December 2021 BOTM?

I couldn't resist ! As you said, a really unique combination.

With the 50th Anniversary of the 112 next year - this knife will at least satisfy me if I am unable to get one of the other rare 112's that come out in 2022.

I had been thinking about the 2021 Legacy take apart 110, but I really don't like marbled carbon fiber. And compared to this 112 BOTM, being only 500 produced, the extra $50 is worth it. I assume more than 500 of the 110s will be made this year.

The Koa wood seems to be really nice looking with variation in the grain / patterns from the pictures I googled.

S45VN steel - "improved corrosion resistance and edge retention" over S35VN. https://knifesteelnerds.com/2019/11/01/crucible-s45vn-steel/

Take apart construction (will go nice with my BOTM 112 take apart I already have - the first 112 take apart). I believe ? this is the 2nd Buck 112 take apart ?
I have the 2021 110 carbon legacy…
its not so great…looks better in the pictures than in real life and in your hand..
You made the right decsion.

Beautiful knife, I love it! But as others have said, I'm not seeing a $250 knife...? And 500 made? So I'm not even sure the aftermarket will be there at that quantity. If it was 150 made or even 250, it seems like it would have more collector value.

Screw construction is nice, too, but Dee Yam.
You make perfect sense…I agree with all your points

its a gamble,…
I bought two…and gambled …
maybe someday they will be worth $500 a piece…maybe only $150…..who knows…I do not flip for profit..
I have lost money on every knife I sold…..
Just look at what 1 sold today….3 knives…lost money on all three.

Respect for your opinion. But you list some of the reasons for my decision to actually purchase this knife. Except I feel the opposite to you (and others).

Collector value - absolutely. At a minimum, in the short term - 50th anniversary next year. I think a lot of collectors will be after this knife; once they find out it even exists. Most likely the knife will sale out today (maybe tomorrow).

500 made - yes, I really miss the good old days where it was a mad scramble to get one of the 150 or 250 made. 500 made - I don't consider "rare", but depending on how many people decide to flip the knife or keep it, you may only see 1 or 2 for sale a year. As for the after market demand, depends how much Buck pumps up the hype for the 50th Anniversary of the 112.

And compared to the "customs" on the Buck website. I don't really consider those to be customs (crowd gasps in horror); I see it as a knife for sale with options. But there is no real rarity to any of those customs. You can purchase as many as you want, each and every day, year after year (until Buck changes the options). Plus, with the current website "custom" options - no Koa wood (although there is ironwood), no S45VN or even S35VN steel, no aluminum frame take apart construction; not really an apples to apples comparison. Just my opinion.

The price - it is all relative. So far 300 people see the value as being $250 plus tax. Only 200 left.

But again, respect for your opinion (definitely not singling you out or any such thing). Your opinion just confirmed my decision to make the purchase.

I totally respect your opinion. If I was floating in money and didn't have to consider the financial aspect, then I would get one. But with so many knives I want and buy - like the Annual BCCI 117 Knife I just ordered and the Pathfinder Pro I bought last month - I have to really consider the value proposition and the "how bad do I want it factor" these days. And for me personally, the value proposition and the "how bad do I want it factor" added up to about $200 or maybe $215. Even $225 would have tempted me.

Of course, these are all personal decisions we have to make individually. But yes, if I had a lot more financial resources, I would have bought one.

There were other factors for me, too. A drop point would have been more appealing to me personally. As nice as Koa wood can look on some knives, I'm not a huge fan if I am paying that much up front without knowing what the scales will look like on the one I get.

Just curious. This 112 says "Satin Finish". Is the 110 legacy satin finish. It does not mention the finish on the blade on the website.

Same thought process for me (I had been waiting to see what the BOTM would be). Instead of the 117 I went with the BOTM. If the BOTM would have been a knife I was not interested in, I would maybe have purchased the 117.

EDIT: - I'm glad I didn't go with the 117. There is some conversation as to what are the actual specifications. The answer from Buck / BCCI - "117 blade with a 102 shockwood handle. So the picture part is correct. It’s the description that is off [on the BCCI website]". Forum thread - Copper and Clad / Buck 117 Post #17 and on.

Wow, $250 is extortion and I was going to pay it. However, the additional $20 in tax made me bail. The knife is not worth $270 for me. I know it will sell out as the resellers will gobble them up and jack the price another $100. I already have a takeapart 112 and They sold for $130 less!!!

I love that Buck is doing knives like this.

Most of my collectable knives are fixed blades, and my folders are users.
It's nice but doesn't make sense for me.

There's a number of Customs I've been wanting so..... after the Christmas rush for Buck, I'll go that way.

I'm still pretty happy with the looks of my ebony and brass knives 😊 .

It's discouraging to read folks post how they can resell them. 🧻:mad::poop:🚽.
Go ahead and do it. Just don't post your greed here please.
Go hang out on ebay instead.
You're not a collector if that's what drives you.

They posted a video on their Instagram page and I got to say, the knife looked pretty different than the sales pics, especially the wood. It looked very chalky and bland with very little color or grain, but the color of the blade and bolsters looked off also so I’m wondering if it was just the lighting they shot the video under.

Just for the record, in my post where I said that I was passing on the 112 BOTM, I did mention that I do factor any potential "collector value" into my decision - NOT because I buy knives to sell, but in case I decide to sell it someday. I have almost never sold a knife for more than I paid for it - it's almost always the other way around.

I really don't think there's a lot money to be made in flipping knives, for the most part. I almost feel sorry for people who don't have a better way to spend their time - or a more profitable one. That said, I find it distasteful, like most other knife enthusiasts.

Not you.

I too have little space for admitted flippers.
I've sold a knife or 2 for a bit more than I paid. (actually, by the time you add fees and postage, I broke even) But I never boast about it on a collectable forum.
That's just, well. ...... sigh.

I see what you mean about the colors; on my monitor the person showing the knife, their skin looks pink-ish and the box lid looks washed out light grey (in person the box is black). So maybe it is the lighting ?

I hope so! I didn’t even look at the other objects in that video but for sure the lighting stinks, everything has a weird color to it now that I watched it a few more times.
