This soup was wonderful! Thanks to Richard J for sending the Meadow mushrooms so I could create the best creamy mushroom soup I've ever tasted. My neighbors agree, the BEST!

I want some. I know that Richard sent enough mushrooms but did you make enough soup for me?

Mmmmmm, venison tacos look and sound good.

I got home for two hours on Monday. Karen saved me some of that creamy mushroom soup. OMG!!! It was the best soup that I have ever eaten.

More of the wonderful food.
We are stuffed! Everything so good.

Beautiful, Karen!

The window box idea is too cool! Your spread looks as good as I am sure it tasted!

I'll post up pictures of our spread - I used my Galley Wag to carve the birds and it worked beautifully.

*edit* - Pictures!

the fried turkey - 19 lbs, creole butter and cajun rub, fried in peanut oil

My daughter Steph gave the bird the thumbs up!

My son-in-law Colin smoked a turkey - it was delicious!

Galley Wag and a big, juicy, delicious slice of fried turkey breast...

My cooking setup - I set up the wind barrier as it was windy here today, and that keeps the temp more stable. Usually it is much colder than it was today, and that can really impact the cooking time on a fryer.

I am stuffed. Off to bed, and a day at the range tomorrow!

Andy & Maggie: You sure know how to do up Thanksgiving. Great family time, great food, I'll bet you were indeed stuffed! That rub on the fried turkey sounds interesting. Smoked turkey is sure a treat. Hopefully you left enough for some good leftovers! Thanks for your pics.

Great looking meals and Andy you have a great looking family.
I love seeing the Galley Wag being used. Love that Ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssnakewood.

How about posting your recipe for the venison tacos!

wellll... there really is no recipe. the hard part is getting the deer. i just used about a pound of ground venison with one of those store bought taco kits (old el paso maybe). melted some cheese on the top of the meet, and just add your favorite fixin's.

Slow Cooked Stout Stew
This was ultra easy! Loaded everything in the ol' crock pot, set it to low, worked for eight or nine hours, came home to a healthy, hearty, smelled-so-good beef stew!!

Place in crock pot: 8 small red potatoes, cut into 6ths, 3 ribs celery in 1/2inch dice, 1 onion, coarsely chopped, 6 sprigs parsley coarsely chopped, 3 bay leaves, 2 tablespoons Landlubber Mix (from Drift Creek Gourmet), 1 can drained carrots, 1 can drained corn, 1 pound (browned in a little oil in a skillet) beef stew meat, 1 1/2 cups Stout ale. Cook in slow cooker for 8-10 hours. Stir gently until ingredients are evenly distributed. If you want a thicker broth, add instant potato flakes. Note: this is a very low salt meal. I added smoked salt at the table since I prefer saltier foods.

Thanks for that recipe, Karen!

One of the local Irish pubs serves a guinness stout pot roast that is outstanding -

I'll give your recipe a try and report back!

I used to live out of my croc pot when I was a young bachelor - I still have a few croc pot tricks myself!

best
