Love the comradery and the information in this thread, as well as the cool swords.
OK, the only cutting I do is maple and sassafras and pine, usually saplings or green wood. I am just checking geometry and heat treatment when I do it, and I am not a good cutter. I am working from a Chinese tradition, usually, and the cuts are always one handed, but other than that there should be a tremendous overlap.
Steven and Joe (I think) both mentioned, "the paper trick," to help improve technique. What is the paper trick? Is it something that can be learned enough over the net to give it a try?
Only training I have ever received has been from Scott Rodell, but I haven't had much (if I don't hurry and finish this jian he designed for his customer/student, he may cut me with it!).
thanks for showing all of this, and keeping an awareness of safety.
Glad you have the little pup, Joe. My dogs definitely keep my wife and son safe when I am not around.
