Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

Charlie, thank you for trying with Case. Maybe they will be more open to participating in the future.

I still think the CS with a centered shield and stainless would be a pretty awesome knife. It's grown on me.

I agree, tdkfm, especially if we can get a pretty wood or Micarta for the handles!

Hey Charlie, I know it's a little late to chime in with any changes for Canal Street, but I spotted this shadow Micarta handle pattern for their Pinch Air Lockback over on AG Russsell's site and thought that something like that might look good on the shadow pattern - it would sure make it unique! Not sure if feasible but something to run by Eric.

That is a beautiful Micarta and would look perfect on the CSC entry!

I'm more partial to the GEC. The blade combo is fine with me and I like the 81 pattern. I especially like the shield too.

I could be talked into either knife. Go ahead, twist my arm.

That is a bummer for sure. I wonder if GEC will take any of the suggestions on here, though they would probabely have to pretty much make a new knife to sway the majority.

Maybe they will! GEC has a lot of different patterns in the pipeline. Maybe they could offer the two blade, single spring in a different pattern?

Zero follow-up from them pretty much spells it out. I am insulted for all of us, truth be told.
We have two contenders - I was hoping for three or four.

Charlie,

I just wanted to echo Gary's sentiment. I appreciate everything you've done to bring this together. We'd all like more options, but that would be true even if you brought us twenty contenders. ;)

You've done very well to bring us two very strong options from two of the premiere cutlery manufacturers in the business. That's nothing to sneeze at. I respect your initiative to even attempt to wrangle a company as large as Case into this project.

Thanks for the update, Charlie. You have gotten amazing results again this year.

I am more than happy to vote for one of the offered designs.

I just wanted to show a couple comparison pics of a single spring #81 and a #15. The #81 really isn't much bigger. Of course, with the clip main, it will be a little wider than the one pictured. The thickness of these two is almost the same and I'm willing to bet that with a clip main and a spey or sheep secondary, they can make it a little thinner than these two muskrat clips.

After fondling this #81, I have to say I'm all for the proposed GEC knife. Antique yellow or copperhead jig bone would be awesome on it!

If it comes down the CSC knife, I love this idea of using contrasting micarta bolsters. Black ends with an ivory center would look pretty sharp!

Charlie, another thanks for doing all of this!

To be honest, I prefer Canal Street and GEC anyway. I think they are making the best production traditional cutlery right now.

That's too bad that Case is unresponsive, Charlie. It must be nice to have that attitude about potential customers.

Not customers.......knife fanatics. The volume they get from a lot of members here must be incredible. Their lack of even a basic courtesy reply speaks volumes I think.

Actually I did make one just to see how it would look, red "bolsters" with honey G10, kind of looks like a fishing lure. Doing one was fine, there was no time limit to making sure everything lined up and fit tight, but if I had to do a hundred or more I'd likely hightail it to the nearest bridge and do a swan dive! ;) :D

Pics or it doesn't exist :D

I would just like to thank all involved with this project for there time and effort. This is the first time i will be involved with the forum knife. I am real excited about it.
If you look back at post 120, you will see I posted the same idea as jc57. But I would like to see the bolsters in ivory and the scale as red. Or another color. I think it would be a stunnerof a knife.

Well, I have given up on Case!! After a cordial conversation with the person who handles this type of order, I felt we had an understanding about what, where, when and how much!!
I received a promise that they would look into the details, and get back to me with a proposal.
I have left several voice mails, gotten "explanations" of various types from secretaries/receptionists, and I have asked that handwritten notes be given to the person in charge. Most of you know me as a patient and reasonable guy.
I am however fed up!!

After this long weekend, I will consult with Canal Street and GEC again.
Have a great Memorial Day!! I will particularly remember my friends who died or were injured in Vietnam.

Well, at least we got 2 great options from 2 great companies to vote on. I'd be happy with both!

And so you did! I knew I wasn't smart enough to have thought of it myself, I must have subconsciously remembered your post and it stuck in my mind. As I look back at it I remember reading it now. Didn't mean to steal the idea intentionally.

My main motivation is that I would prefer Micarta of some sort (faux bolsters or not) over wood, but that's just a personal preference. I like that two-tone Pinch almost enough to buy it anyway, except I just don't care for the lockback on that particular frame.

Hey, John, I am just glad more people like the idea. I think it would be a great looking and unique knife. It would get my vote.

My preference would be a single color. No faux bolsters, please. An ivory or honey colored Micarta, or a more exotic, not-Ebony-again! wood (Osage Orange?) would be my choice.

Thanks again Charlie! We all really do appreciate your hard work on this even though we don't always show it well:)
I am ready for the vote!! Canal Street with Osage orange or another hard wood... I will take two:D
