Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

Eric, on the above knife (which is more in line with what the actual knife would be) the sheepfoot nail nick would be on the pile side. Just don't have any blades available with that setup right now.

The picture above is my favorite, with the one change I suggest being to put the clip's nail nick centered right under the peak of the clip. This would give more room for the thumb nail and be parallel with the top line of the frame for better "flow."

I agree, the clip nick might even look better left of center, probably be more pleasing for the user and aesthetics as well.

The above photo is my favorite of the CSC proposals. I agree with a slight leftward move of the clip blade nail nick. Gives an easier and more natural motion to opening the blade.

Great blade combination, I was hoping for a half stockman or something similar. I think the shadow pattern is aesthetically more pleasing and different, just have to be more careful about dropping it. Great to hear there would be pinned shields.

Moving the nick forward would mean putting it on the other side of the "crest" of the clip blade. It looks awkward if it cuts across the crest, IMO.
Thanks for posting the third option, Jake.

Charlie, Thank you so much for doing this for us. You are officially on my hero list.

+1

Large single spring, double-bladed knives aren't really my thing, but of the CSC offerings, I like Eric's original proposal best, albeit with a different shield. The second variant would be my next choice, albeit with the blades properly polished as per the first knife

The Shadow version is the one I would want, not that bulky bolstered version... For those worried about dropping a Shadow, well getta grip:D:D But seriously, think Sodbuster, they're wood, composite, bone or stag and they are tough indeed as Shadows:thumbup: Each Forum Knife tends to be different from its ancestors, so a Shadow is a fine untried idea, with a big 4" knife it makes a lot of sense to keep weight down. Drop those bolsters.:D

However, it will be interesting to see exactly what the competition is offering too.....

Thanks, Will.

Sorry to disagree with you Charlie, but to me this looks VERY good, and is also the easiest to get at and use.

I like the shadow version with the lowered blade as well. Agree with those that like the nail nick centered on the high point of the blade. I don't like the bolsters shown in the second version. Still wondering if it would look good with tip bolsters. Anybody out there with mad photoshop skills?

Nice examples there Jeff and I agree with you, my Queen Muskrat, a single-spring knife has very far forward nick(s) which opens like a dream. Same with their 4" Utility knife, can be done and looks good.

Centering the Nick would be a problem guys, it would have to sit lower so that it doesn't get in the way of the swedge. Particularly on this knife I'll have to do a long drawn swedge on both blades to help with clearance.

Understand Eric...that's why you get paid the big bucks. Thanks for straightening out us amateurs! Beautiful knife.

I prefer the shadow pattern between the two and I vote for the non-stamped shield. Asthetically, I also think centering of the nick at the crest is not as pleasing. Looking forward to GEC's offering as well...

Loving the look of the shadow version at the top of this page, but the bolstered version looks nice too so I am in either way! Thanks for the actual prototypes CS, it is much better than trying to picture a drawing.

Beautiful knife Eric, many thanks to you and Charlie. IMHO I do not like the standard gold stamped CS shield (but I love the company).

I like the placement of the nail nick in Eric's photo. That's where the nail nick would be on old knives. I understand the reason for centering the nail nick (leverage) but it always looked goofy to me on modern "traditional" knives.
