Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

Still more in the CSC Camp.

I like the more traditional look of the GEC proposal, and I'll always prefer jigged bone over wood. That said, I'm not a big fan of the Spey blade. If they changed it to a sheepsfoot I'd probably switch camps.

I haven't been involved in a forum knife before. Will there be an official poll before the final decision is made on the chosen pattern?

Also, is GEC proposing a second option?

I really like many of the GEC patterns. I, however, don't favor the larger knives. I probably would not buy an 81. The shadow looks more compelling to me.

Thanks for the update and your work Charlie! I personally much prefer the CS offering, and am still in for two:)

The CSC still gets my vote in shadow pattern. Of course if its stainless Ill just have to wait for the company to release a carbon version cause I have no interest in the stuff.

Even if CSC isn't chosen to make the 2015 BF Knife, it looks like they may have a winner on their hands anyway. ;)

I'm confused. Many people have stated the GEC is too big for them, but isn't the CSC 4"?

Charlie,

Good job dragging that design out of GEC! Thanks once again!

Just going through the process here...

Both knives are 4" - I typically don't like knives that big, but it is what it is.
The CSC will be more pocketable - lighter due to shadow pattern, thinner, and most importantly, ROUNDED ends. I've given up on square bolsters because they eat pants pockets for breakfast.
The CSC is more unique (shadow pattern)
As a secondary blade, sheepsfoot beats spey every time (I love long speys, like on a trapper, but short spays have limited use in my opinion)
The CSC is a new pattern - we'll have dibs on it
GEC's had a monopoly on the forum knife for the last few years - we need to spread the love (this coming from a GEC fanboy)
Nice to help out the New York State economy, and the phoenix arising from Schrade's ashes

Summary: CSC for the win!

I think what's really going to be the deciding factor is CSC's major timing advantage and willingness to provide a material prototype.

I think the GEC looks like a great knife even with the spey, though I'd prefer a Turkish clip and wharncliffe (or sheepfoot), I just think there's too much sentiment already established in favor of the CSC.

I'd still love to see something from Case.

As many others have echoed, my vote is still with CSC. I would much prefer carbon blades for what its worth. I love GEC and that proposal does look great, but I can't get past the feeling that CSC seems to deserve it more. I love their offering, feels wrong to go another way, they put up an AWESOME design, hard to beat. I'm in for multiple either way but that CSC is calling

Will there be an official poll before the final decision is made on the chosen pattern?
While I too think an official poll would be in order, after reading through this thread I think the decision is unanimous for the Canal Street Knife.
Bear in mind though, we haven't seen all the proposed entries yet. Thus far we may not have to. I think we have found a winner already. ;)

Curious, why all the love for carbon blades? Ease of sharpening or you just enjoy patina or what?

I do prefer the non traditional lines of the CSC considering it'll be so light/I'm hoping for lignum vitae. This coming from a GEC fanboy I've never had experience with CSC so I'm accustomed to the GEC quality am and obviously pulled towards that side. I'm in for either that is chosen though/

I much prefer the Canal Street offering over the GEC. And I would much prefer it in 440C rather than carbon steel.

I respectfully disagree. IIRC, last year CS was also first to the table with a physical proto which was received as being rather mundane. GEC then proceeded to blow away everyone with the mock-up drawing of their new #77 jack. This year, CS again produced a physical proto before other competitors released their designs, but this time CS has produced a model which arguably is more intriguing than GEC's initial proposal. I'm sure GEC will come back with another iteration but let's give CS credit for opening with a strong contender.
