Database Error...

yes, this is an issue. But I find it strange for so many members to actually talk like as a group they are being shorted on paid services. This site offers more value than ANY site I am aware of. With the shear numbers of members, , many of which pay nothing, ( that is the real issue) I find it sad anyone would act as it they are getting cheated or losing any money based on the actual price paid per member. The system supports all members, those that "ride free" and have over 10,000 post , to those that pay a higher rate and seldom use the service. The owner, Kevin, has allowed access to All members and "given" entire forums that produce no revenue. I know of no other place that offers so much, gives the members the freedoms found here, devotes entire forums to groups both small and large and covers and protects members Worldwide. Keep in mind that the Exchange, is free once a membership is obtained. Meaning regardless of transactions numbers a single small fee is charged. Think about what other sites charge, vs. what they offer, Fleabay ?? Kevin could likely fix and pay for upgraded equipment if everyone paid something, many here don't pay a cent, charged a per transaction fee, and did a scum move like some sites, where you are forced to pay certain penalty fees to remain a member.
With the numbers of "freeloaders" here, it's clear where the lack of funds come from. I will say this, unless you pay your way, stop complaining and hope no one points you out, otherwise realize that by not supporting the site, you are part of the problem. And if you think the site is worthless, the owner has email and pm ,I imagine Kevin, ( Spark) would prefer it that way. Everything in life cost money, this site is no exception.

You are clouding the argument with a lot of fluff, and I think it's the fluff that's getting in the way of your comprehension. The argument is actually quite simple.

I have been only casually following this thread, but I recall seeing only one member explicitly state that he paid for this service and was disappointed that he wasn't getting all of what he paid for. Regardless of the value he's getting for what he paid, the fact is that if he's not getting all of it, then he's getting shorted. Now you can aggregate the time that the forum is down and prorate what he's paid against the amount of time that it's functional, and say that he's only losing several cents worth of value, but several cents is more than nothing, is it not?

When someone pays for something, they expect it, plain and simple.

Then we move on to those of us who have not paid for any membership. This includes myself. I participate in a wide variety of message boards similar to this one on other topics, and have been doing so for about a decade and a half. While this message board may be the premier message board on its topic, in the grander scale of the internet it is not something uniquely special. And I mean that with no disrespect to the owner or those who help run it; I do not mean that in any judgmental way; solely as a statement of fact. There are lots of other message boards just like this one but on other topics and they all provide thousands of members talking about thousands of little details and opinions related to the topic of that message board, and the vast majority of them are free. The ones that have advertising, such as this one, are by and large free to access. So in my opinion and based on years of experience I do not believe it is realistic to expect users, especially casual or lite users such as myself, to pay for access. Furthermore, I do not believe that lack of payment on my part takes away any right I have to point out issues with the functionality of this website.

Finally, I would like to point out that from my experience with running (not just using) a message board such as this one, the "database error" that seems most common is not an issue that can be fixed by paying for "upgraded equipment". A database is almost certainly caused by a coding error, and can only be fixed by editing the code.

Let's keep this to the DB errors. Thank you

I get this BD Error Page EVERY Night at 9pm-10pm Pacific time. I am locked out for an hour.

Any suggestions Spark?

Thank you.

Yeah, Same here. I don't understand the requirement for an hour of daily downtime but if it really is a requirement, I suggest moving it forward a couple of hours(3 AM EST?) to minimize the impact on west coast users.

The streak continues. Database error message. Down for about 45 minutes or so from shortly after 12am EST to before 1am EST.

I'm getting the same thing every day at 1:15pm (GMT +8) and it was back on when I tried again at about 2:00. Other than that I have had no other problems to speak of.

I wonder why some people say they get the outage at o'clock and I get it at nearly bang on quarter past the hour every time ?.....

Database error 11/26 9:08am EST. Lasted only a couple minutes.

dBE 11/26 (early this morn) at 12:15am EST... Forum was back up when I checked again an hour later.

Yes it seems to be every single night. Missed out on a few deals because it it too. Kinda really annoying.

Also when it first starting happening I thought it was my phone and I did everything from restarting it to pulling the battery out to try to fix it. Would have been nice if there was some kind of announcement about this event happening....especially since it's been happening often and for long periods of time

Curious if it occurred last night

Interesting. I've been changing around settings and I'm glad that I've been able to eliminate them as a possible cause

Have you tried analyzing the logs from the servers? Anything this catastrophic will leave tracks in the logs.

You would think so
