Daniel prentice ripped me off!!!

Like I said, I understand your anger. You have every right to express your feelings. It just appeared that you were lashing out at the very people trying to help you.

It would be very helpful if you were to go into more detail about what is going on and what has transpired. Until more details are known, it is kind of unreasonable to think that everyone is going to hop aboard, so to speak. I understand if you are reluctant to post personal correspondences. I understand that when someone is angry and upset, they might say or write things they don't want to be made public. However, if you could post details like dates, times and events with enough information such as is relevant, it might help to sort things out. It might help to look through some other posts in this forum for inspiration and guidance.

Has Mr. Prentice been made aware of this thread in order to give him a chance to respond? I'll try to contact him and let him know of its existence. Again, it helps to work the problem and try to get things resolved than to blindly lash out and accomplish nothing.

I sent an email and a PM to Daniel Prentice alerting him to the existence of this thread so that he has a chance to respond if he wishes.

Randy Wiggins

I also agree that it isn't very helpful to keep posting responses to state your point if you don't give any information to go by.

It's almost like:

You: He stole my money
Us: Really? what happened?
You: Who cares what happened, he stole my money!
Us: We want to help, but who did it and what happened?!
You: Why aren't you guys backing me up?
Us: Why aren't you giving us information in order to back you up?!!!
You: He stole my money!!!
Us: WTF happened ALREADY???!!!

.....savvy? :p

From the evidence in this thread, it seems no one was ripped off.

I know Iceman in real life, personally. I know he is not a liar and that this is all true. He may not be prone to the BF ways, but this is 100% a real, happening event.

Daniel Prentice- make this right, or be forever in the Hall of Shame.

Ron LaBella

LaBella, I agree. Iceman, do you have any contact information such as a phone number and address for Daniel Prentice? As Alex stated in post #24, Daniel has not logged in as of 31 AUG 09 and has not posted since April. Has he been in an accident or similarly incapacitated? Or is his absence more sinister? Has he done this to anyone else? Again, Iceman, any information you can provide will be most beneficial.

Mr. Prentice has contacted me via email and asked that I post his reply here as he is not permitted to access BladeForums while at work. Here are his responses:

Message No. 1:

i appreciat the news. i have some knives that was stolen out of my car that I was going to ship, found one that was sold on ebay, the guy who has that one refuses to send it back to me. He bought it for 70 dollars, even had the detective call him and still he refuses. i will post it up in the comments. so I am having to remake them. so I may be slow at getting them out but I will not screw anyone over no matter how long it takes me to make them.

I really do appreciate you sending me the info.

Daniel

Message No. 2:

Below is from the guy who purchased the stolen knife from ebay seller which is a local pawn shop in fayetteville nc. The others have not shown up yet and whos to say they ever will.

haroldbrahier@msn.com

Mr Prentice, I hope you are not anger. all i`m saying is your e-mail was very agressive, and i hoped you may see this from a differant view. i could understand your anger if you had given the police a photo of the knife and ask them if they would notify the pawn shops. there can`t be that many pawn shops in your town, are there ??? I don`t feel that the pawn shop should be obligated to call around for everything he takes in. how far is that shop from you ?? ityou could have gone around and asked to be called if they got a knife like it...?? If the knife has special meaning to you, i would be willing to swap for differant peice.or maybe you could make me one like it and give me a good price. ?? but i tell you this , on man will respect this knife or the talent thet made it more than i will. I travel some. mom checks e-bay for me and lets me know if something nice comes up. she did good this time.. check her e-bat buying. the knives are for the sons and grandsons. the cions she gets for the grandsons...we have Petersons, kalfayan, Dozier and many more.we ues lesser grade ( handmade ) when we hunt. these are collector peices. thank you, please let me know. Harold.. =

this is the last email I got from the guy. I am going to post up his emails about what has happened. They were boxed up for shipping and laid in the back seat of my SUV, reported them stolen when i noticed that they were gone. This guy wants me to replace the knife for nothing in order to get it back and he only paid 70 dollars for it. I just got out of the army in april and having troubles adjusting both financially and otherwise. Dealing with my disability (shoulder) has slowed me down on being productive.

the guy above: I offered him to make him a replacement bowie for cost of supplies only. appx 150 dollars, he agreed a few days before this email and now he says he already has paid enough money. I am in N.Carolina at Fort Bragg, he is in Florida. If you would like to post my replies I would appreciate it. Being at work the puter will not let me log into bladeforums.

A note to everyone. I have procrastinated due to a variety of reasons: new baby being born, leaving army, physical limitations, and having to work alot of overtime just to make ends meet (which I am failing at). I will make good with everyone and anyone. If I feel that I am way behind in ANY order, I will make up for it in either a free knife or a heck of a discount on any future purchase. That is
my promise. I appreciate all who understand this.

Daniel Prentice

Message No. 3:

I have two knives almost done as replacements, two i got to make sheaths for which are neckers for a guy in california. So I am working on it. Also, In a few months I am moving back to Tennessee and there will be a little more delay for two guys and I will let them know. But I will make good on everything.

Daniel

I asked him to respond on this thread and he stated in his last message:

okay, will post it up tonight. thanks again,

Daniel

I'm not saying he's a liar, I'm saying that there is a reason people keep asking for something. There's the respect to a man to take him at his word, but there's also the respect to the community to condemn another man only after you've had some corroboration.

In regards to Mr. Prentice's relayed e-mails, IIRC, the ultimate possessor of stolen property has no legitmate right to that property, and the law permits its seizure and return to the rightful owner. In other words, even though this Harold fellow had absolutely no part in the theft, he is still SOL on the Prentice knife in his possession, and I don't believe Mr. Prentice owes him anything or needs to give him anything to get the knife back lawfully. Someone please correct me if I am wrong on this.

I also know iceman to be of solid reputation ..... if Ron says he knows him personally that also means alot....Icemans posts are short and i'm sure he has a reason. :)

Sir, This blade was made specifically for someone and was stolen when someone broke into my car when I was at the court house dealing with a ticket. I done a police report. the people you got it from never contacted me about the blade. Yes, i handforged it. I would like to talk to you about the blade. I would like it returned, but in addition to I don't mind making you a very very sweet deal to recoup your cost in what you lost, The pawn shop will be taken to court for selling stolen goods.

Mr . Prentice, My mother won a ebay listing that claims to be of your makeing.it looks really nice ,and if forged by you.this was a real STEEL. if you remember it you might tell me the metals used ? the ebay # is 380137542713 , please give me some history... Thank you harold =

Mr. Prentice, I feel you to be a talented and gifted man. I knew this was a very nice deal. and i came to you because the seller tells people to in the listing.this would tell me the seller may not have known it was not properly aquired. did the law enforcement tell him to look for this knife ?? if not, i feel you say " GOD BLESS" but not for all.. have you spoken to him and tried to "work it out " ?? or do you only want to work it out with me ??? if you really beleive in God, then isn`t everything ment to be ?? God is good to me, VERY good to me. this is why i have the knife.when i saw it , i felt the QUALITY you put into the peice.I would be willing to talk, but any end result would requier a replacement peice of the same effort.and think about it. had i not contacted you, you would not ever hane known... thank you..harold. any Swap would requier me seeing the replacement. as i said. the only value i hold is the craftmanship and Quality i see. i would consider swaoing for one that is built now.as long as i see it and like it. as i said i travel and i just opened this mail. you can call 813-426-6078... Harold
Mr. prentice, as i said , i would like to trade for another. send some photos of some that are not commited for sale and i will look.you seem to get angery if you do not get your way at once. you would appear to be old enough to have out grown that . i am in fl. you are in nc. and the knife is here. i did nothing wrong. i contacted you. i did not have to.if you do not want to work it out to both parties satisfaction than do what you need to do. i will not be bullied. i was outside when you called. call back and we can talk. or do whatever you need to.

Hey Daniel, glad you responded! I hope all this gets worked out to everyone's satisfaction.

As to the guy who has your property. I believe that the law stipulates that he is in possession of stolen goods. You should be able to recover them through proper channels. Can anyone else chime in in regards? -- I see that bigmark408, in post #30, already did! I agree! Thank you, bigmark408.

I had these two and other blades stolen out of my vehicle downtown fayetteville.
I just got out of the military in april, making many adjustments, cannot get medication from the VA cause they have not rated me yet, having to work a fulltime and partime job to get bye, just had a baby three months ago, and amongst the other misfortunes I have had including shoulder surgery and things I would not post.

I WILL make right with iceman. I have sent him one blade, polishing another one, and I will even make him a third for the hell of it as an apology that some a##hole stole from me and from him. Now, I have never screwed anyone in any deal and generally making sure that they get what they want is important to me. Maybe I am not the best at timelines, maybe I am just having hard times right now, BUT BOTTOM-LINE YOU AND ANYONE ELSE WILL ALWAYS GET MY PRODUCT FROM ME NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES ME.

I do, like most i imagine, bite a bit off more than what i can chew. I don't plan on misfortune for myself or for anyone else.

I posted up some of the conversations of the person who bought that one knife for a whole $70.00, yes i posted it right, that also upsets me. I have tried to get it back, even offered that guy if he returns will make him a compareable piece at cost with no time filtered in. He still will not return it.

Now, iceman, you have my address and if you are that pissed off then drive one hour down south and we can handle it anyway you want. OR, you can just wait and get TWO more blades from me.

Also, I am going to be moving back to Tennessee soon, That will be another delay, but anyone I owe anything to will get it. THE ONLY WAY I WILL NOT GIVE WHAT I OWE IS THAT I AM DEAD SINCE I WILL NO LONGER GET DEPLOYED.

From my last concussion i do have some memory loss, not a cop-out, documented, so that is a handicap for me as well as PTSD. So, Lets drive on, shut up, and you will get TWO more knives.

Daniel

AWWW, btw, i do owe a few other people knives, be patient with me as i am with you.

If i was in a position to just give you your money back I WOULD. and wash my hands of you.

Daniel

Yes, you are right about the communication. Just having a hard time adjusting. Been trying to get refills on my meds and getting turned down from the VA, coming off some of them has put a toll on my and my drive to do anything. I understand the frustration he has, but I don't like to tell people my dirty laundry...........

HDCharlie, I beieve you can see why in the information he posted. He is a disabled veteran who is suffering medical issues including memory loss and PTSD. I know it is hard to understand the effects of these types of injures, but let's cut him a little slack - especially since he was so quick to respond both privately and publicly. It also looks like he HAS attempted to communicate with Iceman in the past. Regardless, it looks like things are working out, so let's not make things worse, okay?

Respectfully,

Randy Wiggins

That is why I am also offering a free blade as to be the better of the two. Life happens, just trying to play the hand I have been dealt
