Dark ops for real?

Gollnick,
hehehehehehehehe....lololololol!!!!

This is too much, you guys have me laughing right out of my chair.

I still think tatoo might be a good choice!!! he can take on mini me and Dr evil while James bond slips into his space ship to "de-arm" the giant atomic, nuclear, tnt bomb using his super vandium D2 , 154cm 440v, 30sv, vg10, carbon, 440c, dark ops knife to cut his way into the ship (the door is locked). And as He is disarming the bomb Mr wigglesworth jumps on his back only to find instant death by the darks ops razor like edge of the "mutant" steel blade.

Please get your info right. That's: "Bigglesworth". :)

I just tried to call them just to see if their knives exist. I got an answering machine, I didn't leave a message. Maybe I'll it try later.

Megalobyte,
Thanks for the correction!!! uhhhhh hmmmmm......

(...that sound better??? :) )

And don't forget that Jaws is actually floating around out there in space somewhere waiting for his opportunity.

Maybe with a Dark Ops knife, 007 can finally deanimate the one evil henchman he's never been able to properly defeat. Afterall, any knife that can penetrate comm block body armour and aircraft skins MIGHT be able to break one of his teeth.

Gollnick, its a great idea, but I think it needs to be coordinated. Its seems to be a bit off balance to start (with the last entry not lining up)

Its seems to be a bit off balance to start (with the last entry not lining up)

It needs a next post that pulls the first two together and launches us off on a story full of covert deanimation and lots of blood spurting.... in a very controlled manner, of course. You could make that post (hint, hint) ;)

Ok so I gave Frank another call, he seems like a reasonable guy.

Here's his number if you want to call him: 417.883.9444

What he said is they are not ER knives, though they do have similarities, and he based his knives on ER because he thought they where the best tactical knives to date.

He's made many improvements.

He's unfortunately missed his initial production date, but will have knives starting in about 2 weeks and at shot show, booth 3573. Also they'll be distributed through moteng.

He understands people may not like his advertising, but he thinks that once people get ahold of them, they will find the quality and the improvements there.

Now just to be clear, PERSONALLY, I think his advertising is doing a disservice to the knife community. I also feel that the similarities are so great that they are essentially copies with improvements. However as we discussed on the phone both of those things are subjective and different for each person.

Anyway, feel free to give him a call.

I am quite turned off by the advertisements. I think it further gives knives a bad name.

Aside from that, rarely are knives ever used in combat. When I was active duty AF our F/U's only were used for "utility" purposes, whether in the field, or when I was in Desert Shield/Storm.

Most everyone I know, myself included, who has ever been involved in a war does not appreciate that kind of advertising, nor do we (me, nor many I know) believe that nonsense printed on the site. Usually people who say such things have been watching to many movies and TV shows.

So has anyone figured out for sure if these guys are actually affiliated with Extrema Ratio or just a ripoff of ER?

I have a ER Fulcrum that I really love. If I knew it was from the same guy that wrote the DO website that would be, well... icky.

Similarities? Similarities?

That's like Ford copying a Honda Civic and putting Ford badges on it. Oh sure, there are similarities, but look, this piece of trim on the fender has a slightly different shape.

fulloflead, Frank used to be a distributor for Extrema Ratio. A while back, they parted ways. One reason I remember reading about was a bunch of knives went missing and were never paid for. It would be a shame if those knives
were used by Frank to start up his own company.

Edited: After thinking about it, I think the personal attack on Frank was unnecessary. I don't know the man, and don't know the full story behind his and ER's relationship.

Like EAA witness did with the CZ75 pistol?
(Except EAAs are good I hear.)

The similarities between the Dork Ops knives and the ER knives is as subjective as Rosie O'Donnel's love of a good drumstick, no, it's quite objective.

Frank may be a good guy, I'd like to believe that, but, it's hard, when the Dork Ops knives are clearly copies of ER knives, whom he worked for and no longer does, the advertising is absurd and wholly irresponsible, and, ultimately, potentially damaging to the knife world.

Since they are essentially slightly modified ER folders, I have no doubt they will be excellent knives, my ER Nemesis is one of the finest folders I have ever come across, but, even if the Dork Ops knives are even better, that changes little.

Even if Frank realizes how damaging the ads are to him and changes them, there will still, always be the issue that they are copies of ER knives, so, unless he changes the ads, and totally redesigns his knives, I can't see any way out of this for him.

He might still be a decent man, but one who apparently has made some very poor choices.

Thanks! Good. I can still love my ER and not worry about Dork-O. ;)

I agree. There will be a LOT of people who fall for it though, unfortunately.

As a man who both loves drumsticks and could stand to loose more than a few pounds myself, I found that to be in poor taste. :(

ooh.. the shenanigans of the business world..

i don't know squat about the mass production of knives, but those are ER-similar to the point that they must come out of the same manufacturing plant. oh, the shenanigans.

[edit - i just forgot about the copying prowess of CS & blackjack. nevermind, a different plant is possible]

I think the biggest problem with the company is that the name converts so readily to "Dork Ops"

:D

I don't like the fact that they lied at Bladeshow saying that "FedEx lost the package with the knives in it."

Apparently, FedEx lost the package again for Blade West.

No.

There was no package because there weren't and still are not any knives.

They falsely-accused FedEx.
