CPK and Whisky (or other vices), a pictorial

Can't really get behind the Seahawks😉, but the bottle is freekin' sweet!!! What book are you getting into?? 🙂
Well, I tend to alternate between tech-manuals, profound non-fiction, religious doctrine, sci-fi, and fantasy. That said, I’m reading the teeny bopper, romantic, far-fetched, third book of the Fourth Wing series by Rebecca Yarros…..Onyx Storm. (Tolkien ruined me many years ago.)

That’s one expensive bookmark! 😂

The scales kind of match the label:

Running a ECM Synchronika w/flow controll - was a major upgrade from the Brevelle I ran for ~12 years.
Oh nice! I’m running an old Gen1 Rancilio Sylvia I’ve had for almost 20 years, that I hot rodded with Watlow PID controller, oil-filled pressure gage, insulated boiler, and LED lighting. Bottomless portafilter since before it was a big thing, I modded my own because you couldn’t buy them anywhere.

I’d love to upgrade, but this thing pulls amazing shots, and I just can’t justify the money when it works so well.

Awesome! I see no reason to "upgrade" from your set up, you've got everything a new machine would have - cool you were able to mod yours :) I'm hoping this machine will be the last one I need.

I also see you're into barrel aged beans, what brand/spirit have those been aged in?

Yeah, I’ve made it into the machine I want, and it does a great job! Only place it lacks is for steaming milk, but when I do it, I’m generally only making a couple of drinks at a time with milk, so it’s not really an issue for me.

I’ve been home-roasting coffee for ~22 years now, so that’s my primary go-to for the beans I use. I almost exclusively get my green beans from Sweet Maria’s. I spent a buttload on a fancy roaster 2 years ago, and upgraded from my old air poppers. It was a bit more expensive than your espresso machine…. 😬

Iron Bean does a barrel-aged release once or twice a year called Raging Tiger that is pretty damn good. Quite different, barrel aged in various whiskey barrels (current release is Elijah Craig) with orange and cinnamon. Looks like they actually have a few bottles left right now, I might have to go grab 1 or 2!

We primarily brew in a Technivorm, only have time for the espresso machine on weekends unfortunately.

Nice, I've always thought about trying to roast my own beans, but just don't have the time for another hobby at the moment - I'm sure it's great to really dial in the exact roast you want. I'll have to give the Iron Beans a go, but I rarely have drip/pour-over coffee, it's always 2-triple shots with hot water (americano), and my wife only uses the machine to froth milk.

What roaster are you using? Is it gas fired or electric?

Thanks.
