Country of origin

They're not trying to get into the industry. They're already here. And they're not going to go away.

LOL. Sorry but I think that's a really patriotic (if you're Chinese I guess) but very unrealistic statement. Chinese made knives have been in the US market for
some 20 years or so, entirely because of the low cost. We all know that China is losing that advantage and currency manipulation can only go
so far, until other countries step up to fill the role. This has happened with knives from all nationalities imported into the US and to think that somehow China is immune from this natural trend is pretty naïve.

Key criteria are purpose, quality, features, price. Country of origin is not a factor unless everything else is equal. That has not happened so far.

Stupid Chinese knife...can't even pose for a picture. ;)

Well if anyone who's strictly in it for the knives the way I am ever needed a compelling reason to buy high-quality Chinese-made knives right away before the currency manipulation comes to an end, you just made it for them. When it comes to buying high-grade knives, my only allegiance is to my wallet. And I'll take any advantage I can get. So thank you very much for the heads-up. :)

I try to avoid the made in China stuff it just doesn't interest me

Crappiest cars I ever owned, by a wide margin, were Fords and Chevys...

Since we're way off topic already, let's just talk about cars for now:)

The 3 Fords I've owned have been much more reliable than the Hyundai I still own. I put over 100,000 mile on an 02 Mustang and beat the hell out of that thing. I have about 35,000 miles on my Hyundai, and it's already showing me some issues. I have a new F150 and time will tell its reliability. All I know, is that this truck can haul-ass when I click the "sport mode" button:)

How many of you guys are kind of particular about where your knives come from?
I prioritize workmanship, quality, and consistency ahead of any given country of origin. Granted, certain countries--such as those known or renowned for knife-making--invite expectations and assumptions of a general level of higher quality than other countries; so for instance a country of origin such as Pakistan is a bit of a red flag while a country like Italy inspires greater confidence.

The only time I prioritize country of origin first is when the knife I seek is what I would (as an American) consider "exotic".

Having invested the time into reading this thread, I sleepily contributed to the digression. I apologize.

But on the subject of cars.... Everyone I know who drives F150s loves them. I have never owned one. I did buy a new Bronco II back in the day and Ford had forgotten to weld the floor. Result was water underfoot. Their solution was to use bathroom caulk on the weld line. I'm sure it was American caulk but none the less I sold it for a loss. Hyundai to Mustang not really a fair comparison but I defer to your overall opinion. My best car was an '08 Infiniti. Never had a single issue. I've had more "fun" cars but all had some issue at some point. Recently I moved into the city, sold my car, and happily walk everywhere. Now about shoes.... :p

Country of manufacture means nothing. What matters is the name on the knife. Most of the big companies manufacture some of their lines in China, Japan, Taiwan, or in all three. The quality control of the company is what matters, nothing else.

I like turtles!

So everybody see what happened? I waited a long, long time to play the Spark card. But when I did, things settled down in a hurry. After all, who wants to get in Jon's face about his decision to let Chinese manufacturers like Reate and Kizer set up subforums here? Not even Ken44 wants a piece of that.

Welcome to the global economy. :)

Why mention me ???
Not even sure what you're talking about  Not sure what a Spark card is.

Anyone that reads all of your post in this threads knows what happened, that's for sure. "Settled down"....glad you were able to keep the thread "settled down":D

And why would I care if Reate and Kizer has a sub here
I've always said it doesn't bother me in the least that people buy knives from China. Just because I don't do it doesn't mean I care if others do. Its none of my business where people buy their knives, and its no ones business where I buy mine.

Geez, take a break from this, man.

Haha! Water underfoot, that's hilarious. I almost bought an Infiniti G35 a while ago, but I heard they had an issue where water would get trapped in the AC ducts resulting in a "piss smell":D FWIW, the used one I test-drove was smelling a little funky, perhaps it was the salesmans bad breath.

Shoes you say? I wear my work boots almost everywhere; they're Carolinas and they're comfy as hell! The only other thing I'll stick my foot in is K-Swiss:)

I think the car argument is a pretty weak one anyways. Many toyotas that people think are japanese are made in the states and many of the "american" cars are made with mostly imported parts. I kinda think quality can be found anywhere in the world. You simply have to pay for it or eliminate the middle men that soak up profits. For me I used to really sweat country of origin. But I have seen too much increase in quality to ignore any product based solely on where it is made. And I would feel really ignorant if knives was the ONLY area I chose to take a stand as it really represents only a fraction of my overall spending. Kinda like if you are an animals rights activist whos only effort to save animals is a tweet chastising the death of cecil.

wanna talk cars? here you go!
