Dagger Progression

Thanks nutria_man! I got Master Butch Harner to make the blade :)

You are exactly right Butch, I was playing around with some metal rulers which are exactly the size of the blade. and I kinda find them to be a bit wide. Maybe The blade should be thinner than 1 1/4??? an inch?? I really want this thing to be stiletto like. And I really want to keep it as tactical as I can ( Hence the no contouring in the metal for the handle) ... as well as strong as anything can ever be... I was looking at some Striders the other day as well as a Busse and some others... And I kinda really like my handle idea that I had before and for textuer just ribbing it like a strider.

But I don't think it would work with that wide of a blade so cut it down to ~1 inch width>?

Any input from others is welcome! ( Make some drawings and put them up )

Remember: able to hammer into a tree, Razor sharp, Stiletto like, Tactical, plain and simple no frillyness... Think EK meets Strider....

What did you have in mind Butch?

forgot to mention.... I love my blade design With the very slight recurves.... It's very pleasing to my eye. I'll draw something up late tonight with i have some time.

ok I was fiddling around with some old latex rulers and 11 inches long 1 inch wide with about ~.21 is perfect Then I added a nice handle that is kinda like a flat octagon ( The one I made a quick and dirty drawing of) And it worked like a charm! Perfect size perfect length... The handle seemed a bit long but it worked out.

the length from the base of my palm to the top of my index finger is about 7 1/2 inches. my ideal grip circumference is about max 4inches (witch feels kinda thick) So 3.5 and some killer sharp grooves will be ideal. Also it dawned on me.... do i need this razor sharp? maybe a tad over 1inch convexed?
ideas thoughts?

I'm getting excited!

had a spare moment ( I put an edge on the ""knife"" ) is it advisable to do a recurve on the thickness as well? I found the thickness to be quite beefy...

I guess I'm the only one posting... I went to see some Busses again.... And g-10 handles seem the way to go.... black or grey!

Also butch keep me updated, as This thread will move into the depths...

Would love to finalize this knife idea, soon I will be super busy with my lovely studying 24/7 crap

needs to be determined....
Is my idea workable????
how far blade will be finished.
handle I will get them made... ( colour? Shape? Scalloped and grooved?)
Price? Would love to know now before we drop interest rates again thus appreciating exchange rates due to UIP... and all that lovely stuff.

I re measured that knife.... Boy was I off on the measurements....

I "re"profiled the whole thing 3/4 of an inch width is plenty... Darn....this thing keeps getting thinner and thinner....

11 long .210thick .75 width.... turning into a real stiletto.

so your gettign closer to what you thing you want

are you still sure no ears for guards on the handle tang juncture

I really don't know how to make them look awesome with a thin blade.... I was toying with the idea of nice thumb serrations that jut out from under the handle are closest to the blade. I think if they start long and taper quickly back to the .75-.9 width of the blade that may be pretty cool... also that .75 can go wider... I'll leave it up to the maker .75-.9 I just want to keep the blade looking nice and thin.

Would love any imput from the thread stalkers... I know you guys are reading this... keith_H i see you...

I would definitely consider some form of quillion for any dagger. It doesn't have to be too pronounced, but something is needed to keep fingers from sliding forward and gripping the business end of the blade during a push cut.

Maybe as you move from butt to blade, have the quillion somewhat gradually ramp out a bit with some texturing for grip, and then, as you suggested, quickly blend back to the ricasso.

Maybe even less pronounced than that, if you want to keep a low, sleek, profile. Though, I do like the way they look.

Maybe something like this:

silver that's very very sleek... You got me thinking....

if my "grooving" was more subtle???
maybe if i get some really grippy g10?

I think your design is looking good. Obviously, the grooving would be less severe on the actual knife, but it gives us the idea. I'd say maybe draw them out just a bit more as you suggest in your drawing, or even contour the handle some to allow a more seamless transition. But that's all up to your personal taste as the commissioner.

I think I may skip a quillion. I had a dream last night and it had blue linen mica/ bead blasted blade.... and scalloped and sharp subtle grooving... in the mica... looked awesome lol... however the blade might have to be closer to an inch in width so I can get a good handful of the handle

So finally coming to a close here... first time in 2 weeks that I was able to get a full nights rest. I spent the better part of the morning trying to imagine what it would look like...... here she is in her splendid glory.....

Now... upon talking to so friends I can do my own bead blasting, And as some one pointed out We do have some great knife sharpeners here in Vancouver So I guess I can find one... However if i can get it done on the cheap I will go for it, or if someone chimes in here saying they can finish and sharpen it... (BAN??? I love the looks of your finishing!)

All i need is that sexy blade, and a handle made with Torx screws. Such a tactical ugly beast! not in everyones taste but I love it!
