Danny Collection is here...

Very light surface rust, likely scrub off, use a bit of very fine abrasive or a rust eraser in the direction of the existing marks on the blade.

I've successfully done this before with older / used knives. But on a brand new knife, I'd rather send it back.

Also, the spot nearer the spine (second photo) feels more significant than just surface rust.

Mine has a spot almost exactly like yours. I just buffed it out, call it a head start on patina. 😁
I hear ya about the new knife not being perfect, my toys all get used, it's the only way I have left to justify getting more. The marks we leave on things make them ours, some people want a pristine canvas, I'm happy with mine

Just got my Danny 110 only to find what appears to be rust already on the blade. I know 5160 isn't the most stainless, but this is pretty disappointing.

I've already contacted Buck Customer Service and they are sending me a return label. I don't know yet if they'll be able to fix this or if this is going to require some other solution.
Well mine had blood spots on it. Oh, wait, that was my blood. But to your point, when I buy something new, I don't expect it to have rust on it. I am going to have to look at mine closer now.

Hope you didn't get yourself too bad, sounds like the knife claimed you, cant get rid of it now.

It's not a stainless steel so I expect it to discolor, red rust is a problem but some oil and a light scrub and good to go. Just keep it oiled and clean it off after use and shouldn't hurt anything.

You're not alone. I have the same issue. Multiple spots of rust already forming on what's supposed to be a brand spanking new knife. Also, mine has what feels like a touch of side to side wobble, which frankly, irritates me, since I just got the Magnacut Buck 110 that's flawless. :/

It is the 3rd time I've done it. When I am closing it, my finger gets in the way. The knife just touched my finger, but when they are so sharp, it doesn't take much pressure to cut. It is always the same finger - left index. I guess I can safely put it away because it tasted blood.

Very nice looking in macro:

You do know that 5160 is NOT a Stainless Steel at all right?

That burlap looks great, bummer on the rust and wobble.
For $125 I don't expect perfection and some tuning/finishing/cleanup isn't unexpected. Especially for American made with a carbon steel. Very pleased with what I got for what I paid, not sure how bad your wobble is but I'de take that rust if it came with that burlap. :)

Candidly, for over a hundred bucks, a special version of a $60 knife* should be perfect, especially given how old this design is. I can tell you this, I have a Copper & Clad 110 in 5160 and I've never seen so much as a pepper spot. For a knife with a blade in the same steel to come direct from the mothership already with surface rust is a sincere disappointment. Others' mileage may vary, of course.

* Of which I've owned many, and all of them were flawless

Well I received my knife and it too has a fair amount of rust on it. one has to wonder how long some of these were sitting around for him to make 290 of these 110's and the 149 other knives to be made before the entire offering was ready to be "released". The 110's must have been sitting around for a while in a damp environment without enough corrosion protection. Nice knife, nice and tight an I like the aesthetics and feel of the scales. I have a couple 120's and a 119 in 5160 that were C&C exclusives a few years ago and they were spotless when I got them and they still are. I live right on the beach and store them oiled and out of open air.

Maybe the black satin bags they come in retain enough moisture over the time they are sitting around to start rust on 5160 steel. With folders made with 420HC, S30V, S35VN, 154CM and stored in those bags it would never be noticed...but with 5160....??? I know that leaving a gun in a foam case for any time is a guarantee for rust.

It is pretty obvious these were probably inspected when made, boxed up put on a shelf for who knows how long it took Danny to make the entire offering, and just pulled off the shelf and not inspected prior to shipment.

I just noticed when I closed the blade and looked at the rust...its located where someone's (sweaty??) thumb would make contact when opening the blade...see the compare the picsdanny2.jpg

Mine had a 3/3/23 build date on the box.
