Death Chat!!

Hey Guys,

Just got home from seeing the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie and now I'm in dire need of a sword again. Ban...ya still got that 3' chunk of steel layin' around??? If so...we may have to get started on something!!! What can I say....it's the kid still living in me!

The movie was good, but not as good as one or two of the others. Still well worth the ticket price though!

Hope you guys are well and have a GREAT weekend....I'll be running around in the woods or floatin' on a boat!!!

All the Best,

Stump

Ah...what is it about swords... :D I really miss my Waki...

I just picked up a Condor Combat Machete though...pretty fun lil guy. Basically a gladius. I'm going to have Nate make it a full double edge for me :)

Hope everyone has an excellent holiday weekend! Stump, I'm heading up to your half of the state...going to be car camping with the GF in Humboldt  Looking forward to it. I'm stoked to try out my new down sleeping bag; temps are getting to record lows for that area tomorrow night: 33F.

Went to Ikea today and saw a chef's knife, the fit and finish was ok, but the convex edge was decent and the steel was VG-10! I was pretty shocked to find VG-10 stamped on the blade!

I found a nice vg10 chef knife set at costco sometime ago. Damascus and all for roughly 70bucks. Bought a set to try out for kicks. I took the larger santoku and easily bent the whole blade with my fingers. The heat treat must have been crappy. Returned it the next day.

I wonder if you could properly heat treat them and get good results...

It probably is possible to redo the heat treat. Just have to drill out the solid bolts and remove the handles. It would also need to be reground and refinished. Just not worth my time and effort.

i use to eat this fruit a lot back in grade school since there was a tree on the way home. i was walking the dog and found another. can you guys help identify it? its sweet, sour, tangy, similar to plum, and there's 3 big seeds inside.

Sure looks a lot like marula fruit although I am uncertain it is present in North America!

I think that fruit is called a loquat.

I use to pick a bunch of that stuff around my neighborhood when I was a kid.

Yup...Bans right. Loquat. So good and unappreciated here. There are around 4 different kinds that grow all over the Bay Area. They need no care once established and are used as an ornamental tree. I never see anyone pick their trees. My buddies and I hit the trees around here each year. I think people dont like them because they are hard to peel and eat. Personally I dont care because they are so good.

I'm a day late, but Happy Memorial day! RIP to all the fine men and women who served our country.
