Death Chat!!

Went on a large group bike ride this past Friday and now I'm hooked! Looking for a entry level single speed (freewheel) bike now...

Something along these lines.

SWA is having a sale on flights, as low as $40 one way. I just bought a ticket to Vegas to go to the USN show in September.

Ive always wondered what those bikes were like to ride but those seats look painful. Just dont start with that Critical Mass bullshit Mrpink. :)

One of the projects I have planned for tech shop is building bike frames.

I suggest that you get fit for a cheap bike, ride a lot (around 1,000 miles) and then get fit for a custom frame.

It's kind of like Yoga in that your body will adjust to your positioning and over time you will get more efficient and more aerodynamic.

Believe it or not, back in the day I rode somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 miles, maybe more. I don't have an exact count because I had batteries die in my cycle computer.

Thanks for the heads up!

hahah! I think most the time if you're actually biking hard, most the weight is on your toes. Your ass is almost hovering over the seats. At least that's what I'm going, improper or not haha.

Ha, Nate and I were JUST chatting about wanting to get road bikes :)

Cool, we'll have to talk more tonight!

So you're a master swimmer and biker? Prove it!

Should I bring my hair net helmet?

Any way, after four years of bike riding in Los Angeles I had to quit when I came back up here.

The reason:

Asian drivers!

Seriously, I had my life flash before my eyes about three times in the first week I tried bicycle commuting up here.

I would rather be fat than dead.

Not that I necessarily want a fixed gear for my own road bike, but it would be less maintenance for one.

right on Huy.. fixed gears are a lot of fun... though i can no longer ride them with my jacked up knees..:( they're getting pretty popular these days.. that is all i see kids riding around here..
i looove single speed bikes.. the mtn. bike that i ride, i originally built as a single speed.. but 2 knee surgeries later, i have added some gears to it.. its now an 8 speed..

Gears are expensive.

I really want to build a Super Record 11 bike but the gruppo costs something like three grand.

A decent fixie (the whole bike, not just a gruppo) costs less than $1,000.

Bikes are another expensive hobby that I cannot afford right now.

Also, explain to me whats wrong with having gears on your bike?

I think it's just more maintenance and crap to go wrong. There's just something about the simplicity of single speed I guess.

I'm in the market for a single speed, however not a fixed gear version. I'd like freewheel version since it's more for casual/beating around.

I'm new to this, just started my research yesterday. from what i know, single speed comes in two forms, fixed (pedals fixed to gear) and freewheel (ability to coast). So fixed is just a type of single speed.

Yeah, I don't know much either, so it's easy to confuse em from time to time.
