"Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders says several tickets were issued at Trinity Bellwoods Park on Saturday after people were spotted defecating and urinating in the driveways and backyards of homes nearby."

Without laws being enforced and stiff penalties given to lawbreakers, society will continue to decay. I have heard that San Francisco tolerates the homeless defecating on public sidewalks, and rather than enforce the law, they develop an app for your smartphone to track piles of shit on the sidewalk, so you can be more careful where you step. This is not civilized society!

Hmmm... fire trucks + bleach solution at high pressure...

I'm marking time from memorial day weekend. That's seemingly when large crowds of people finally threw in the towel and said f' it, and gathered in large, carefree groups.

We'll see what we see toward the end of this week is my bet.

I think that there are too many variables as the science tries to catch up to the Virus, to determine and establish as facts as to whether this incubation / manifestation period (2 weeks?) will be a reliable benchmark for such assessments. Even if we believe in Dr. Tony Fauci who is by and large a very highly regarded expert in such matters, we can go back to just this past February till now and find Dr. Fauci to have equivocated himself several times on several media channels. For most parts, as a rational person who does not subscribe to most conspiratorial BS which seems to be the currency de jour, I attribute those to what I started my opinion with, i.e, the science is lagging the virus.

I would like to exclude two of the most prevalent extreme opinions, one being, "this COVID-19 is one pure BS, conjured up by so and so to defeat and to succumb so and so" and the other being "the sky is falling and we're all gonna die" mindset. There are even more ridiculous rumors and conspiracies out there but I would not insult the rational mind and the logical person with those totally bonkers type of horse-shytes!

I read that out of the 100K+ Americans who have lost their lives to date due to COVID-19 (basically those who died of severe and acute respiratory related issues followed by testing +ve for the Virus at the hospitals) something like 45% were over 65 (loosely defined as senior citizens) with a great majority being residents of nursing home facilities, i.e, much older than 65. Another study has put a vast majority of those who died of COVID-19 as those who were already suffering from auto-immunity compromises. Then there is this issue of the viral load and some others which I don't seem to be able to rattle off the top of my head as I write this post!

We are social beings and we (well not me but you get the idea) simply can not sit at home being almost unproductive and useless while waiting for the Virus to work its way toward becoming an endemic. Our societal structure will be at great risk and our livelihoods at greater perils. However, the burden of personal liabilities and responsibilities (mitigation and suppression in lieu of any effective therapeutics / vaccines) is upon every single individual to observe and to follow because one thing is for sure: no one knows or will know for years to come the real malice of this Virus even in those who seem to be immune and/or asymptomatic to it.

I need to re-read your post when I have a bit more time and think it through, but just want to clarify I am NOT advocating for continued extreme lockdown. But neither am I advocating for a completely carefree, unmasked reentry. My wife is a teacher and just mulling over any sort of hybrid classroom this fall is almost crazy making and I cannot fathom an approach that does not completely fry our teachers. We need to get back out there. We need to be careful. And I'm not usre how.

I just think it could be an interesting data point here in another week, approximately 2 weeks after large, public, ambivalent gatherings. I hope not (desperately!) but we shall see. My sincere hope is that it will not be a big spike and we can begin to have some confidence in getting back to some semblance of normal....

Already seeing early signs of an uptick in some parts of the country.

It's still too early to tell, but there's no question that more people are exposing themselves to potential infection.

B bluemax_1 - really appreciate the neutral, data-centric contribution to this thread over the past several weeks. Question - "uptick" as in single digits? I saw one article characterize 6 new cases in Wuhan as "resurgence".

Casinostocks Casinostocks this comment rang through, "no one knows or will know for years to come the real malice of this Virus....." This, to me, is one of the real concerns. This nasty little bastard seems to have a pandora's box of weird symptoms and hidden problems. Yay.

Google "AZ Coronavirus graph"

Google the FL graph and note the shape of the curve. It 'was' in a decline.
