Cult of the peanut , members

You know I was wondering about that when I saw it. I noticed the Appaloosa etch barely visible on the blade. That's bone I believe? Never heard of a Laminate on a Peanut, but I'm far from an expert on them. That's smooth bone I think. Good eye Stitch (and update your Peanut blog?! Congrats on the 2.5 yrs) :)

Thanks folks for all the compliments! When I first saw it I thought it was appaloosa as well but the gentleman swore it was laminate. I had never heard of laminate either. The stamp does read A6220. It feels like smooth bone to me. This would be awesome if it was real bone, and I am beginning to think it is from your comments.

Great to see you coming aboard T :)

I've been a Peanut fanatic for only about 4 or 5 months now since I won a giveaway by quattromori in early Feb of this year. That little "Travelling Peanut" got me hooked on them. That one has recently been passed along to continue on it's world travels, but it's that one that got the fires burning. I now have my yellow CV Peanut for the past couple months (it's not left my person since the day it arrived) and most recently now a gorgeous CV chestnut bone Peanut thanks to the incredible kindness of my good friend Jason "fot0" here on the forum.

I've found the Peanut to be a great companion and fully up to 90%+ of what I need a pocket knife for. I do always typically have a 3.5" GEC with my to compliment the Peanut. Between the two I've honestly never felt under-knifed in my daily routines as a retiree tinkering around the house.

Keep us posted and get us a close-up of that Peanut? :)

Carl will be along shortly I'm sure to bless your Peanut and entry into the Cult.

Carl, I sent you a message using the secret carrier pigeons...

Ooops.

I've missed some beautiful knives since I've been by. As for peanuts with light pulls, I've seen a few older ones out there. I picked up an older nut for my father, an older Case. He said the pull was excellent. If you want to impress the man with a knife, get one with sharp edges (if he says it's too sharp, he's impressed), and a light pull. I'll keep my eyes open for them, I haven't hit the Hanover PA junk malls in a couple months.

Ted, we need the High Muckba's blessing, but I think you make the cut.

:snowman: There now exists #PeanutCult and #CultOfThePeanut tags on Instagram for those of you on there. I hope y'all don't mind it.

My Peanut cut through a box yesterday like nothing and it wasn't at its sharpest. Must be the right chemistry in that Case CV steel.

Alright, first task where the peanut excelled and was much better suited than any other knife in my pocket. I was moving some scrap wood to the fire pit, now this stuff has been sitting outside getting weathered for 20 years so there were lots of splintered edges exposed and of course my gloves were back by the barn so I started tossing the wood into the trailer bare handed.

You know what's next, this little splinter the size of a pencil point about 3/4" got under the skin in palm of my hand, I grabbed my Sebenza and the point was actually bigger than I needed and would have left a bigger slice than necessary to remove the splinter but the peanut was perfect. The needle like point on the little clip blade was razor sharp and I was able make a scalpel like precision cut and catch the end of the splinter and pull it out without having to filet/butterfly the flesh to get it out.

Add to that they cut was so clean it was painless, if I had used the Sebenza like normal I'd have a wound instead of a little slice.

Peanut 1... Sebenza 0

I have to admit I've forgotten it was in my pocket the last couple of days till I emptied my pockets on the nightstand before going to bed. It's not so easy remembering I have it in my pocket, usually a knife that small is on my keys. I'll get the hang of this cult of the peanut, I know it's a capable knife I'm still programed with the "bigger is always better" mentality, I think the minimalist approach is gonna take a little while but I'm coming over to the knut side guys. I'm on my way, I'll keep y'all updated.

Such revelations and discoveries will become more and more frequent T, just keep it in your pocket and soon you'll be wondering what else do you really need 90%+ of the time? Some folks' occupations might demand a big burly pocket knife, but most can do just fine with a Peanut or like sized knife if they just give it a chance.

So many times, that is exactly what I found out about the mighty 'nut. The fine cutting jobs and point work. More often than not, I need a small but very sharp blade. Much over 2 inches, and it gets awkward for anything but skinning a brontosaurus. But splinters, plastic blister packages, mail, pepperoni, a carotid artery here and there, all within the peanut's capabilities. :D

Peanut, the little big knife!

Just got a new P'nut in the mail yesterday and another is on the way. My single one was getting lonely and needed company. I'll do a group pic when it gets here. Gotta love the P'nut. By the way does anyone make, or has made, a P'nut in ebony? African blackwood would be great.

I haven't ever seen or heard of one but I agree that an Ebony or African Blackwood would be great. Which three will you have? I have a yellow delrin CV and my amber bone damascus, carry them both regularly. The damascus was a gift from my wife and boys last year for Father's Day so I try to keep it nice, I carry it to church on Sunday and when I am wearing slacks teaching.

I think I have developed an addiction to appaloosa since I just got another one. The second is a 1981 Queen (not sure if Queens are an acceptable p'nut here) It is my first queen knife. Never mind here's a couple pics.

Flint that is an amazing Damascus. That is a great gift. Maybe when my kids get older I may get one :)

Hi there…new to this forum and thread. According to "Woodrow F Call", I need to post here to become a member of the Peanut Cult. I currently have two Case Peanuts…one black synthetic jigged in SS, the other a yellow CV. I also have an old Schrade single blade that's Peanut size.

Would love to post pics, but I haven't figured out how to do that with my not-so-smart phone. Thanks for the opportunity to join!

Welome aboard, glad to have you and congrats on the Peanuts :)

Ted, it hits you like a ton of bricks when you realize you don't really need anything but a peanut for most everyday tasks.

The nut has been produced by several different companies, it's all good. I have two Case Damascus nuts and one Camillus made Remington, all three were gifts.

Jack Russell in a house full of big dogs always comes out on top.

I love the Jack Russell analogy, friend of mine had two they were tough dogs, one time one of his dogs got into a tangle with 40# raccoon on his farm, his wife called me up because he was out picking up something for the tractor so I get this panicked call with her telling the coon was killing the dog and to hurry, (his farm is a half a mile from my house)

I get there with my .22 mag rifle and the dog is wrestling with the coon in the pond on the farm, the coon kept pulling the dog under the water trying to drown the dog I guess. I kept waiting for a clean shot at the coon when they disappeared under the water again 'cept this time they didn't come up I'm looking and I can't see nothing but mud and murky water, my friends wife is freaking out telling at me you jump in and get the dog.

After what seemed like 10 minutes , (it was more like a minute but it sure seemed like a long time) at the other end of the pond I heard the unmistakable sound of something heavy and wet hit the ground I thought the raccoon, turns out it was the JRT with the dead coon in his mouth. He was exhausted, beat up but you could tell he was happy, he got and killed the big coon. A quick run to the Doggie ER a few stitches in a couple of spots the dog was quarantined till the third test came back from the lab, the dog was fine, the rabies test came back negative.

Now to the peanut story, same buddy's farm, I stopped by yesterday to see how he was doing and he was putting hay out for the goats and horses so I gave him a hand. He was using some no name brand copy of a Boker top lock and I had my little Queen Peanut.

He struggled with his barely sharp prybar and even though I had 3 other knives on me perfectly sharp enough and well suited to the task I chose the peanut and it worked great cutting the twine on the hay bails.my little knut cut through 14 bails of hay and was still more than sharp enough to cut some smoked venison kielbasa when we got back to the house.

We sat on his porch drinking some rum fresh made in his still the week before, homemade bread his wife baked that morning and the deer kielbasa with some fresh onions and peppers.

My buddy was impressed with the little knife that the next time I saw him I gave him a little Schrade Peanut that I had laying around my house. We'll see if he's a convert last I saw he was cutting open feed bags with it mumbling to himself and I paraphrase here, “...son of a gun this little sucker cuts like the dickins." (Cleaned up the language for the traditional forum)

I am finding out its an extremely capable knife, but by keeping it in my watch pocket or wrapped in a bandanna in my front pocket it makes it easy to find and I think that's key when you carry multiple knives. I had to be easier to find and more accessible than the other knives. :)

I may make Cult of Peanut member status yet

Small terriers and peanuts are quite similar. Both are easy to under estimate, both are very capable of what they need to do.

Karen's sister Romelie, has a rat terrier. Looks like of like a skinny Jack Russel or a white Minpincher. Cally. Well, Cally doesn't take a back seat for any other dog or person if she doesn't feel like it. This past weekend in the mountains Cally put a large border collie in his place a few times. Bishop the border collie feels like the mountaintop that their property is on is his domain and no other dog is allowed. Until now. They got into it, and in just the brief time until we broke up the dog fight, Bishop was the one with blood on him, and Calli was like a white whirling dervish of teeth. For a little 15 to 20 pound dog, she had bishop in retreat, and he was the one who attacked Cally.

For the rest of the visit, Cally went where she wanted, and Bishop moved out of her way.

The little peanut is the same. I noticed when I put my peanut in the drawer, the other knives moved a little away from her!:D

Carl, former grand high muckba who's still hanging out with the cult.

edit to add: those who under estimate a peanut are very liable to have blood drawn as unexpectedly as Bishop the Border Collie had his drawn.
