Cult of the peanut , members

We can add another member to the cult...

My niece has expressed a desire to get her own first pocketknife, she sees her brother using his, and as she's now 11, and shows proper maturity for her age, it was time for her first trip to the knife counter at KTP, she wanted her first SAK.

But first, I brought down my collection of Traditionals and moderns, and let her try them all out, she paid no attention to my box of Spydercos and went right to the Traditionals, the first knife to grab her attention? A red bone TruSharp case peanut....
She looked at all my Traditionals, but kept going back to that peanut, it called to her, it felt right in her hands, so, of course I had to give it to her, she spent the rest of the afternoon happily whittling big sticks into smaller sticks, and even challenged My nephew and I to a "de-barking a branch" contest, she wanted me to use my new KA-BAR USMC, and Logan to use his Camillus 499 AFSK, as those were the two newest knives...

She won the first challenge, because that devious little girl chose a punky wood stick for her stick ;)
The first competition, it was Sage in first, me in second, Logan in third

Logan gave her a little grief about "cheating" with the punky stick, and demanded a rematch, all three of us with Rock Maple sticks...
This time it was me, Sage, then Logan
So, the 2" main blade of the Peanut outperformed the larger fixed blades the first time, and performed admirably the second time

Sage suggested a third competition tonight, but with all three of us using our peanuts, Sage and Logan with their TruSharp redbones, me with my chestnut CV...

And I thought Logan and I were bad...

Sage just came back from KTP with a Wenger Evo Wood SAK, the one she wanted yesterday, and she's already planning her next knife...

I suggested a good sharpener first, as she already has two nice knives....

The girls aways go for the bright color ones! But she's welcome to the cult. She's just getting an early head start.:D

Daily carry and use has a nice natural patina developing.

After much personal debate research and advice I finally committed to purchase a mini trapper in antique bone with the ss warncliff blade as my perfect pocket knife. On paper it's absolutely perfect for me. So just as simple as that, I walked out of the store with a yeller cv peanut because it just felt right. Guess the mini trapper buy is gonna have to wait.

Congrats on your yellow Peanut and welcome to the Cult. I've had mine since April 10th and it's NOT been out of arm's reach since the moment it arrived in the mail. I've been very impressed with this little knife. It's a fantastic EDC and rides in the pocket unnoticed, but when needed it's up to 95% of tasks you could reasonably expect from a pocket knife.

Nuts are like Hobbits, small of stature and easily dismissed, however they are quite hearty and will often surprise you.

Most excellent analogy, Dan! There are many things in this world that punch above their weight class. Peanuts are like J frame snubbie revolvers, much smaller than the full size service revolver, but still punches the same size opening.

But when they aren't enough, then it's time for another tool!

I had another epiphany this afternoon while puttering around the farm doing farm stuff, like setting up the new chicken fence for my new flock of six (3 Buff Orpingtons, two Dark Brahmas, and an Aurcana), whittling a perching stick for the pullets (5 to 6 weeks old and feathered out) and having impromptu "chopping up sticks and old phone book" competitions with my nephew.

He's determined to find something his Ontario 499 AFSK can do better than my KaBar USMC, even though I keep telling him that they're both great tools...

Anyway, back on topic, I realized today that for general lazy afternoon farm tasks, all I needed was my Peanut and my KaBar USMC, and most of the stuff I did use a knife for, I used the 'nut, I really only used the USMC just for the sake of using it, I didn't even touch any of the other pocketknives I tote with the Peanut daily

A Peanut and a good fixed blade, it may be all I really need to get by

Now, imagine a peanut-sized fixed blade, what a perfect little pocket companion that'd be...
