Danny Collection is here...

Although, I wonder if members here had an opportunity to pick up the 923 or 192. They went so quick.

I saw the email the second it hit my inbox and checked the site. I could have easily bought any of the knives listed and refreshed the page many times over 10 minutes or so before anything showed sold out which pales in comparison to other “drops” that sell out before the website even loads.

I didn’t buy a knife, just watched, and now I regret not getting the 192 haha. That’s ok though, I have about 100 knives in that size range, I can’t own them all!

There's a lot of folks that just hang out on the computer all day long.

My opinion is any time Buck has such a limited run it should be a limit of one per customer.

Being able to buy more only encourages flipping.

Then it becomes a game I'm no longer interested in playing.
Exactly why I quit the GEC game!!!

To clarify, one knife of each model offered or one knife/model and that's it?

Seems to me flippers would work around rules and such.

At least one per customer for a couple days.

I think I could have gotten the turquoise one, but I spent too much time trying to figure out what it was. I didn't know turquoise was white, for examp!e. Luckily, I did respond on the 110 and 192. I was not interested in the Vantage because of the cost. If the blade is what is making it cost so much, then they should have put it on a better knife. Again, there is nothing wrong with the Vantage. I just think it was priced too high for that knife.

That burlap looks great, bummer on the rust and wobble.
For $125 I don't expect perfection and some tuning/finishing/cleanup isn't unexpected. Especially for American made with a carbon steel. Very pleased with what I got for what I paid, not sure how bad your wobble is but I'de take that rust if it came with that burlap. :)
seems like a 125 knife should come with a little oil on it... lately bucks come so dirty. my danny 110 grinded itself open on its first try there was so much polishing compound still on it... didnt recognize any rust but did notice a giant finger print on the blade of each... I dunno... not really acceptable...how the heck do you oil a knife thats covered in black clay?
seems to me there is a process between sharpening and going into the box that is being missed. Also, you can buy a dang fine knife for 50 - 60 dollars so anything else is gravy and it should be perfect

5160 rusts, it would be nice if they had oiled it better I agree, none of the rust I've seen has been more than superficial. You can polish it out if it bugs you or just wipe it down and move on. If you are actually going to carry and use the knife then who cares. If you are buying it as an investment(lol) or to flip, hoard, whatever, it's just a $125 knife be realistic on what $125 gets you these days. $125 is a bottle of whiskey and a few cigars for friends. Y'all aint paying custom prices quit busting Buck's balls and blowing this out of proportion. The "Hey this blade is rusty perhaps oil em a bit better next time" is fine and good. Mailing them back so they can polish it for you and mail it back is silly and if you think the new prices are high keep wasting money like that and they will just get worse. Or more likely they just wont do runs like this again.

Buck has been more than accommodating please don't make them regret doing small runs like this by being a bunch of Karens.

I think we can make points and share opinions without calling those we disagree with a "Karen".

That simply alienates people you may actually get along with if you tried.
Unless their name is Karen, perhaps. There was a point there, though. If the rust goes away by simply wiping it off with a Scotchbrite pad or something, does it make a lot of sense to return it? Get the surface rust off then apply some mineral oil or something. I didn't see any rust on mine but I always wipe the knives with oil before I put them away. Then again, I am not going to begrudge someone if they feel the need to return it. It is their prerogative.

With that, may I end this with "Beware the Mango Bird"

If the shoe fits... if not then please disregard.

When the magnacut 110's dropped people were complaining that the lock recess wasn't smoothed and polished to their liking, Buck has never finished that area. Now we are surprised to find that carbon steel rusts and hand assembled knives may have a fingerprint or two. Far from making excuses for Buck, a little oil is a pretty easy fix, but then I'm sure someone would complain that their knife is too oily. Heck some knives have been going back because the blade can move a little side to side when closed! My intention in calling this out isn't to alienate anyone or make them feel bad, it's to bring levity to the situation in hopes we can know what to expect, how to fix some minor issues, and enjoy our knives more. We should encourage Buck to do more releases like this. Instead of whining and complaining about every little thing when they do. It's good to give them feedback and give them a chance to learn where they can look into improving their processes. It's not good to abuse their generous return policies or drag them for being low quality and poorly finished.

If that's too direct, well take me to your leader. 👽:)

Most of the magnacut issues were from people who never owned a Buck before. Some people do complain about small things. That being said, I've been buying predominately Buck knives since 2012 (a youngish, I know) and the qc issues I'm talking about have developed in the passed 6 months. Dull blades, misshapen blades, work sent in that came back unfinished, and dirty knives. Custom Shop and botm included. Large companies have qc issues all the time, when they do, they should be addressed. I'm not complaining and sending my stuff back. Didn't even call Buck when they returned my knives unsharpened with no bushings after 4 months, just having a conversation on the internet with people I don't know. Lol

I have sent my Danny Collection 110 back.

First of all, both Rich and Brie (sp?) at Buck Customer Service were AWESOME! They were both very accommodating and a genuine pleasure to speak with.

Second, the reason I sent it back is because I would prefer a professional handle the issue. Sure, I'm capable of removing the surface rust myself with some Ballistol and 0000 steel wool. Heck, I've done this before without issue to my Mini Crooked River after getting the knife sweaty from yardwork and not cleaning off the blade properly prior to storage.

However, the spot on my Danny 110 that has me concerned is the rough rust spot near the spine (pictured in my previous post). This spot feels more substantial and worries me that it's deeper than just the surface.

I am not a knife maker nor am I a knife restorer. I am a data analyst and auditor. So I honestly don't believe that I possess the knowledge or skilled to properly handle what I fear is deeper rust. I feel much safer having the professionals at Buck fix this for me.

Glad they hooked you up and are going to make it right.

5160 is 0.6% chromium.

If you don’t want rust or discoloration, don’t buy a knife in 5160. Even as a safe queen, you better be compulsive about oil, grease or wax and how you touch it before storage. It should be a using knife not a safe queen and you better love patina, stains, and pepper spots. It will be a tough knife, durable and flexible.

I store my knives in regular amazon left over cardboard boxes with silica packets in each box. The more expensive the knives, the more silica packets per box. Knives laid out in rows, on top of a single layer of towels. Nothing fancy. I handle them with white gloves (literally). Never had any issue with any knife in any steel.

I think the "you better be realistic about 5160 it rusts, so if Buck sends you a rusty knife then that is what you should have expected because it is 5160", are missing the point.

If the knife rust, after, you receive the knife. That is on you. If the knife rust while in Bucks care. That is on them.

New soap box. Had to use it.
