Just a quick update to what modifications I currently work on.
58 mm - brass/copper/Ti conversions
84 mm - no longer working on
91 mm - standard plastic models and Ti conversions
93 mm - hard anodized colored alox in multiple configurations.
The newest offering I have is Ti scales for the standard 91mm SAKs. To convert a SAK with Ti scales and alox liners as pictured below is $200 USD + cost of donor SAK if not provided. To mill a tweezer slot and fit a stainless tipped or brass tipped tweezer is an extra $25 for labor.
Here is an example I finished yesterday. This is a standard deluxe tinker with blue anodized Ti-6-4 scales, black alox liners and stainless steel tipped tweezer.
Wondering if Syph or anyone else has considered replacing the awl on a Pioneer with 58mm scissors. Just looking it seems like a close fit. Would this be doable?
Ive thought about that a few times but the pivot end is so small it would need some sort of adapter bushing other wise when close it would either just flop inside, or not be full closed with an accessible nail nick.
Hey Syph, ever consider selling some of your semi-mass produced parts in an online store? Thinking about scissor springs, liners, scales. Probably not a huge market but I'm sure some DIY modders would love these awesome parts.
Just sent you an email, but forgot one thing: have you ever considered doing something with the bit driver from the Cyber Tool? Also I second what steetyj said above, Sometimes I've thought about getting my old Deluxe Tinker some new scales in alox or even wood but I'd like to do the work myself as it would add more personal value to do it myself. I don't know of any place that sells custom scales for them.
I have done a couple of cybertools actually. This one has matte natural finish Ti scales, with brass handled tweezers.
I have sold some parts before like liners and some scales. I'd sell the Ti blanks for 91s, but they still take a pile of work to finish up by hand. Round edges etc. The backsprings I make arent finished until the knife is finished. I purposely make them oversize, so what I do is temporarily assemble the SAK, then grind that homemade spring flush, then finish all springs the same way so they look as stock as possible. That and the cost to produce them is the main reason I dont sell them as parts.
Sent you an email a couple ago on the possibility of a simple conversion. Also, may want to do something bigger, but not sure what yet. Drop me a note when you get a chance or let me know if you didn't get my email. Thanks.
