Comparison: The Umnumzaan vs. The SnG vs. The XM-18

Oh well, I plan on getting an XM-18 anyway.
I already have an Umnumzaan, 2 Striders...and I don't care about the opinions of other people much at all. :)
Flame on, flame off, I don't care. I just like knives.

I don't give a darn about the controversy with Kershaw & Microtech. I'd own a Socom Elite in a heartbeat if I could afford one right now. They look so cool to me.

Wow...there's one controversy I'm not familiar with...let alone involved in. :o

I think peoples opinions and reviews are helpful. I love hinderers but i'd love them even more with out the secondary market prices. hard to really use a knife that cost twice the msrp. hey hinderer crew what about us little guys who have an average every day job to feed our family's and isn't it us the tax payers that pay salaries for l.e.o firefighter's ect, ect, My opinion is most these people buy them and resell them at a higher cost. how many of you crime fighters and firefighters actually use them everyday? rolex john is a great guy and even though he made his points they are only opinions and he shouldn't be threatened or banned for this. I today carry my hinderer as tomorrow and the rest of my life. best knife on the market and a very functional knife. the sharpest thing anyone can own is their mind!!!!!

I love this guy!!!! easy going great attitude and a very key player in knives today. rick, rob and crew. I can't say i'm patiently waiting for your xm's to hit the market at reasonable secondary prices but you and your knives are worth the wait:D
I'm hoping to get more XM-18's and XM-24's out in 2013...including a new production model! Hopefully that will help the supply/demand thing. In the past we have sold direct to some former military...but its really tough because like even our current policy some people abuse it to just flip the knives...so just like the lottery sales at shows..there is no easy answer...I know your saying yes there is...make more knives...and believe me we are! Its just that supply just cant keep up with demand...and for that I am very grateful to my customers! Thanks to all of you for your support!

what i do with my hinderers is my problem sir!!!!!! and with the cost of these who can blame me sir!!!! I have not flipped like you say sir. but like i said everyone is entitled to their own opinions. sometimes i buy a nib hinderer just to get the scale and replace it with one i dont like and sell it. but then again it's my hard earned money and mine to do with what i like best buying ,and selling and my new found love trading hinderers. take care. also

I carry one. I have also pulled it from my pocket on more than one occasion to extricate people trapped in their vehicles after collisions. Specifically, I have used it to deflate side row airbags, and to cut stuck seat belts. I believe that those are two of the many uses for which it was manufactured and for which it was made available directly to first responders.

I really like your story & your job. Makes me wish Hinderers had a carbide glass breaker. The glass breaker on the umnumzaan isn't carbide but in an emergency situation it would work. I'm sure you carry something separate just for breaking windows though.

My apologies to you and any I may have offended I wasn't trying to insinuate that you get hinderers at cost to just flip them. I know most of you use them any chance you can. I get heated when a guy like Rolex john gets crucified for a legit testimony on the best value for HIS pocket. I beat the trousers off my strider but I'm scared to scratch my XM18. I love hinderers just think they should be cheaper. That way I wouldn't have to buy them so much to flip as some of you say to bring my favorite knife in my pocket cheaper to me. Just my thoughts

Nothing against the XM's, but what makes them more suited for this application than any other knife? How about a Benchmade Triage with its hook for cutting seatbelts? Or the Hinderer design Gerber rescue knife? No risk of cutting the patient that way.

SnG then Reeve.
Strider and Reeve redesigned the folder and took it to a new level. You instantly own a classic with these two makers.
And Rick makes one fantastic folder to boot.

I used to carry a benchmade (purchased directly from benchmade as part of their direct to LEO program, I should add) and I liked the knife, until one time when I needed it, it didn't open. It was an auto, and I have learned not to rely on more technology than is necessary in a knife. So, to answer your question directly, there are other knives that would probably work as well (and the Benchmad Triage is a fine knife)
but I like the peace of mind that comes from having a piece of equipment that I am confident will work as intended every time. Also, should the XM not work, it is easy enough to service in the field, unlke my Benchmade, which I could not service.

First responders need to have equipment that they can rely on to work all the time, the well being of others may depend upon it.

Thanks.

In most motor vehicle accidents that I have seen, those that haved involved a side impact or a rollover (where someone is trapped and needs be extracted from the vehicle), the side windows have already been shattered in the crash. I also carry an asp, which if necessary would probably take care of breaking the side windows.

I am sure that some firefighters and paramedics here that have more experience with vehicle extractions can speak more directly to this issue.
