Cutlery Proposals for the Bladeforums 2015 Knife

Actually the opposite is true, it would sink down into the frame and the sheepsfoot could be lowered even more.

I like the idea of the turkish clip and then leaving the pull on the secondary on the same side as the Turkish clip.

The sheepfoot in the second sample (with the pinned shield) is about as low as it will go. Any lower and you run the risk of blade slap against the spring. I think the present clip compliments the sheepfoot blade size wise since they're both a similar width. A Turkish clip is so narrow that;

A) it might make the sheepfoot look overly large,

B) it would have a lot shorter lifespan due to its size. Ours is quite thin and nearly flexible. Perfectly suited to skinning but apt to wear down quickly doing everyday tasks.

Thanks Eric. It sounded good on paper!

I have ulterior motives with the tukish clip as this knife reminded me of one of my favorite Schrades (just in a single spring setup). I am still holding out for a USA cutlery to reproduce my beloved Schrade 93ot/893.

In a perfect world it would be a bit larger (perhaps on the 61ot/861 frame). Which is why your submission for the forum knife excites me so much.

I want to see the other offerings, but for the only present:

Nail nicks on opposite sides: it makes both functional and aesthetic sense.

Turkish clip: it would alleviate the problem of the nail nick placement and make the overall knife more pocketable and useable.

Shadow pattern: I don't understand the appeal of tip bolsters. I know I'm new school, but they look like a cheap after thought to protect an inferior cover material to me. I think a good tough wood, or the right synthetic, would look better and work perfectly without tip bolsters.

Just my humble, uninformed opinion. I honestly mostly look forward to seeing a true pool of options from several companies.

I am going to throw a wrench in, and be very opposed to the Turkish clip. I am not a fan in general of clip points, but the one proposed is fine. However, the Turkish version takes all of the things I don't like about clip point blades and magnifies them!!!
The current offering is just about a perfect knife IMO:thumbup:

I do not care for the tip bolsters. I would prefer standard bolsters or barring that a shadow version.

No need to get to hung up on these anyway. We still haven't seen the other two companies' submissions. Those might be even better.

I think this knife would be even better if it had a Turkish clip. That way, the nick would have more leverage, and there would be room to have the nick on the mark side of the sheepsfoot, while keeping it nice and low in the handle. I would also love to see this knife at around 3 5/8" instead of 4". Being so slim, but that long, seems strange to me for some reason. I know the size change would mean developing a new pattern, but I think the Turkish clip would be an easier task. I think that the Turkish clip in a serpentine pattern looks sooo sleek.

That reminds me of the Northwoods Mini Moose, which comes in a bit shorter (at 3 1/4") than your preference.

I suspect that Eric put quite a bit of thought into the prototypes he's produced ;)

And I would be thrilled to have any of his prototypes chosen. They are all winners in my book.

They look great!. The idea if the shadow or even better just a tip bolster with the Turkish Clip. I will take two! Steven

I hope we get something from Case or GEC. Regardless, the shadow pattern rocks. The more I look at it the more I want one.

Thanks for the words of wisdom, Eric! You nailed it down, IMO!!

I really like the shadow and the idea of a lowered sheepsfoot with opposing nail nick. This is shaping up to be a real winner!

If GEC or Case are able to beat this I can't imagine how cool the knife would be.

The pattern Eric has produced, with the plain, pinned nickel silver shield, needs no improvement, in my opinion. But there's more to come, so we shouldn't get too excited - just yet.

The shadow looks great to me. I really appreciate all the work and thought. It seems to me that the blades on a double ended jack such as this should have their nicks on opposing sides since you have to turn the knife around anyways to use each blade in turn.

If produced, the knife would have the nail nick on the other side:)

I'm still liking the second (lower profile) shadow of the options presented by CSC so far -- but an very curious to see if anyone else even presents Charlie with an alternative.
