Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

As much as I love GEC I still prefer the CSC offering. I like the blade combo a lot more, while the GEC is unique I don't find it to be as practical.

Even if the GEC were shadow pattern with wood or micarta I don't like the more squared ends. The CSC has a nice minimalist flow to my eye that the GEC lacks.

The GEC is a fine looking knife Charlie - I've recently been converting to more and more EDC with a single spring two blade 3-7/8" knife. I sure hope GEC builds that knife for sale as a future line item or SFO - cause it would be great to have one. That said, I still want to see Eric's CS knife (with those really cool looking Birds eye's bolsters) as the Official 2015 Blade Forum Knife. I promise to be happy with either blade steel chosen and any appropriate wood handle - but make sure you keep that pinned Federal Shield - it just looks "right". OH

Between the two, the jigged bone does it for me. I really like the spey blade (and I used to not be a fan) and clip combo. I'm also just not a fan of shadow patterns unless it's a soddie. I'd like the CSC version a little more in ivory micarta.

I like it...I would have liked it more on the 82 frame with the muskrat main and a sheepsfoot but I am a sucker for their peach seed bone.

With that being said, at this point I still prefer the CSC knife.

I'm still very much rooting for the CSC Shadow pattern! The GEC is nice but with that blade combo I like their 76 Western Outlaw more.

The GEC proposal would be MUCH more interesting to me if they swapped the spey blade with a SHEEPFOOT blade. Is that a possibility???

I'd also prefer round bolsters instead of square bolsters on a knife that large but it's not a deal breaker.

The CSC shadow pattern looks good to me.

I am already in for a couple beer scouts and dont have a CS, so I'm ok if no one out does the CS. Glad to see the competition begin

Thanks Charlie for the update. The GEC entry just isn't doing it for me either. Love the jigging and the clip but just can't get past the spey. On the other hand I like the CSC but without the wood unless it was ebony. Maybe as others have said doing it in a Micarta. Let's see what Case comes up with.

I'll second that, love GEC but not seeing much to get me excited with their proposal, its bigger than I normally carry, don't care for the squared bolsters and I generally avoid knives with the spey blade. I much prefer the CSC blade selection and the sleek design is more in line with what I think of for a single spring knife.

Not a big fan of the CS. I'd go for the gec , especially if they swap the Spey for a Sheepsfoot . I like the badge shield

As is now, I'll take the CSC. If GEC replaces the spey with a more useful edc blade, I may just change my tune.

Charlie, I honestly like both the CSC and GEC entries. I would be OK with either. I prefer Micarta or wood to jigged bone. And I'm all in on the single spring concept and an unmarked or plain shield like the federal shield. But I like both of the proposed patterns. I hope Case can come through with a proposal. That would be great to have 3 to choose from!

Thanks for the update Charlie, the GEC submission looks ok but I still prefer CSC and Erics design

I really like GEC, they may well become my knife of choice. Unfortunately I already have an Abilene Stockman so this doesn't do much for me. Charlie, I can't tell you how much I appreciate your work on this and everything else you have done. A hearty and heartfelt thank you!

Thanks Charlie! Of the two I still prefer the CSC design … by quite a bit actually! :)

I don't want to be negative but I don't like the look of that GEC. The secondary blade looks like it could be uncomfortable to use because of the way the clip blade sticks out. I don't think I'd end up ever using the spey because of that. Square bolsters on a big knife aren't my preference. My last negative comment is about the proposed jigging. I don't like that style of jigging all in parallel lines. The peachseed jigging on this Ken Erickson is awesome:

I found this picture on the forum. The jigging on these vintage Schrade is wonderful and I wish GEC would do something like this or like the Ken Erickson above for their peachseed jigging:

The jigging on the GEC proposal looks similar to the 2012 offering, although the finished product would probably look different. The shields on both entries look very similar. The CSC looks more streamlined and to my eyes looks more unique.

I think CSC knocked it out of the park this year with that shadow pattern. I'd take it as is with that wood. I think GEC did a good job and I'd probably be happy with that knife too despite my preferences, but I think CSC wins this round.

I've gotta say, I definitely like CSC's offering, but I much prefer GEC's proposal! This offering is a very classic design, and I am a fan of many of the elements displayed. The swedges are awesome, the long pull on the main is very attractive, and I like the look of the spey very much! I'd love to see what the knife looks like from the pile side as well. I find the swedge over the long pull to be especially attractive and unique.

CSC's offering is nice, but I do not really like shadows very much, as they don't really feel traditional to me. GEC's proposal, on the other hand, shouts traditional.

The real hero here is Charlie! Thank you so much for organizing this for us again, my friend. I am sure that it is a pain in the neck to try to corral our diverse group of strong-headed individuals. My hat is off to ya!
