Condor's 2011 catalog is up

rpn its almost a 40mb pdf file and your browser wants to download it before showing it. Yes it takes awhile probably better to save the file and view it locally.
I'm a machete whore so I'll probably get the Parang when my SpyderCo Ambitious comes in.

I'm picking up on what you're trying to describe. Not bad bad too! A "curve (blade) on curve (handle)" design so to speak.

Honestly though, it floats my boat just as it is. A design akin to a large bladed Filipino itak all-'round tool/weapon!

Oh, I like it as-is too! One of the high points on my long wish list right now. It's just something I'd like to see that handle used for in future, as it would lend itself well to the design.

So folks don't need to go searching for what I'm talking about, here's what the good ol' Collins Engineer's Bolo looks like:

I know Joe had mentioned that we might see a golok-like blade on that handle down the pipeline, so I'm hoping that's what he's talking about!

Not 100% sure, but I presume so. Should help prevent chipping problems with the ball pommel if they do. Again, I defer to Joezilla on that one. I only do what I can to stand proxy with what I know when he's not available for comment. :p
Zowies!! I didn't know Condor had an unofficial spokesman! :P

(note: pokin fun, Joezilla ain't "official" either. I just like cutting stuff, and thats my final comment) To help answer original question: The handle has been modified to full tang, to help with production. Each handle will have holes drilled out near the middle for weight to be the same as the 3/4th tang versions.

Has anyone else ever handled these before ? The prototypes were works of art, but the production versions kinda were crazy wide. Some how, during production, it got over engineered with too much technical stuff, and at some point it forgot to cut. They got too crazy with the curvature after about That being said, it still might be in the idea box.

Here's one with a bit less curve to it. They seemed to have been wildly inconsistent between versions with both the shape of the blade and the blade-to-handle measure of angle. :p

Not really widely inconsistent as there were a various number of types. That picture is one of the earlier models Cole III earlier, (type 1) before they started adding more curvature to the belly and some other variations.

I ordered a gen II Condor Golok a few days ago from MS. I love that ball handle. Will the gen III version still have the ball?

I meant it more along the lines of the style of the blade changing drastically across the different versions. As we both know, Collins themselves was pretty good with QC as a whole. Sorry if I was a little misleading. :o

Yeah yeah... :p Condor's just my favorite brand so I can't help but geek out over new developments. Poke fun all you want--I know I'm a bit of a goof over all of this stuff. :D:thumbup:

Any word on what models will be getting a handle adjustment for 2012? Or later this year?

Also, what is the status of the mini golok and parang? After playing with the Golok recently, I have become a big fan of it. A mini would be pretty sweet.

Ah, someone has been paying attention! Handle adjustments are starting now. The ball will stay of course, as per the Indonesian style. Smaller Goloks and Parang are still in development.

i have the new 2011 parang as a replacement for my original run parang. it is a MASSIVE improvement on the handle. i spun the bottom rivet and loosened the handle on the old one while chopping, no questions asked i got a new one. the handle is a nice reddish color, much smoother finish on it. the rivets look thicker and spaced farther apart. most importantly...FULL TANG!!! also the blade grind starts about a half inch above the handle, as opposed to the 1 1/2-2 inches or so of the first run and it has a more prominent distal taper.
they made a good machete into a great machete.
i like the looks of the speed bowie (good replacement for my kabar heavy bowie) and the thai enep machete. cant wait to see them for sale.

Hey guys, here are some pictures of the new woodworker axe. If it helps then it helps!

for comparison, two parangs inside one shovel hand and the taper. i filed the spun rivet down hammered at it a little, seems to be holding up ok, but i will not use it as a dedicated chopper until i re-handle it with some ironwood slabs and steel rivets. it still clicks when i swing so i don't want to take it too far. a small crack can turn into a catastrophic failure and a bad injury in no time. plus the gaps in the handle got wider at the bottom where the tang stops, so the others are probably bent a little internally too.

got it from Rick as a replacement when i first spun the bottom rivet and sent him a pic of the sweet little razor edge it made and cut the crap out of me with. wow, you really haven't seen it yet? man, you think that would have been at the shot show for sure. anyways, its is beautiful. i dont even wanna use it. im gonna try my hand at PVC sheathing once my GI Bill kicks in here shortly. im thinking just a paddle sheath with a paracord wrap at the top and maybe a few holes drilled in the sides to help lash it to my ruck.

no, the original clicks a little bit. the other day i pulled some nice little wood shavings out of the gap at the bottom of the tang. the replacement is fantastic. its so pretty and smooth, i dont really wanna use it yet. at least not until i get it some fitted pants. i can just baton with my heavy bowie and use my trail boss.
