That looks to be a crush avulsion injury of the distal phalanx of the second finger with exposed nail plate and a subungual hematoma. Your next photo appears to show trephination of the nail.

I do a fair amount of hand surgery as part of my practice. 1/4 of plastic surgery training is in hand surgery.

That sux man! Sorry to hear it. Hope you get better soon. I'll look around for some Yuengling but this far south of the Mason-Dixon it's kinda doubtful. If not, there's always PBR. :D
 
Just talked to the Moose......Seems to be in good spirits and looking forward to some pain relief.........Attitude is up, loopiness at about normal......The sun is out and he seems a lot happier than I would be.......

Lets just hope he doesnt get idears about sticking his other appendages in machinery to get painkillers and paid days off........

Hate to hear you got hurt big guy. Glad it wasn't worse. You need to soak it in the Big South Fork.

If he was half the Moose we thought he was, he would have simply cut off the thumb, cauterized it with the acetylene torch and went back to work.
