Diamond J Knives, What happened to them?

Dago Red,
I hope that you are right. I am mostly PO'ed do to the lack of communication. Also Gertrude was actually made when I paid for her, and I have been told multiple times that she had shipped and tracking info would follow.
Our word and our name is our bond. My name is all I have to put forth into the world. If I am not true to my word, what have I got? Nothing.
We are all in that same boat, especially on the web where our words are all that others get to see. We must be true to others as we would like them to be with us.
Sorry for the sermon, but I feel strongly about that sort of thing.

I am not sure what is going on with them, I am still waiting for a knife to be made from early June, I am a waiting a email to see what he says. I hope they can pull through this since they do make very nice knives.

I've been waiting since May for several knifes too. I'm out nearly 300 to date - I'm hoping Dan makes it right with me. Same deal, first knife rocked and transaction was great. Next one for bigger money hit the family issue - which is/was fine. But either get back on it or send back the money. It's pretty simple.

I'll keep going a little more to blow of some nervous (I'm out 300 bucks) steam. I'm a partner in a small business too. When my partner had a big unexpected surgery I told everyone that some stuff wasn't going to be able to happen for 3 to 4 months - if that. So if they needed to go somewhere else - do so. I think all that feel shorted here are mostly complaining about the lack of communication - either personally - or on this thread - or forum.

Personally I'm not angry with the situation just a little concerned at the lack of info, I still believe Dan and Marce will come through.

That's my hope too. I love the knife I have. But I think all would understand a little apprehension/anger if they had money out for 1/3 of a year with almost no feedback and a total lack of presence on the forum.

Put down a 50% deposit with no qualms after dealing with Dan and Marce previously. My knife was ordered at the tail end of June after discussing a few details with Dan, I didn't get or ask for an estimated delivery at that time. Later I asked Dan how she was going, he estimated a time for finish that has now passed, but as I say I am not particularly worried, I can tell by our email exchanges and by what others have said about the brothers that indicate they are honorable men.
Something is askew - so is life but I know I'll get my knife.:D

Hi All,

I just got an e-mail from Dan. He was hit by a drunk driver and has been in the hospital and just got out today. He will be replying to our e-mails as he gets himself back together.
Dan also let me know that Gertrudes shipping box got crushed and she cut through her sheath and was hanging out of the box at the FedEx office. He has made a new sheath for her and buffed her up from her rough handling at FedEx. I look forward to seeing her.
I also apologized for being such a doubter. I guess it is in my nature, but I should use more restraint. :o
Sorry to hear of your misfortune Dan and I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks for the updates
:thumbup:Get Well!
:D

only commenting on the statment above > no way this could happen - I mean really > how can a knife cut through a sheath while inside a properly packed box and then stick through a box. And somehow all this happend at the origin drop off location. that is Bull

Good to see I'm not the only whose BS meter was pinging. The OP ordered 2 knives, but only recieved one. Why weren't they in the box together? There's a lot to doubt here.

You know what destroys a knifemaker each and every time? Taking deposits.

Some of the finest knifemakers in the world make thier customers wait years before completing orders. Waiting a long time comes with the territory, especially if your getting something special.

The entire relationship goes to crap when money is exchanged before the knife is completed.

Collectors, don't give advance payment or deposits. The risk is always greater than the reward.

I agree, the reason Ipaid in full then was because they'd asked for a deposit to help with materials, which I thought would help speed things up of course, and figured why not past was fast. (ha, rhymed). But the buddy I was getting it for isn't really a knife guy but had been very excited and impressed by the one he saw I had. Now it is months later I doubt that giving it to him now would have the same impact. I'll end up selling it and getting what I can of the now much needed money. ah well, shit happens right.

I would ask him to refund your money immediately. Sounds like you do not need the knife now and this guys seems to have more excuses that are humanly possible. I have seen this before. They always come up with the same stuff, someone is sick, died, had to go to hospital, blame it on USPS, FedEx, or UPS.
The reality is maker communication is poor, you have been lied to and you should have your money refunded.
Having empathy or sympathy for someone is a nice human trait, but when it is one thing or another time after time, no communication - well, facts are facts....and the BS meter is going off the charts.

They made some damn fine knives.

But there is no excuse for taking deposits on knives under $1000 and there is definitely no excuse for dropping communication.

Plus, I thought this was a two-man team? Where's the other brother?

I hate to see such talent get messed up like this.
