David Martin - RIP

Update I was contacted by Leesa - dave’s wife
She says thank you all for the kind thoughts and prayers! She feels like half of her is missing…
She has asked me to let everyone know that please don’t ask on dave’s collection as she is still in shock on loosing him. She will need time to sort her life out with out Dave …
When she gets to the pont of being able to handle that she will let folks know of that. And thanks in advance for that !

I’m not sure who would ask for that.

Thank you for posting this. I enjoyed reading it and getting to know David a little better. No wonder we all thought so highly of him.

David was probably the most knowledgeable guy ever on this forum, especially when it came to Buck steels. I always enjoyed his posts and pics especially when he would post pics relating to Buck knives and the outdoors. Since I live in an area that doesn't have much bird hunting, I especially enjoyed it when he would post a hunting pic usually showing a bird dog, a Buck knife and some awesome looking shotgun. No telling how many questions he has answered for me over the years, and I'm sure when we all have a question relating to a Buck knife in the future, if we type it in under the search forum, he'll be answering them for us for years to come in old archived posts.

Hi folks, it's been awhile since I've been here on BF but I got some bad news this morning and figured I should pass along the word here, since from what I can tell my Uncle Dave was still fairly active here.

Thursday morning my Uncle, David Martin, at home in New Mexico, suffered a massive heart attack and passed away. The rest of us in the family were pretty stunned since he was in pretty good health and had only just retired from the Dept. of Agriculture a couple years ago. If any of y'all know his wife, Leesa, she is doing alright so far, one of their daughters and her husband are there with her and the other should be getting into town fairly soon as well.

I really hate for this to be the way I jump back in here but I know Dave always loved knives and Buck knives in particular. He's probably one of the main reasons I got into them so many years ago as well. I hope I'm not intruding on any rules here at the forum, but I saw that he was a Mod and wasn't sure if there'd be anyone else passing the word along here.

He was one of my favorite Uncles and he'll be sorely, sorely missed. But I'm also grateful and thankful he had a heart for the Lord and know that he's resting easy in Heaven with the rest of our family that's waiting for us to join them.

Best wishes to all of you, I know he loved the community we have here and it's a real loss that he won't be around anymore.
Saddened to hear this, and a bit shocked. May he Rest In Peace! With prayers for David and his family too, may God console them in this difficult time.

I have been away from the forum for a while and just saw this the other day. I can not tell you the feeling it gave me. Words just aren't there. He was a Great Man and So Kind. You will be Greatly Missed my Friend. The Buck community has suffered a great loss but his family has suffered the ultimate loss. May God be with you and hold you in the days to come.

A bit late here, in posting my reaction. I hadn't been aware of DM's passing until today.

My very first post on BladeForums was to the Buck Knives subforum. That was 12+ years ago. I'd signed up specifically to seek input on a question I had about one of my Buck knives. Being that I started there and took a quick liking to the many friends & fans of Buck knives on the forum, it didn't take long to get familiar with David Martin's expertise and his generosity in sharing it. Thus it began, in my own personal history on this forum. Needless to say, it's more than a bit of shock to read of his passing so suddenly and unexpectedly. He'll be missed.

I have been away for a while. I came back last week and was wondering why there were no post from David. Then I saw this today. David was the first one to answer a question I had about a sharpening stone I had. It got me hooked on this website I will keep his family in prayer. His advice will be missed.

I’m very late posting my condolences, I do miss David and never met him but message him a lot and learned a lot from him, bought one knife from him that I’ll have forever, I never know what to say in these situations, my condolences to his family and friends,
Corey,

its been just a hair over 2 months since we lost David. I miss him on the forum. i hope his family is doing well as they can through all this. I'm having a quick moment of silence in remembrance.

With dove season right around the corner I think David would be getting ready for that. I know he would post his Buck Knife, his shotgun and dog, and a few dove. I miss his presence here, as he certainly added an extra dimension to the friendly Buck culture. OH
