Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

I vote for this as is
Why?
We always want the forum knife to be something that is special and not able to purchase of the shelf
And we have not had a SS forum knife
So time to have SS
I would love to have this in 440C as a good quality steel

This example of Eric's work represents a unique example of a unique pattern of blade config and a shadow pattern
Eric has hit this out of the ball park
My kudos to him

I will be interested if Case or GEC can come anywhere near this

I also really like this design, and I am a fan of SS. 440C is a steel that I like the performance and sharpenability of, and the shadow pattern seems like one I would be likely to use and carry as a regular user.

Of course I was one of the people lobbying for a whaler, and that would still be my first choice... ;) But seriously, I am excited about this knife from Canal Street, and it will be my first forum knife.

Yay!!!

Of the prototypes presented so far, I much prefer the Shadow pattern, but I'd prefer carbon steel

I like the shadow look, very unique and traditional looking.

best

I'd buy this one today. Very nice design and features!

Neeman you hit the nail right on the head with all the points you brought up.
I think all of us would like something unique and totally different from past Forum knives.
CSC makes a fine product and their craftsmanship is right up there with GEC, Queen.
Erics prototype looks like it meets all the qualifications.

Sorry to be so distant my friends. I have taken a little breather from most of the forums. I have been at it for a few years now. I will certainly keep this thread up to date, but may back off for a short while more, on the others.
I'm sure I will be back at it soon!!

Latest news!!
I did invite Queen into the "game"! They got back to me, saying they will be here for 2016. They are undergoing some changes, and are very busy. I wished them all the best from us. I am sure they are trying to bring back their former glory!!

GEC has done a drawing for us!!
It is based on their #81 pattern, so is a big knife at 4 inches. They propose peachseed jigged bone and carbon steel, but those specs can be changed.
Otherwise, it is a very classic 2-blade Stockman, with Clip and Spey.

What do you think??

Not that my opinion matters much but I think the forum knife should be unique. That's a little underwhelming to me. Not that it isn't a nice looking looking knife.

Thanks for posting this, Charlie, and thanks to GEC for doing the work-up. It's a nice knife in its own right but I still prefer the CS entry (really like that sheepcliffe secondary Eric used).

As long as:

-It stays a shadow
-It keeps the lowered sheepfoot
-It has the sheepfoot nick on the pile side
-It stays at a reasonable price

I would buy several as gifts.

The GEC looks interesting... Wish it were a sheepfoot rather than spey, but the spey is certainly interesting. And I love that frame.

Case would still be cool to see, I shamefully don't have one.

I vote for the GEC, but mainly because they are my favorite manufacturer. The proposed knife isn't very exciting and certainly not very different.

Unless they come up with another knife, it looks like the CSC Shadow is going to win!

With the spey instead of a sheepfoot, I'm out. CSC looks grand, and especially if in their 14-4 stainless. But their 440C is great, too.

I'm just bringing this one over from the other th thread that Eric had posted showing a different shield with the sheepsfoot lowered & satin finished blades.

Just so it's on the same page as the GEC proposal.....

I retract my previous vote....... I'm all in for the CSC Shadow unless GEC pulls out something really amazing.

While I prefer a nicely figured wood, I'd be okay with micarta, as long as it's not black.

I appreciate your work Charlie, and GEC's involvement.

GECs outnumber my other Trads by a wide swath....that said I find their submission underwhelming.

I'm still in the CSC corner, so long as carbon blades are offered.

While the G.E.C. knife is interesting, to be honest, in a shootout against the Canal Street offering Eric came up with, sorry G.E.C. you loose this round.
The above is just my personal opinion though. :) ;)

Well, you sure know how to ruffle waters, Charlie. I like the CS knife a lot. If they make them I'll buy some, forum knife or not. But I like the GEC offering too. I prefer their shape, and the swedges on the blades. I think it's because they made it with long pulls; and I'd prefer a different secondary blade, but that's okay too. If they make them as they are I'll probably buy some too.

You really have me hoping to see what Case might propose.

And last, I really would like to see Queen in this. I'm already looking forward to 2016.
