okay pocket bushman show me 3 that are better & cheaper....................

Original Pocket bushman was a total piece of crap as the spring broke fairly easily.
Pick any 3 Kershaw's for the same price and they will have better steel, and last longer without falling apart. I'd take a made in China Byrd over the pocket Bushman....or two for the same price as the bushman.

Sage, Terzuola, Cat, Chigago to name a few.

the cat and chicago were about $50, but are no longer made and they will probably never be made again.

the sage 1 retails for over $100.

the terzuola is a slipjoint, and also retails for over $100.

Try shopping around....deals out there to be had. I paid less then $100CAD for my sage and terzuola, I can't imagine those are better prices then the US.

Don't have much use for the over-the-top marketing videos. I want to like the mini-lawman (feels good in hand, and great lockup) only wish it came in satin finish.

this entire post is not directed at you, hitzy, but bear with me.

im not looking for any of them. just a quick ebay check gave me some ball park numbers. i already have a chicago, and could probably sell it for about double what i paid.

i agree that i would prefer these materials over g10/aus8, but these knives dont compare in any other way to the ones being discussed. the cat and chicago are tiny.

if i were looking for something comparable to the recon, the closest i could get (in size) with a spyderco would be a military, which is also g10, but with better steel. it would also cost me about double the price of the cs. lets try and compare apples to apples.

im not saying cs products are better than the others. i am saying i believe they have some damn good products out there for very good prices.

there are aspects of the recon i was unimpressed with. the blade grind was uneven and the scales were like sandpaper. but for $60, i am more than willing to change these "flaws" myself to suit my needs and preferences.

i think lt's videos are silly, but they can be entertaining. i think its a good thing that he is a hunter. do we need to discuss the fact that hunters do far more for the environment and ecosystem than tree huggers?

i would like to see cs make knives with some of the newer steels, more titanium, and carbon fiber. but would i be willing to pay at least double for what those materials would make a knife cost? maybe.

but i am more than happy with what i got for what i paid.

if someone wants to call me a fan who doesn't know any better, they are an idiot. there are quite a few knowledgeable and respected members here who have and enjoy cold steel products.

ive been here a while, and i have owned knives from many, many makers. i also had nothing but disdain for cold steel for a long time.

ive changed my mind, at least regarding some of their products. they aren't all home runs, but im also willing to keep an open mind and trust that some of my friends here have valuable and informed opinions.

If your willing to invest in a little elbow grease, the teflon coating isn't all that hard to sand off... that's exactly what I did with my American Lawman. Started with a 220 grit, moved up to a soft sanding block (300-ish grit) and finished off with some 600 grit wet sandpaper.

Any thread on CS (as a company) is popcorn worthy.

My new CS Kudu is lighter, has a longer blade, and will out cut my Delica or Byrd Cara Cara.

Sorry If its offending but I personally think its realy worrying that people's morale is low enough that they dont care about the owner of the product if they like the product.
Would you also buy a knife made by a serial killer or rapist if he made a awesome knife?

I despise Cold Steel becourse of alot of the stuff that is already said, especially their videos, they destructible things to their products and then tell you that you arent allowed to do the same as it will void the warranty, are they just destroying the knives for fun? It seems so course even if they can stand it, they obiviously cant since you arent allowed to do the same with them. I dont got a source for it but I've also heard that the scenes where the knife might break (stabbing through car doors, bending it, stabbing steel barrels etc) they film them several times course some of the knifes actually breaks and they use the shots where they are lucky that they dont, but who cares? They wont warrant it anyway if yours break by doing the same stuff.

I also think Lynn's lack of respect for animals is completely disgusting, in a world where food is getting harder to come by he chops up pigs with his machetes for the fun of it.
I would be much more inclined to buy a knife from a maker who send five pigs to someone who was starving than chopping them up with a knife.

I wont buy a product if I dont have respect for the company, same that I dont listen to White power music or Military nazi marches eventhough I like some of it.

This is outrageous now the president of CS is compared side by side with racists, nazis, serial killers, and rapists.

His atrocious crimes include destroying his own knives to prove and reveal their limits.

He is also guilty of slicing and stabbing hanging slabs and strips of pork meat with his cutlery products.

Your use of the word pig gives the false impression to people that he is chopping up live pigs for fun.

That whole assessment you gave is not true I wouldn't bother answering except for the fact you made it sound like Lynn Thompson is chopping up live pigs with machetes just for fun. That is just gossip and rumors on your part.

I forgot another one of his heinous crimes includes offending your fragile sensibilities with his marketing and advertisements.

CS makes some good stuff, at times very good stuff. Other things in their line are a little odd or trashy but I respect them for at least trying to push the normal lines with some of the things they bring to market.

Yeah, Lynn Thompson is a bit annoying and I wish he would stop pushing his stuff so hard.

I like their stuff, always look through the catalog when it comes and often buy more.

The complaint that Cold Steel is wasting meat that could be used to feed the hungry is completely invalid because I remember some of their videos that had a statement at the end saying that all the meat used was later donated to the local animal shelter. Not 100% sure, but I think that's what it was. I'll try to dig up one of those vids.

I hear ya, they are more dressy knives then hard use, I was just making a material comparison showing that other companies can have knives made in Taiwan with better fit/finish and better materals for around the same price. There is a significant mark up with CS products, no matter what the price range.
I guess the closest thing to the Lawman/Recon series is the Ka-Bar Mule. It's a big AUS8 lockback folder made in Taiwan, doesn't have G10 but does have steel liners, and comes with a belt pouch for <$50.
I do understand one persons product value can be different from another. I'm pretty fond of my Rajah III, it was $70 here.....certainly not a great deal, but I bought it for ME :)

The Spyderco Sage 2 retails around $141.11 on Your Corner Store

The Terzuola is $89.36

The American Lawman is $62.39
The Terzuola is a slipjoint with a 3" long blade that is 2.5mm thick. It's also close to $30 more expensive than the CS AL, with far superior materials used than the Lawman, which has a 3.5mm thick blade and the strongest lock in the industry.
In other words, they are indeed incomparable. ;)

Looking for similarities between Cold Steel and Spyderco's is silly. The latest generation of Tri-Ad lock knives from Cold Steel has no realistic competition, IF you are in the market for a knife like the AL, the AK47, the Spartan, the Espada or the Recon 1. Conversely, if you are in the market for a Spyderco, there is no Cold Steel knife that will come even close to offering the same qualities.
