are great. Lots of companies out there like that. Lynn is a sort of infamous celebrity in this community, so his name is out there more.

God bless the guy and his company, I got no beef with him. You have to admit he is a little nuts though :D.

so what kinds of knives u think he makes are good and which ones not?

i only got that thrower and are looking to buy more of similar kind, anything else they got u know is good?

Say what you want about Thompson I won't care but forgetting him and looking at the knives, particularly their better ones regarding the lockup of their lockbacks for the Voyager, Vaquero and especially the Ultimate Hunter I don't see how anyone that knows knives can downplay the fact that they are well made super duty folders capable of taking a lot of stress.

Here is an Ultimate Hunter I just bought from NewGraham.com for $62 plus shipping in this link below. You may not be able to see this as clearly as I'd like or if you were here in person to check it out but I assure you this lock contact, thickness and depth is greater than the Spyderco Manix knives I've had here to examine and overall its a better fitting deeper seating lockup and meatier lock altogether than the Mini Manix by Spyderco that I have of my own as well as many other knives I've looked at over the years. No matter how you slice the pie this is a great lock from whoever makes this knife for them in Japan folks!

Thompson may be all those things repeated here and more but the man demands a fine lock and puts some very nice ones in the hands of end line users because of his high demands. Put them down if you like but this lock can take it and that has to be worth something. I have not seen the insides of the Black Sable but if it is anything like this Ultimate Hunter lock whoever carries one has little to worry about. I'm sure its as close to being strong enough for a grown man to stand on and use as a leg up as any on the market. I am not saying I'd try it but just that it is a very strong lock and spring in this UH folder pictured in this link and typical of the high tolerances in Japanese fine cutlery.

I love it when people say, "some of their knives are good, some are bad"

OF COURSE some end up being good, Lynn T. gets his knives from many, many multiple companies. Not all of them can be terrible. Even a blind squirrel finds a freaking nut every once in a while.

The real question is, do you want to risk buying from a hit and miss company?

Why buy from anyone then?? We are only human man. Every company, yes even the good ones can be guilty of letting a few bad apples out the door. Every maker too for that matter. It happens. It isn't unique to Cold Steel. I'd have to say, find a better argument.

I think we need to draw a distinction between the individuals and the knives. I think people know I'm not super fond of Mick Strider but by god his knives Rock and there is no denying the man is super talented on a grinder and a fine artisan! I can say the same for some others that I don't care for personally but admire knives built by them. Is that so hard to admit. I mean I'm not to impressed with LT anymore than the rest of you guys but come on. One or two common problems and we have another get down hour.

Then again when it comes to music I don't much care for Michael Jackson or George Michaels personally but I still occasionally turn up the volume if a certain tune or two of theirs plays on the radio and often times tap my foot to it. I just don't understand this mentality of not even appreciating the knife for what it is, its historical value, collector quality or anything else just because of who made it. I never understood it with James Parker when people did it and I don't now. There always has to be at least one someone in the industry that everyone loves to hate I guess.

LT IS the company, he wants it that way. He slathers himself all over their catalogue, promo DVD's and website. He is the face of the knives and the company.

Put that aside for a second, do I know him to be a bad guy? Not at all. I know he does good things for his local comunity and gives to multiple charities, honestly, he's most likely a great guy.

Do I know his company to blatently rip off other companies, misrepresent the materials used in those knives and exadgerate the abilities of those knives? yup.

Do I know that his silly, mall ninja promo videos of him trying to look as violent as possible while chopping up lunchmeat hurt the image of honest, law abiding knife owners/carriers? You know it.

Trying to draw a comparison between Cold Steel's quality consistency when they source knives from many companies and the consistant quality you get from other outfits who make their own knives, and look at everyone that goes out the door is just kinda silly.

I'd rather buy from a company like, say, spyderco and know the quality I can expect, not roll the dice.

Great post, shotgunner11! That pretty much sums my feelings on the matter.
