Cult of the peanut , members

I think he was referring to a huge auction site that can't be named.

No auction at the site, just great knives at consistently decent prices.

Rick: Think of the English translation for the French word "lame'" and what children do outside when the weather is decent. This should give you a clue.

Yeah, I've had days like that. Often!

:D

I still stick to the notion that peanuts are like Jack Russell terriers. You can have the biggest of breeds, the Jack Russell is going to be the boss come hell or high water. Have you seen a Jack Russell cow a doberman into submission!

I've paid heed to the whole three is two, two is one and one is none notion for some time, now doing it with flashlights, but I think that I would be just fine with my peanut for most tasks. I do have a few other knives on me, sometimes all in the same pocket, but I root around for that peanut, to get the job done. It's also nice when the ladies ooh and ah over your knife ;)...

Get your children interested in knife collecting, they will never have enough money for drugs.

My humble entry. Case cv I just bought used for $15.

I also have a Chestnut Case CV Small Toothpick that I have been considering putting into my carry rotation.

Does anyone else either use or like that combination?

Hmmm, not exactly like that, but I do combine the little peanut with a keychain size SAK like the classic. Those two little guys takes care of a lot of my jobs.

I've never had much experience with a Jack Russell, but my sister in laws rat terrier is hell on wheels for a small dog. It looks like a streamlines Jck Russell, with pretty much the same personality. Teddy Roosevelt liked them and kept one around the White house. Very pugnacious little dog, and doesn't know it's a small dog. Sis in laws little girl Cally rules the roast over Wellington, a American fox hound, Tanner, a big yellow lab mix, and Dusty a neighbors large yellow mutt.

I used to go for the two is one and one is none thing, but maybe I've mellowed. I just like pocket knives, so if I carry more than one, it's more like when women wear more than one piece of jewelry. But I still carry just the one Fenix EO1. It's been such a reliable little best that has never let me down, I love it. That and my Vic classic that live on my keyring are some of my most used items.

Small knife, flashlight, and mini Bic lighter. Nevr leave home without them.

Jack Russells have no idea they are little dogs. I grew up with golden retrievers and labrador retrievers, and love big dogs, but I will not rule out a jack russell.

The whole one is none deal, I don't think they were talking about pocket knives, and I don't get deep enough in the woods for it to really matter. I personally think it's just OCD and I like knives.

When I go for a walk at night, I look like a walking carnival with all the illumination gear. Still, I'd be just fine with my Eagletac AA light, forget all the rechargeables and super duper headlight powered lamps. Also, I've been using that walking stick you gave me, and if anything gets past that, I'm toast already. The mountain lion and coyotes spotted on the trail cams up here will have to fight to eat this sammich!

"Sir, he's torn up pretty bad, but he got that mountain lion."
"What'd he use?"
"A small pen knife he called a peanut, sir"

I have a Buck toothpick. Imo it's a tad to small. Half an inch more would have been perfect for such a slender knife.

I stopped by an antique store near my house and noticed a basket full of old knives I'd never seen before. Half of the knives had lost their tags so they called the vendor and he said I could have my choice of non-case knives for $10. I picked these three. This is as-is, no clean-up. I'm especially partial to the little Calimus in brown derlin.

I'm even happier with them after the cleanup. The only real flaw is a lack of a satisfying snap on the clip blade on that one with the metal scales.

Sometimes a thorough cleaning and oiling will fix that.

Peanut report from the field.

So, we've been in Texas now since the night of the 12th of June, on the mission of returning Karen's youngest sister to her native Texas. It was a cross country moving job, a bit much for my little Toyota Tacoma, but we made it. So, for the past two weeks of settling youngest sister in law Romelie, there's been a lot of unpacking, breaking down of boxes, cutting of duct tape, and opening new boxes as Romelie gets settled in.

My two main knives have been my little Camillus made Remington UMC with 1095 blades, and my Vic classic. The classic has felt with all the phiilips screws that first disassembled stuff at one end, and then assembled it again in Texas. But all cutting chores have been done with the Camillus peanut.

I had also brought along my Northwoods stockman, but due to the hot Texas summer, I've been wearing very light nylon cargo shorts that the Northwoods felt like a brick in the pocket.

I love Romelie, and she's a great sis-in-law, but she was running out of boxes and wrapping, as she packed up, so she used a lot, (A LOT) of duct tape to wrap stuff together in bundles. Like maybe enough tape to make a couple of mummies out of. Yeah, it made it easy to handle, but unpacking was neigh impossible without a sharp knife knife. The Camillus made short work of all the tape. My better half, Karen, did all with a bright yellow Vic classic.

So, a couple of weeks of settling in and the two inch carbon steel blade did it. Sharpened up once on a coffee mug, and a drop of oil in the joints and it's going strong.

Glad to hear my friend.

A local knife shop owner said for me to give my single blade nut a thorough cleaning with dish detergent. It's gotten some effects of a rotund Maryland native affected by the elements... My two blade nut is going strong, but I think it wants it's buddy to come in out of the cold for a bit. I've been thinking of sending it in to the Case spa for a proper treatmetn, but don't it want it gone for too long.
