Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

I prefer the GEC offering, like the swedge and long pull on that clip and the 4" length really isn't a deal breaker with me as I carry a Schrade 8OT from time to time.

I would prefer that the spey be swapped to a sheepsfoot but the spey is by no means a dealbreaker. They are a nice little blade that receives more flack than they deserve most of the time.

Not a real fan of the CSC and generally like to avoid stainless with most of my knives. I would still probably buy one, just my two cents.

Sorry to be so distant my friends. I have taken a little breather from most of the forums. I have been at it for a few years now. I will certainly keep this thread up to date, but may back off for a short while more, on the others.
I'm sure I will be back at it soon!!

Latest news!!
I did invite Queen into the "game"! They got back to me, saying they will be here for 2016. They are undergoing some changes, and are very busy. I wished them all the best from us. I am sure they are trying to bring back their former glory!!

GEC has done a drawing for us!!
It is based on their #81 pattern, so is a big knife at 4 inches. They propose peachseed jigged bone and carbon steel, but those specs can be changed.
Otherwise, it is a very classic 2-blade Stockman, with Clip and Spey.

What do you think??
Looks nice,bumping this .

If the CSC doesnt make it as the forum knife (and even if it does), I hope they put it in their line. Me rikey! Unfortunately, most of CSC offerings are sort of cumulative to knives I already own (thinking the trappers).

There is no way any one design can please everyone. Every year there are those for whom the forum knife design does not ring their chimes. Some quietly buy anyway. Some quietly bow out. No problems with either of those. However, please make sure that, if you don't care for the knife or the process, you remain in one of those two categories.

I was really hoping you'd stop by with some guidance. :) Thank you for this and a bump to the next page.

Well, you sure know how to ruffle waters, Charlie. I like the CS knife a lot. If they make them I'll buy some, forum knife or not. But I like the GEC offering too. I prefer their shape, and the swedges on the blades. I think it's because they made it with long pulls; and I'd prefer a different secondary blade, but that's okay too. If they make them as they are I'll probably buy some too.

You really have me hoping to see what Case might propose.

And last, I really would like to see Queen in this. I'm already looking forward to 2016.

I am pretty much with this. I have come around a bit on the shadow pattern.

I guess the only real show stopper for me at this point would be some ugly or drab micarta or G10, etc. Give me something nice like in this picture.

Does anyone know if Case was given a time frame for submitting an entry? is there one?

Jim

My gut tells me we won't get a proposal from Case.

It would be very cool if we did, but they are a much bigger beast than CSC, GEC and Queen.

I still think the CS with a centered shield and stainless would be a pretty awesome knife. It's grown on me.

Well, I have given up on Case!! After a cordial conversation with the person who handles this type of order, I felt we had an understanding about what, where, when and how much!!
I received a promise that they would look into the details, and get back to me with a proposal.
I have left several voice mails, gotten "explanations" of various types from secretaries/receptionists, and I have asked that handwritten notes be given to the person in charge. Most of you know me as a patient and reasonable guy.
I am however fed up!!
Zero follow-up from them pretty much spells it out. I am insulted for all of us, truth be told.

We have two contenders - I was hoping for three or four.

After this long weekend, I will consult with Canal Street and GEC again.
Have a great Memorial Day!! I will particularly remember my friends who died or were injured in Vietnam.

Thanks for your headaches. We all sit around getting impatient at times while you actually have to deal with people and/or answering machines and automated voice services. Thanks for all you do. I look forward to moving on with this project!

That's too bad that Case is unresponsive, Charlie. It must be nice to have that attitude about potential customers.

I hope you know we all appreciate the time and effort that you put into this yearly venture. Thanks again!

Hey Charlie, I know it's a little late to chime in with any changes for Canal Street, but I spotted this shadow Micarta handle pattern for their Pinch Air Lockback over on AG Russsell's site and thought that something like that might look good on the shadow pattern - it would sure make it unique! Not sure if feasible but something to run by Eric.

I'm more partial to the GEC. The blade combo is fine with me and I like the 81 pattern. I especially like the shield too.

This is my first time watching this process unfold. I appreciate the work that goes into it!

I appreciate all of the effort being volunteered for this process by everyone involved.

That is a bummer for sure. I wonder if GEC will take any of the suggestions on here, though they would probabely have to pretty much make a new knife to sway the majority.

Thanks for all your hard work Charlie and everyone else involved I'm definitely in if CSC gets it I love the shadow pattern especially if in micarta!

That is pretty darned gorgeous. I wonder if contrasting micarta bolsters would satisfy folks who want bolsters. I'm pretty sure I'm buying the knife whatever it turns out to be, but whoo doggie do I like the idea of a contrasting micarta birdseyed shadow single spring
