Ted, it hits you like a ton of bricks when you realize you don't really need anything but a peanut for most everyday tasks.
The nut has been produced by several different companies, it's all good. I have two Case Damascus nuts and one Camillus made Remington, all three were gifts.
Jack Russell in a house full of big dogs always comes out on top.
I love the Jack Russell analogy, friend of mine had two they were tough dogs, one time one of his dogs got into a tangle with 40# raccoon on his farm, his wife called me up because he was out picking up something for the tractor so I get this panicked call with her telling the coon was killing the dog and to hurry, (his farm is a half a mile from my house)
I get there with my .22 mag rifle and the dog is wrestling with the coon in the pond on the farm, the coon kept pulling the dog under the water trying to drown the dog I guess. I kept waiting for a clean shot at the coon when they disappeared under the water again 'cept this time they didn't come up I'm looking and I can't see nothing but mud and murky water, my friends wife is freaking out telling at me you jump in and get the dog.
After what seemed like 10 minutes , (it was more like a minute but it sure seemed like a long time) at the other end of the pond I heard the unmistakable sound of something heavy and wet hit the ground I thought the raccoon, turns out it was the JRT with the dead coon in his mouth. He was exhausted, beat up but you could tell he was happy, he got and killed the big coon. A quick run to the Doggie ER a few stitches in a couple of spots the dog was quarantined till the third test came back from the lab, the dog was fine, the rabies test came back negative.
Now to the peanut story, same buddy's farm, I stopped by yesterday to see how he was doing and he was putting hay out for the goats and horses so I gave him a hand. He was using some no name brand copy of a Boker top lock and I had my little Queen Peanut.
He struggled with his barely sharp prybar and even though I had 3 other knives on me perfectly sharp enough and well suited to the task I chose the peanut and it worked great cutting the twine on the hay bails.my little knut cut through 14 bails of hay and was still more than sharp enough to cut some smoked venison kielbasa when we got back to the house.
We sat on his porch drinking some rum fresh made in his still the week before, homemade bread his wife baked that morning and the deer kielbasa with some fresh onions and peppers.
My buddy was impressed with the little knife that the next time I saw him I gave him a little Schrade Peanut that I had laying around my house. We'll see if he's a convert last I saw he was cutting open feed bags with it mumbling to himself and I paraphrase here, ...son of a gun this little sucker cuts like the dickins." (Cleaned up the language for the traditional forum)
I am finding out its an extremely capable knife, but by keeping it in my watch pocket or wrapped in a bandanna in my front pocket it makes it easy to find and I think that's key when you carry multiple knives. I had to be easier to find and more accessible than the other knives.
I may make Cult of Peanut member status yet
