SO. Basically, I was COMPLETELY content with the knives I was carrying, then I started reading this thread. You guys are bad for my wallet.

.... Chestnut CV Peanut inbound. Should have it in a couple of days, and I can't wait!

Be advised, resistance is futile.

Im sure this has been covered already, but I would love some recomended brands to check out for my first peanut. Currently have a buck 110. Don't like anything on the belt for edc, and it is way too big in the pocket. This thread has got me convinced that I need a peanut ASAP.

Case is clearly the most popular, but was just wanting some input on what others would be worth checking out? Hopefully some that are easy to come by in Canada.

Thanks!

Consider a Rough Rider. Decent quality inexpensive knives.

With but little investment you can see if the peanut fits your hand and pocket,.

I would definitely second this!^^^^

Peanuts are not for everyone, and should be first tried out with something like a Rough Rider to see if it fits your hand, but more importantly, your life style and personality. But to try out a peanut you have to be commented to what we 'nuts call "The Experiment." You take a peanut, and top it alone in your pocket. No other knives are allowed for the week. You venture out into the world with the peanut as your only pocket knife. You go to work, our to dinner with the better half, whatever, for the whole week. When you go about your normal life with just the peanut in your pocket, and you need a sharp edge for something, you have to use the mighty 'nut.

NO CHEATING!:D

At the end of the week, most people are very surprised at how ell the little legume has handled their everyday cutting chores in the real world. By this time you are either going become a member of The Cult or not. If it fits your hand and it cut everything you needed to cut, then you have begun to learn the Lesson of the Legume.

Good luck.

Carl's initiation rites notwithstanding, a peanut-sized knife makes a great second knife to be carried in addition to something else. My minimum carry is an Alox SAK plus a Case Peanut.

No doubt a peanut would be enough knife for most of the tasks a fella would need a knife for. I remember as a kid seeing my dad use the tiny stockman he always carried that way all the time.

Yes, a SAK or small mulit tool make a fine companion for a legume. Over the past year, especially with this move to Texas, the Leatheman squirt or micra has been worth their weight in gold. Someitmes ya just need a screw driver or light pry tool. Then opening a cold brewski after the job is done is a good thing.

Why is this surprising? The rest of the world already does it. I've only carried/ owned one at a time for 50 years. All smaller.

I think it's all about hype and perception. Most people believe bigger is always better and don't really think about what they are doing. Knives, guns, cars, motorcycles. Most always bigger than really needed. Heck, I used to wonder at my dad's devotion to his little peanut and .22 Colt Woodsman until I finally grew up and thought for myself instead of believing what the gun magazines, and motorcycle magazines, and knife magazines were shoveling out.

I'll never forget how when I rode down the length of the Blue Ridge parkway on my Vespa 150, people would look at the maryland tag on it and ask how I got it down there. I think most of them refused to believe that I really rode it down instead of carrying it on the back of some Recreation vehicle. The speed limit on the parkway is 45 MPH and well within the range of the Vespa motor scooter. But the Harley guys just couldn't wrap their head around some guy doing the parkway on a motor scooter.

I was in a Home Depot one time to buy some heavy nylon rope for boat mooring. I had reeled off how much Ineeded, and the young guy working the department said he'd go get something to cut it with. I took out my peanut and he said 'that lithe thing isn't gonna cut that rope,' and the 'nut went through in one swipe. He was amazed. To him, it just looked too small.

It's all about perception and hype. To us, the Cult members, we're just believers. :D

Just woke up to a pleasant surprise today! My shipping lead time on my peanut was changed, and I should have it today! Woohoooo!

I have posted a couple of pictures of my nuts, but never the whole bag together. Six so far and I have my eye on a new one, that I might pull the trigger on today.

And here is a inspection of the old vs new. 1974 vs 2015. I have found many subtle differences, that only members of the cult would care about.

15 is wider. It might not look like much, but you sure can tell in your hand
74 has cutout on pen blade side of scales for finger, 15 does not
74 has pattern stamp on back side of main blade, 15 it's on the secondary

...
Half dozen very tasty Peanuts, hamsco!!:thumbup: Can you please provide a few details about each, e.g., maker, handle materials, blade steel, approximate age? The bottom four are all from Case, right? What about the top two with the squareish pivot bolsters? (I enjoyed your comparison of the two Cases.)
