I have decided to jump in to the waters and get my first peanut. Any advice, do's/don'ts when selecting one? Any advantage to a vintage one over a new one?

I think the purest form of the pattern is the Case 6220CV (in bone, 3220CV in delrin) . . . pick out the handle material you prefer and start there.
Any chance they might make an easy opening peanut one day?![]()
Hmm... I bet I could take a dremel and modify one. Time to keep an eye out for another cheap, used test subject peanut.
I own two Case peanuts, a Pocketworn red bone and a yellow Delrin, both in SS. I find the pen blades are always more difficult to open, and sometimes I need two or three tries to get them open. They're tighter than the clip blades, and my thumbnail often slips out of the shallow nail nicks. The clip blades are much easier.
For some reason, though, I don't feel like I bond with my peanuts. I prefer something a bit larger, like a medium stockman, etc. I'm only medium-sized, but I feel like really small slipjoint pocketknives like the 'nut, almost feel clumsy to handle. The SAK Classic is a little less so, due to its flatter/wider design. Oh, well, I tried to join the cult...

An EO Peanut would be a big thumbs up imo.
Looking at a peanut, now......
I'm thinking the EO notch would go on the pile side to access the pen blade. I've never had trouble opening the clip blade. Also, I think the shield would be in the way on that side. Come to think of it, what I'm picturing is really an exaggerated nail relief. I think of an easy opener as one in which the blade can be pinched open. Maybe I'd need to find a single blade peanut for this. What do you guys think?
