Diamond J Knives, What happened to them?

Esav,
I really appreciate your looking into things for us all.
That must be why you are one of the Super mods.
I do hope all turns out well for all parties involved.
Rick

I wish them both a very speedy recovery. I've had my share of injuries and surgeries and it is not fun to say the least.

When they return, they will be wise not to take advance payment. If their knives are good enough (and I think they are) they will have no problem selling the knife if a buyer is not able or willing to buy a knife once it's done. It's simple. invest a little money in materials and tools, make a great product and you'll never have to worry about advance payments. Then you won't have to worry about being hounded by patrons wondering where their knives or their money is. Two of the best custom-user makers on BF don't even take orders. Fiddleback and Bailey just post what they make and they always sell. (I'd include Bill Akers here, but I don't know if he takes orders or not).

Stop taking advance payments, and you can take time off whenever you need to for any reason and nobody can say anything about it.

How about everyone just let the money thing lie and chalk this up to "lessons learned". Two decent guys got hurt, and there are more important things in life than money.

I think what's so troubling is that the shipping delays and excuses began long before this accident. If not for that the OP would have long since had his knife and none of this would have been posted.

Agree with Lone Wolf. The sad part is when people don't communicate and make up excuses of all sorts time after time; when something bad does actually happen one finds one self questioning the validity of it. Of course no one wants to do that, but at some point how can you not? It is almost like the story of the boy who cried wolf. When the wolf finally shows up, everyone did not believe him. Sad, but who's fault is that? In the end people reap what they sow, luckily most folks are decent enough to offer support and forgive.............forget, maybe not.

I will wait and see. Hopefully the brothers will heal and get everyone taken care of.
The key to changing this situation for us all will be lots of communication, followed by action, followed by more communication.
I DO NOT want to write them off. I like their work, and try to think the best of people until there is no possitive way to.

I have had no replys to my attempts to contact them.

Me neither. I wish them the very best, but something's certainly going on whether it's a medical issue or something else. I had a dealing with a gunsmith that was so over-the-top that Ruger ended up replacing the entire gun themselves free of charge (including shipping) and it was really more my fault than theirs. There was a supposed heart attack, but I don't think there was.
One of my own customers just died and his daughter was a pure gem in getting an expensive sample back to me just today while I was trying hard to not be insensitive (less than one week after his death).
Maybe it's legit and maybe not. I'll let you know either way.
Oh, and I broke and dislocated my hip racing motocross 20 years ago on a Sunday and was physically in front of customers that Friday and on a flight that following Sunday to complete training halfway across the country. Was on the phone with my manager while just coming out of general anesthesia in traction with 3 IV's.
I'm just say'ing and I very well might be wrong.
On a side note, our basement got flooded last week and I need the money right now a lot more than I need the knife (with a $7700 deductible and all).
Life's a ****** bitch, but I think I'm done with this knife bull****. I've got my Spyderco folder and am 100% good-to-go. I don't need or want anything else.

AL&S, I do agree with pretty much everything you said except I don't think I'm done with this knife... stuff. Not yet at least, but I am awfully close. I still would REALLY like one of Diamond J's Santoku knives to polish off my kitchen set. So when they're back up and running I'll be back up and buying. Best of luck, Dan!

My 2 cents.. I've ordered and received 2 knives from Dan. I asked for a custom sheath, and they delivered. They asked for feedback on their site, and I did. I would give them a break and hope all is well with them... As someone mentioned, life is more important than knives and money and after healing and dealing with lawyers and pain and loss of automobile--- I'm sure they will show up and make good on their deals.

IF not.. it makes no sense why they would build up a great knife business and let it crash down over a few hundred bucks.. Just doesn't jive, but then again, crazier things have happened and life takes it's turns..

I have faith in them.

Agreed with the tolerance expressesed to date. I'd just love a quick reply here or on my email that the 300 bucks i sent them is either on hold for a spell or coming back my way sometime. I'm not in a big rush at all - but our communication issues started in June.

Nothing yet and I couldn't find anything online about an accident. I'd either like a full refund or there'll be a nice knife up for sale if it arrives one day. The third option is that I'm out $300+.
I don't buy the story and we all have challenges these days.

Hmmm 1 week later and no responses still? It is JUST a week, but then again it is a week with no communication. I don't like doubting, but it is a rough call. I hope I didn't give props to a lost cause.

Really hope to see this end well for all parties. And yes we all do have challenges.. I am still dealing with a car accident from 2.5 yrs ago.. End of this month I might be wrapping it up... costly and stressful but I find time. MAKE TIME. I would think making knives was a big part of their livelyhood and that keeping it moving forward would be important................................................

I find myself not believing any of this either, I am a patient guy and like to give the benefit of the doubt to people, but the lack of communication and bad luck story followed by sob story followed up by another bad luck story is just too much, c'mon Dan and Marce - man up, what has really gone on? You guys are idiots, you could have been rock stars in the knife world and you go and do this?

I really hope it gets together. I sold the one I had to a friend the other day, he liked it so much, and his friends liked it so much, that he called them after finding thier website expressing interest in a couple more.

It is sad to think that such a talented team will be lost to the knife using public.
Most sad is that they will get a bad reputation in the community, and that can be hard to recover from.

Any estimates on how much $ they've taken from people and failed to deliver a product for?

The multiple hard luck stories prior to the complete disapearence doesn't bode well.

It is sad- they could have written their own ticket by making some fine looking knives.

Some one needs to take the next step and press charges or file a claim in municipal court. What ever it takes- then maybe the truth would come out?

The knife I got from them from the For Sale section here is really nice. It seems odd to think that they'd put out some great knives then just take money and try to run with it. I mean they have a website and people know their contact info including their full names. It very well could be that they've run into some trouble but hopefully they'll get back on their feet and make things right. If it were a scam there are a lot easier ways to con people out of money.
