The CV Chestnut bone 'Nut arrived, and there's good news, and slightly annoying news....
Good news; the walk and talk are perfect, blades perfectly centered, no edge flat-spotting from the clip blade slapping the backspring, like on my SS Redbone, and the chestnut bone has a depth and character that is incredible, just taking it out of the package it struck me how "warm" and organic the chestnut tint was, it gives it a slightly aged look.....
Annoying news? The clip blade has a couple minor scuffs on the left side of the blade, one under the nail nick, one near the tip, the blade finish is not completely mirror polished, at first, my "modern knife" mindset was annoyed that the blade was not "perfect" out of the box, the annoyance was rather fleeting (0.68 seconds....), after all, this is a user, not a shelf queen, it's going to get patina'd up and not shiny soon enough....
So, to give the blade some character, I made myself a snack of apple slices and cara cara orange slices, it's on its way to earning it's patina now
So, now my Peanut Family has grown to three knives, with more undoubtedly on the way...
2 Red bone TruSharps, one as a user, one still in the factory sealed Brooks and Dunn clam pack
1 Chestnut bone CV....
And finally, on to the next question.....
What to do with the B&D factory sealed package?
1; open it up, let the Peanut trapped inside run free, knives are meant to be USED, not looked at
2; keep it for a gift (my 9 year old niece could need a pocketknife, the 'nut would be perfect for her fishing tackle box, problem is, it's the same exact, identical knife as her brother's)
3; sell it to one of my co-workers
4; backups, two is one, one is none....
I'll have better pics of the Chestnut this weekend, some outdoor portraits...
