Cut with your knife?

EDC task: Opening Packages, boxes, letters, bags, food prep and cutting rope when securing items in my truck bed.

At work: I'm a 4th grade public school teacher. Therefore, I will not incriminate myself. Nice try ;-) But if I WAS to bring one hidden in the bottom of my pocket like my Zing or Skyline, it would handle various task while the kids were out of the room or after hours where scissors just don't cut the mustard. But that's heresay.

For play: Camping tool/companion, fishing companion, and general fondling purposes.

I would not define any of my use as "hard".

Best use I've ever found for a knife:

That's a pretty good use.:D

I use my knives everyday. I dont abuse them, but I use the hell out of them for everything I can find an excuse to cut. My main EDCs right now are a Spyderco Zulu for work and a ZT0350SW for all other times. I usually cut alot of plastic, cardboard, and various materials. I work in a store so anything that you can think of that can be cut there gets cut with my Zulu and everything else is with my ZT. I also have a Speed Bump but it was sent off for a modded clip, but should be back in a couple of days with a new knife for EDC... a Spyderco Endura 4. The Endura 4 will join the Zulu as a work knife and the Speed Bump will join the ZT as an anything, anytime, anywhere but work knife. :D

AND soon I will have my first custom made fixed blade to join the collection of USERS.

Really? If you have to qualify the post with "Try not to read into this"...then you should probably re-write the post. I don't think you're a bad guy; I've been pleased with your service and all of my Kershaw knives in the past, BUT, you definitely seem to wear your emotions on your sleeve with regard to the forum. How many times have we seen posts like this or the "I'm leaving the forum", "no more deadline quotes", etc. rants?

You have a lot of GREAT customers, don't let the 5% or whatever the % is make you come off as a cynic and turn your good customers away from the brand.

At what point did you think it was a good idea to try and derail this thread by making Thomas the topic of discussion? You don't have have to answer my question but instead take it as a warning against similar activity in the future.

Does anyone? Or is it just flipping, opening, closing, macro obsessing? Just curious.

Try not to read into this post. No attitude, don't run from the brand, no need to call the factory...

I do! And that's why I always liked Kershaw knives, they come with a good factory edge and good blade geometry. I don't actually own one at the moment though... :(

On a side note, I have a good buddy who is a non-knife person. He has two knives that he carries and uses, one is a Black Out and one is a Leek!

Hell, my grandfather would have smacked me for being ridiculous if I'd whined about things like that to him. In his day, you actually used tools, and they weren't defective unless they become unsafe broken.

I fixed it for you :)

And here I thought Kershaw knives were designed just for flipping and foddling!

Who knew you could actually cut something with them??

:p

Every damn day for the last 14 years. I try to find things to cut........... I ain't kidden either. :D

Less than I ought too. :( Though I should be grateful I am allowed to use my own knife at work and not one of the stupid company box cutter. (I will admit that the "stupid box cutter" blades are actually sharp but not tacticool.)

I could never buy something and not use it. That's just how I am, I guess. In fact, when I get a new "toy", I can't wait to use it every chance I get. If I don't, I feel like I wasted money and could of got something else that I could of used.

Everything that I can and something's I shouldn't, really even in the kitchen. I love my zt 550

I'm an electrician and EDC a Kershaw Zing to work. I use it to open boxes, cut plastic vapor barriers but don't use it as my wire stripping/cutting knife. One of the worst things I do to it is cutting up some carpe so I have something to kneel on when putting on plugs. You'd be amazed how tough some of these carpets are. I do a weekly mainteinence on the Zing and use the Sharpmaker for 3 minutes and it cuts like new! Love it!

Used my ZT0550 for the first time. I cut few paper yesterday when I got it, but didn't really use it. So, I open letters, break down cardboard boxes, open clam shell pack, cut figs... all before taking it apart to tune it to resolve vertical blade play. Now it doesn't have that little annoying issue any more, it will see more use tomorrow. My Skyline is still in my back pocket as a back up. My Skyline will be the main, and ZT0550 will be the back up once I'm back in office. People get nervous around Sharp objects...

Every knife I carry is used, some are slightly abused, but I take good care of all of them. I used arkansas stones some years back, but now it's mostly diamond and ceramics that keep my edges in shape, but I still use a leather strop for the final polish. I clean them with compressed air and different lubricants, depending on the internals and the type of scales. They need the care because I slice boxes, rubber hose, plastic wrap covers, tarps, canvas, all sorts of fabrics, even leather, and sometimes hard plastic and cables. I've also opened wooden crates and other misuse I've probably forgotten.

I generally carry several folders (mostly moderns but many times including a traditional in the mix), to handle different tasks, as well as a fixed blade and a machete when I'm in the field. I have a few different brands I prefer, but my Kershaws are all part of the heavy rotation for EDC and fieldwork. I've Chives, Scallions, Leeks, and my old DWOs that have cut through every possible material and food item, also a Shallot and a Blur that were doing the same until I lent them to biologist friends going to Belize on an expedition. Reportedly they served with honor and distinction, slicing through everything from papayas and mangoes to hanging vines, even opening some coconuts, and also coming out for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and the occasional late night snack. But they never came back... Reportedly! (I have to wonder).

Oh, I also pull out, hold, flip open and close them often, before they go back in my pockets or pack, just because I have them.

Now, if I could have a Kershaw slightly smaller (but the same quality, and I'm OK with the Wharncliffe) than my red and silver Centofantes, to replace the carbon fiber-scaled Spyderco Balance that I use as a money clip, I'd be a happy chappy. Anything like that on the horizon?

Yes I do cut things from paper to zip ties to auto hose to food ! All this with my ZT 0350 that I got
For xmas in 2010 !

Frank

Cut a bunch of vines that were growing up several big pine trees in my yard, over the weekend with my 0560. It was the first big task that the ELMAX had. Love the steel. Not too sure I will be able to do the same with my 0777 when it comes. But I sure will flip the snot out of it. But will have a hard time putting her to heavy use.
