Death Chat!!

Ban, have you done any santokus in a high carbon steel like A2? Might be a little high maintenance for a dedicated kitchen knife, but I like the patina it develops.

Now that I think about it, I don't like patinas more than your frosty finish hahah.

I prefer low maintenance steel for the kitchen. But I am sure some A2 kitchen knives can be arranged if folks don't mind the patinas that will form over the nice frosty finish.

I like low maintenance for the kitchen too. Sometimes, I just don't have time to baby a kitchen knife immediately after using it.

Some pics from this past weekend (humboldt and a lil bit of the Lost Coast):

Awesome pics as usual! What kind of camera do you use? Colors always come out very vibrant.

Unfortunately nothing fancy, it's just a Canon PowerShot Point&Shoot. Point and shoots are limiting in general, but shooting pics in relatively low or diffuse light is especially challenging. I often have to tweak levels to compensate. One of these days, I'm going to get a DSLR and start doing some of that awesome HDR photography.

Ok, that's what I thought, I have a pretty decent Canon point and shoot too, but I still can't take photos like that so props to you. I'd like a DSLR at some point too, but they're so bulky I most likely won't ever carry it around.

Ban, I've been stalking the forum waiting for pics of that santoku. Are we going to see it tonight?:D

Canons do take pretty good pics with lots of light but with low light mine have always sucked.

finally my weekend begins! hoping i have time to attach the handles to the knives im making tonight. thinning down micarta on a 1x42 belt sucks!

at a Japanese bar drink sake, don't think ill be grinding tonight unless i want to turn my knives into spoons.

Yeah, it's annoying. The only way I can get decent pics in low light, is to use a tripod...camera shake is bad. And in bright daylight conditions, I have to shoot at morning, dusk, or with the sun at 90degrees to me, otherwise the sky just overexposes if I want to capture the stuff in front of me :grumpy:

Nice pics Russ...Looks like you had a good time. Too bad the new Tarptent wasnt in yet.

Yeah, it was a nice lil trip  It's ok that I didn't have the tarptent, Autumn was with me, and the model I got only sleeps 1. I just got it in the mail on wed or thurs...super small and light!

Id buy a spoon from you.

Me too. Make mine with green burlap micarta :D

haha, i guess there's a business for a2 spoons. i have always thought those titanium and g10 chopsticks were cool.
