Captain I'm not sure what you mean regarding Damascus steel? As the carbon parts of the blade ( black ) have been etched in acid essentially forcing a patina so it's protected and the nickel (shiny parts) won't rust, there is also all SS Damascus knives so there would be no issues, but I've never understood the carbon steel blades rust problems people seem to have, never had a carbon steel blade rust being around salt water my whole life with no special treatment , and have worked in 100°F-120°F humid environments sweating through my jeans in summer soaking contents including knives also cold wet environments for prolonged periods, knife blades rusting never a issue in my experience.

Happy to hear she's bounced back :thumbup:they don't make them like they used to, excited to see what you did thanks

Pete

Pete:

I could be wrong. (I make mistakes on a daily basis, I think we all do). I have always been under the impression that true Damascus steels were more prone to rust than the more consistent alloys. I am always open to enlighenment.

Please feel free to further elucidate.

This really made me laugh. ...napolenonic complex - what a great term.

You guys are making it really hard to stick to the promise of "no more knives for a while". A peanut sure is tempting. May very well be my next purchase. In a couple of months maybe.

There are places online (with initials that rhyme with systolic and diastollc types of pressure) that you can obtain a Case Yellow Delrin CV Peanut for less than $30-something dollars.

Let the temptation commence!

Haha I've already checked the out. The problem is shipping to Sweden is about the same as the knife. European seller are twice the price to begin with. I'll have to visit the U.S. :) I can see no other solution.

You are more than welcome to the U.S. of A. (the land of God, guns, and great knives.) I believe that I can speak for my fellow countrymen, when I say, "come and visit us very soon".

Been stuck on this pair for a while recently. Weekends I give the peanut a rest but during the work week this is it.

I seem to use whichever one I grab first, unless I need a specific tool on the SAK.

I like that green bone.
Yeah, kinda grew on me after I got my first knife in that bone, a Slimline Trapper.

My other Peanuts. The first one (and one of my first three Case knives, bought at the same time):

Chestnut Bone CV:

Ocean Blue Bone - this was the "only one per member when you first sign up" Case Collector's Club version:

I have a Yellow Delrin CV somewhere but no pictures of it. If you were to ask me, I would say I prefer a larger knife than a Peanut. However, one of my other personalities seems to drop it into my pocket most mornings, and the one who likes to sharpen knives keeps it really sharp, and another of us uses it pretty often. But me, I don't much care for it. Too small.

Yeah, I've had days like that. Often!

:D

John,

How long have you had this "Jekyll and Hyde" complex!? The SS Case peanuts are okay... I guess... but I prefer the CV models because they don't need to be sharpened nearly as often, (with a 60-61 Rc hardness, you can't miss) and I coat them with polish/wax periodically to forestall any corrosion.

Works for me.

Captain O

Well, Jekyll prefers CV, but Hyde seems to like the SS. So I carry both steels as the mood strikes. The only Peanut I have out of the box at the moment is the green SS one in my pic, though. I picked it up back around Christmas along with some other Case knives because the price was right. It does the job for me just fine. I can put a good enough edge for my needs on Case Tru-Sharp about as easy as CV, though if I work at it I can get closer to a mirror edge on CV than SS.

Right now the top layer of my carry drawer seems to be about 70% SS, so I think Hyde gets out more often. :) In 2014 I carried mostly Case CV knives (not counting my always-present Vic Cadet), so just trying to even it out some.

Aww. Now I really have to.

In case you want a belly laugh, about 5 days ago I cut the palm of my right hand between my ring and pinky finger while closing my razor-sharp Yellow Delrin CV Case Peanut. Cupping your hand around your Peanut as you close it is a hazardous practice. (It was so embarrasing!) :o

Trust me, it was quite painful!

Captain O

I will have to locate that BP. Only one place here sells a peanut here. A blue one at close to 50 bucks. Cute Lil guy but WOW!

As a sign of solidarity with that unoriginal copycat cult:D, I'll be carrying my Peanut with the TJ for the next few, I figure someone has to be the bigger man:D, I need to process some trees I cut down and need to fell a few more, going to be smoking some ribs also so I'll use the TJ to strip the bark of my wood for smoking, and work a bit on my shooting range so it will get a good workout, but all kidding aside the TJ is a great knife, and for anyone that likes the Peanut but feels it's a tad too small seek out a 087, it's a really great knife, new ones are available in Tru-Sharp I I think only synthetic scales, but the 2nd hand market has new and used in bone and CV.
