Concerns re: ssbood (David)?

fetzer, make sure you are talking to the Roanoke County PD. Completely separate from Roanoke City PD.

Well put.

Although, I don't think there is really much else the Mods can do, aside from the banning of Paypal gifting.

Some suggestions include but not limited to
No selling without photos
Photos should include an identifier like a piece of paper with user name and date
Since selling gold member pay by credit cards, maybe in cases of fraud like this PD could get the card and billing info by agreement
No more than two knife at a time for sale until a certain level

Just some ideas. Maybe others have better ideas

SPX Trader- I like your style. You seem to understand and live by the creed that the only thing for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

If he logged on from his home computer, without using a proxy, an ip can always track back to your address. When an individual "looks up" an IP, it doesn't really tell you anything. All it does, it show the city where his internet provider is located. So it could be 50 miles from his house.

However, when coupled with law enforcement, they can call the ISP and they can positively tell the cops what address that IP came from. So yes, IP is a must if bladeforums wants charges pressed.

Just because his name is on the PP means nothing. I can go create a PayPal with his name right now, and have funds sent through. The PP account doesn't even have to match the bank account its transferring into. Also, you can get a PP debit card, and drain the account as soon as there is money in it, if you are scamming.

That is with a fake name and everything. If they did catch him, he could claim it wasn't him, and they couldn't prove it. IP will sink his boat if he used his own computer, at his own house, under his name.

I was in no way indicating illness gives any right here. I was just saying he was but that was a month or more ago. I haven't had any contact with him since then.

Dan you seem misinformed for quite some time PP now charges the fee itself to you if you use PP gift. It is no longer free.

Seems I got screwed too. I'm out $45 which isn't a lot compared to others. But lesson learned I won't use PP gift anymore.

I just got off the phone with PP, they do not charge the buyer or the seller when the gift option is used as long as it drawn on a bank account, if you use your credit card normal PP fee's apply. I myself will not accept any gift payments because there is no protection if you have a problem, PP forbids sellers trying to collect fee's for accepting regular PP It's way out of control on this forum, they other day in the exchange there was a seller trying to collect 6% for PP fee's, Come On.............
Gift payments should be banned totally, If you can't afford $3.00 fee on a $100.00 knife you shouldn't even be on this forum!!!!!!!!!!

Rick, I can't disagree with that. If you see shady stuff like that let me know (6% fees are beyond stupid). We may need some remedial math up in this piece. ;)

The current fee is 2.9% + $0.30 cents per transaction.

Personally I just pick a price and stick with it. If a buyer sends you a money order then you get all of it, but you have to wait for it to get to you. If they send it via PayPal you get it immediately, hence the relatively small fee. I hate it when sellers say 'net to me' and all that BS. It would be great if you just had to list a price and that's the price whether you use PayPal, money order, check, etc. If a seller doesn't want to incur the fees charged by PayPal then guess what? THEY SHOULDN'T BE USING IT!

I'm with you, when I see that "NET TO ME CRAP" I just keep walking on bye!

I've never understood why sellers can't just ADD the fees on to the listed price. Why write "$150 + 3% PP fees", when you could just put "$155" (I'm rounding up).

Going really off topic......I've personally like receiving Paypal goods....you can print label using Paypal shipping.

That's why after David Ssblood reply to me the last PM before he fell off the face of earth, he said he already shipped my blue para & Millie....I doubt it, if he did, paypal would have notify me, if he ever did printed a label.

I definitely learned my lesson on this one. Never again will I use the Gift option, well unless it's actually a gift.

I actually made a sale earlier today and passed up someone Gifting me the money. Needless to say, it wasn't a hard decision after the mistake I made with David/ssblood. Granted, I was the seller in this situation, but I think more people need to realize that the fees are there for a reason and Paypal isn't a service that should be abused so frivolously. Not to mention the fact that the fees are really inconsequential.

I'd also like to give a shout out to DapperDan. I know he kind of giving us Paypal "Gifters" a hard time before but it really hammered the message home and I reconsidered my thoughts on the subject.

That being said, are sellers allowed to outright request Paypal Gift payment?

Back on topic, I haven't heard too many updates here about any sort of investigation into David Doss, nor have I been contacted by the authorities whom I spoke with on Monday. I suppose at this point it's really just out of our hands. It'd be nice to know the authorities are pursuing whatever "leads" they have but I could certainly understand if this situation was somewhat out of their normal scope of law enforcement.

Yeah, I think we've given law enforcement as much useful info as we can. Access to all those involved, details on each transaction, the accused's mailing address...maybe there will be some info to share next week. Since ltn was the one who initiated the police investigation I imagine he might be the one following up with police to check on any progress.

As far as the PP gifting goes, I am a member at another non-knife specific forum and on their B/S/T board there are some bold font red color warnings on EVERY page. One of them says (summarized) that requesting or suggesting a potential buyer to pay via PP gift is in direct violation of PP terms as well as forum rules and anyone found guilty of doing so will be subject to specific consequences. More often than not the sales threads on this forum (BF) mention the word 'gift' in relation to Paypal. There's no reason why BF couldn't & shouldn't take this kind of stance with gifting. You're screwing Paypal and potentially yourself as well. Just not worth it.

Hey SSblood, I never liked you (you are on my ignore list) and obviously for good reason. You sir are a weasel & I can only hope you never contribute to the gene pool, chump.

Good luck everyone, feel for ya.

Anyone have their claims approved by PP yet? Seems like it should be a fairly quick process under the circumstances...

I could not agree more, very well stated................:thumbup::thumbup:

Not mine yet, but I just escalated it to a claim yesterday. I think it would be quick too but maybe they're doing some digging themselves - not sure how that all works behind the scenes.

Ok I was second on one of his knives . My suggestion when buying never pay until the person post sold to whoevere gets it . That's what I usually do on about 90% of my buys or trades . This way people know that the knife was sold . When I emailed blood I ask him if the knife wasn't sold to just post sold to miltmaldo and when I see that I will pay . I never saw that so I never paid him . He never emailed me back either . Man I feel for you guys . I would have paid gift to .

Maybe it's the cynic in me but I just don't get why people would send money to a stranger as a gift. Don't you gift givers know you have no recourse if things go south? All you generous people please send all your gifts too D.W. Jones1212 at Gmail.com
