Cult of the peanut , members

I have decided to jump in to the waters and get my first peanut. Any advice, do's/don'ts when selecting one? Any advantage to a vintage one over a new one?

I think the purest form of the pattern is the Case 6220CV (in bone, 3220CV in delrin) . . . pick out the handle material you prefer and start there.

Another knut lesson learned, the knut is mightier than the thumb, I have a bad habit of brushing my thumb against the blade to determine degree of sharpness. Now with the thicker, beefier blades this is not a problem but the profile on the Queen Knut is very thin so when I brushed my finger like I've done a zillion times against the blade, it swiftly removed the top layer of skin.

It did such a nice job, I didn't notice till after I grabbed the mail and when I put it down I noticed a red thumbprint on the top envelope, that's when I felt the burn, I must have sliced the top layer of nerve endings right off and they were screaming.

Slowly becoming a member of the cult one slice at a time. ;)

It's time to officially pledge to the cult. I picked up this stag nut yesterday while I was supposed to be running errands...This makes my 5th nut, my most commonly carried pattern.

I used delrin CV Peanut to cut some bad spots off a few ears of sweet corn after shucking. Cooked them up for supper tonight, yum!

I own two Case peanuts, a Pocketworn red bone and a yellow Delrin, both in SS. I find the pen blades are always more difficult to open, and sometimes I need two or three tries to get them open. They're tighter than the clip blades, and my thumbnail often slips out of the shallow nail nicks. The clip blades are much easier.

For some reason, though, I don't feel like I bond with my peanuts. I prefer something a bit larger, like a medium stockman, etc. I'm only medium-sized, but I feel like really small slipjoint pocketknives like the 'nut, almost feel clumsy to handle. The SAK Classic is a little less so, due to its flatter/wider design. Oh, well, I tried to join the cult...

My 3 P'nuts. 1970's Appaloosas & a 1981 Queen. I need to find a Classic Yellow CV soon, but Im lovin the Appaloosa though.

I never get the pen blade to open on the first try and it's a tough one to open. I use it to clean my nails. The rest of the knife feels ok in my hand but the blades are so easy to sharpen and they cut like a scalpel when they are sharp.

An EO Peanut would be a big thumbs up imo.

Looking at a peanut, now......
I'm thinking the EO notch would go on the pile side to access the pen blade. I've never had trouble opening the clip blade. Also, I think the shield would be in the way on that side. Come to think of it, what I'm picturing is really an exaggerated nail relief. I think of an easy opener as one in which the blade can be pinched open. Maybe I'd need to find a single blade peanut for this. What do you guys think?

The biggest problem with the knife for me is the pen blade so I would put a little EO notch on that side if it's possible. I wouldn't mind a case peanut with a clip and instead of the pen there would be small sheepsfoot. It would also be alot easier to open the knife.

I have just started a Facebook group called the Cult of the Peanut. All peanut owners are welcome. Carl, you are the headman of the group, I will add you as an admin. You must have a peanut to join. Unlike Slipjoint Addict, no sales are allowed, this group is just for pics and musings on peanuts. I hope to see you there.

The Admins will be known as the Order of the Peanut. Imagine the Three Musketeers with peanuts instead of rapiers... ;).
