Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

Charlie, I just wanted to chime in and say thanks for all your effort and hard work on behalf of the community here

It's a shame about Case :thumbdn:

Thanks again Charlie! We all really do appreciate your hard work on this even though we don't always show it well:)
I am ready for the vote!! Canal Street with Osage orange or another hard wood... I will take two:D
And let us not forget those unsung hero's that actually worked on a submission for us.
Thank you Eric, and who ever it was responsible for the drawing from G.E.C..

So, it looks like we're at the choose between the two stage. Aren't we?

Charlie's post says that after the weekend, he'll consult with GEC and CSC again. Maybe there'll be a revision to one of the knives?

That would be great on the GEC. The CSC is pretty sweet just the way it is. The only real point of contention seems to be wood vs micarta. I was initially adverse to the micarta. But, the more I consider the beneifits on a shadow pattern, I'm coming around. Wood seems more traditional, but from a manufacturing and durability POV, micarta makes a lot of sense. And, I think it could be made to look really good on that knife.

To be fair I am bringing them both forward on the same page again quoting bits of Fanglekai's post this time. (Thanks Fanglekai)
I'm still leaning way towards Canal Street Cutlery's submission. ;)
As an aside, I really like that Eric has jumped right up with a solid proposal.

Me, too. I quite like Eric's shadow pattern and I like the blade combo better as well.

Add me to the micarta corner as long as it isnt burgundy/maroon. A natural tan color would be nice.

Thank you all for expressing your gratitude!!
It is getting easier, and I always like seeing projects come to fruition, but knowing you are all behind me, makes it much sweeter!!

I think we are getting to the 2-knife choice stage pretty soon!

I will work on finalizing the details with the cutleries this week, and get some pricing to boot!

Charlie, thanks for the further update. Easier or not, I know it takes effort and comes with some frustrating moments. Thank you for the work you do, not just the forum knives, across the board. Thanks to the cutlery firms and Blade Forums as well all that put forth effort to make these projects happen.

Chris

Thank you again for all your hard work, Charlie! I would be happy for you to make the decisions yourself, but this discussion is a lot of fun, and I would love to see a poll or two. [emoji106][emoji2]

CASE's antics certainly are bizarre. They could've said no weeks ago fair enough, but to keep dithering around and then being insulting by giving Charlie and the forum the run around??

They may well be a big outfit but I'm reminded of the analogy of those giant dinosaurs who had brain and tail co-ordination problems due to distances and insufficiency...;)

Would've been a fine PR opportunity for them to show they can make a credible user knife for enthusiasts and collectors alike but seems they funked out. The knives I've had from them this past year or two have been really good and I have been very pleased with them, so this is disappointing behaviour.

Ah well, looks like CS by a landslide unless GEC pulls a last minute stroke of genius like Conductor with tip bolsters HINT!:D

I'd like the CS offering in stainless as theirs is good and this is something we've weirdly avoided in the past Forum Knives. I wonder IF it would be feasible from the point of view of cost and Eric's work schedule to offer half the run in wood and the other half in polished micarta? That way a lot of people are happy and you just sign up and pay first come first served for your preference. But I've no idea if this is possible from a production of cost perspective.

Things are moving on, good work all round:cool::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks, Will

Case may have been wary because they know we are more particular about fit and finish than the average customer - there are many threads are there complaining about the quality of new Case knives. Making a forum knife could be a PR disaster for them - I saw something similar happen on another forum where Queen made the knives, and there was a big complaints thread about people's dissatisfaction with the knives.

I'm disappointed that Case is a no show, but you make a good point fatcorgi. Case probably feels they have second rate citizenship here already and a forum knife blunder would forever be remembered as the "Case Debacle". Still, wish they showed up for us.

Eric

Thank You Charlie! I appreciate all the effort, I think we all do!!
It seems to me we have 2 fine choices right now as it is. I would buy multiples of either pattern shown.

It's true! You have to be brave, competent and confident to make a knife for this crowd!!
:D

I think Case should have stepped up and offered us a Case Bose pruner. For $100.00. That would have been such a nice gesture. :D

Thanks again for all your hard work Charlie.

Best regards

Robin
