Concerns About Survive! Business and Misleading Lead Time Estimates

I kind of wish you wouldn't either. Actually contacting makers and manufacturers is a bad thing? Rewind that, think about it again. Is it better to just trash talk without bothering to talk to them? There are legitimate concerns with Survive!'s business practices. You have none.

Survive knives already know that they messed up big-time so what difference does it make reaching out to them over one incident concerning one particular customer? Doesn't make sense at all. I just wanted to throw my ran out there and let people know that this company even though they make a great knife doesn't know how to operate a business correctly. Me and several other people that are in the knife industry believe that they will not be in business much longer. People should be well aware of this and consider placing future orders or canceling their current orders.

Mistypes everywhere I'm not going back to edit it is too late... too early for this BS
Don't be a pansy, who is this mystery knife maker? Fess up! Someone had foretold the doom of Survive! Knives, oooh, scary. Speak up!

You should consider traipsing into the Survive!Knives subforum and shitting all over their name. We have a place for contacting legit concerns, you don't even belong there.

He's a member here if he wants to address this issue he can and will. I'm not his pimp.I don't have the power to speak his voice. Survive knives is definitely not his competition. there's no reason for him to just make crap up.

After reading all this. I'm very turned off as a consumer. I doubt I would ever buy from them. Ewww poor busines practices. As much as people liked the knives, I never knew of this.

If you only read this instead of how ecstatic S!K owners are, see ya. I hear Cold Steel makes the best knives anyways.

At this point it would be in survives best interest to clise their firum here
Too much counter productive whining

Rather than look at hearsay, let's just look at the facts, and what we actually know, and you can draw some conclusions if you wish.
Here is information right off of their website:

IN THE FINISHING STAGES:
(In the SURVIVE! Workshop: being finished, sharpened, built, and packed up)

GSO-4.7: Preorders and many Presale orders have been built and are shipping out in regular batches, as they are sharpened.
GSO-4.7 Cru Forge V: Existing orders are in their final steps before shipping.
GSO-2.7: SURVIVE! Starter orders from March have been shipped. Remaining preorders are being built and sharpened.
GSO-4.1: Blades are being finished and preorders will start shipping as soon as all materials have been completed.
GSO-7/7: Blades are at the SURVIVE! Workshop. Presale available now!
Factory 2nds and Ugly Betty knives will be made available as we come across them, while working on fulfilling existing preorders. These Monday orders are currently shipping in 15-30 business days.
***Please note: There is a lot going on in the SURVIVE! Workshop these days. We are doing our best to get through existing preorders, but it will take several weeks from when preorders for a particular model start shipping out, until they are all fulfilled.***

AT PETERS' HEAT TREATING:

AT PRODUCTION GRINDING:

BEING CUT:
GSO-3.5 will be starting water jet cutting in December.
STARTING PRODUCTION ASAP:
GSO-12: We have steel
GSO-6: We have steel
GSO-4.5 Bushcraft Knife: We have steel
GSO-10: We have steel
GSO-8: We have steel
GSO-5.1: Waiting on more steel
The Necker II: Waiting for steel
The SURVIVE! Necker: Waiting for steel
This page will be updated as new information is available. The last update was on 1 November, 2016.

I found it curious that nothing is being water jetted, ground or heat treated. I ask why? How long will the current work in process take to complete? Those operations, depending on the lot size they run, will take time, and they have to run large lots in order to get any economies of scale. Can we conclude that these vendors are requesting cash in advance? Also, when they say they have steel, is it in their shop, or on hold at a distributor? You really do not want to ship heavy raw material all around the country, which is not a value added operation. Also, uncut steel is an easy commodity to sell or restock.

I too wondered about the knives on the exchange that were reportedly seconds, but the seller could not find anything wrong with them, and we knife people can spot a flaw others cannot.

People are allowed to draw conclusions and even speculate if they want. These do make me wonder, however your conclusions may be different.

My heart goes out to all those folks who ordered the GSO 10 or 8.

They may not SURVIVE! long enough to receive their shipping notification, so the company will have to send the knives to their great grand children's addresses.

Wow, some serious allegations. But even if correct, it's third hand he said he said so gota take with a grain of salt. It could be some knife makers were just saying what others have said that they think SK won't survive.. so what? Conjecture from a knife maker is still just conjecture. Now the part about 2nd's conspiracy, that also may be third hand conjecture. So I would say take it for it what it's worth.

Please chill out, you were right to call out such an outrageous allegation, but now you sound like an angry surrogate randomly spam windmilling passers by.. Revolver already got warned from a BF mod in this thread for trolling. Please stop with the cuss rants and attacking others members. You made your point. Now can we please keep focused on the original theme of the thread?

Of course you won't name names. Because you don't have one. If you have a legitimate complaint to make, speak it clearly. Cite your sources. If not, please go outside and play a nice game of hide and go flounce yourself.

Bahahahhahaha — amazing. Love it :) I'm adding 'hide and go flounce yourself' to my lexicon.

But yeah, there's a line between complaint and libel, and there are some accusations there that really shouldn't be made publicly without some proof backing it up.

Misplaced logos on factory 2nds? Intentional. Needed more cash flow. Of course the only way to prove that is it the owners came on this forum and said yes we did this. That's an easy allegation to dodge and to tell you the truth it sounds absolutely ridiculous but it's true. I'm sure this thread is going to get locked down. There's a lot of disgruntled customers. we're not going to get anywhere with this. my recommendation to SK is to issue redunds for knife models arent in the final stage of being complete , shut the shop down, regroup, get a loan and tell everyone that when they open back up knives will be in stock and no more issues. That method would greatly help their business and make everyone happy.

Someone's been busy on Facebook today. I'm not the one who recieved the message, I'm just sharing what he posted.

I edited out the dude's real name, but he had been pretty vocal on the official S! Facebook page and a few weeks ago deleted all his angry posts. Now he's reaching out to fan group members. I wonder if he's friends with mark marion????

The FTL? People have shared complaints with the.... Faster Than Light drive? I think he means FTC.

Also, did the guy who was going on about bring the FTC into things actually go forward with that, or was he just rattling the sabre?

There are a lot of unsubstantiated accusations based on 3rd (or 4th or 7th hand info) cropping up here and on the S!K Fan Facebook page. Some of them sound feasible and could be true. I have suspected some of the scenarios that are now being voiced for a while. However, there is NOTHING to PROVE that they are accurate. At this point it is just libelous BS. With that in mind, I will not discuss them further until more information is provided.

Going back to my first post and subsequent follow up, there are two problems that I wanted to discuss: misleading lead times and the viability of S!Ks business model.

Unfortunately, S!K continues to lie about the availability of their knives. I will not rehash all the details of all the times S!K has knowingly advertised totally unrealistic lead times, or verbally / over e-mail made delivery commitments they were unable to keep. Every person / company misses deadlines occasionally. Doing it once or twice can be excused as accidental, being overly optimistic or even poor management. At this point, there is no reason that S!K can not accurately forecast their lead times. What they are doing is intentionally providing inaccurate information.

Guy and Ellie, I hope you read this: You are actively and knowingly providing false information to your customers and fans. You are lying. You are destroying what little credibility you have left. Please, stop it.

S!K lying to customers sucks. To me, inaccurate lead time are just the tip of the iceberg. It is more important to answer the question “why are they lying?” I believe that S!K is having a serious cashflow issue. There could be many reasons for this, but the most glaringly obvious is the extremely slow rate at which they are producing knives. Combine the excessive lead times with low margins, increasing OH (adding employees) and other unforeseen costs and you have a recipe for disaster.

I have not seen S!K financials and have no inside information. With that in mind, my assertion that S!K is having a cashflow crisis is to some degree conjecture. However, you cannot repeatedly miss your lead times by the amount S!K has without having cashflow issues. This is not magic. This is not a mystery. It is simple finance.

I will not bore everyone with details, but S!K needs to drastically change their operations to increase capacity and / or get more $s if they are going to “survive.” It appears that they are trying to get $s buy selling more knives (both seconds / ugly betty / pre-sale / whatever-sale AND new models) and pushing back production of knives that were sold in 2015 or earlier this year. They are not making substantial changes to their operations, and what they are doing is not a sustainable solution.

I am just a guy on the internet. I might well be a chubby, acne scarred, millennial that took a business class in HS and is currently unemployed and sitting in my mom’s basement using her iPad to access this forum while I am “recovering” from surfing porn sites. But forget about who I am. Let’s talk about S!K. If you disagree with what I say, show me where I am wrong. Explain how S!K’s current business model works and how S!K goes from where they are now to being a profitable going concern.

One more thing: silver, grog, revolver, chiral, standard and the other hardcore fans, I like you guys. I like my S!K knives. I like this forum. I am sad that it has become this negative. But I sincerely believe that S!K is running their business into the ground and lying to their customers. Considering that I was a public advocate for S!K in the past, and knowing what I know now, I will not quietly sit on the sidelines while S!K sells knives under false pretenses.

Hmmm... ever thought that survive knives is blocking people that troll post on their fan page and deleting comments? I recall some customers posting print screens of corresponding emails with SK. Pretty obvious we have some tremendous Fanboys of this company here and very disgruntled customers as well. We're not going to get anywhere with this they might as well just lock this thread all the way down and keep this in their archives for possible legal issues in the future
