Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

This workhorse cut cardboard yesterday and will again today. Making a template for an oddly shaped piece of sheetrock. I used a razor knife for the sheetrock.

My 8OT did 7 Clementines, a Gala Apple, opened the mail and a bag of cat food then accompanied me out to help fix a section of downed fence. :D

Used my viper to cut leather and used the awl on the pioneer in the corner to drill holes in said leather to make a crudely assembled pocket sheathe for my zippo and the SAK.

here is the finished product. Not pretty, but it is functional and keeps the SAK and the zippo from banging in to each other all the time.

This was my first foray into leatherwork. I am looking forward to getting better at it ;)

Today my Case Rancher CV Sowbelly rode around in the watch pocket of my Riggs work jeans with me. She cut a secret door in the side of a cardboard box so my daughter could sneak out when doing her "magic tricks". Then later we were outside and I used the warncliffe blade again to trim some branches off a black cherry walking staff I made to go on an "adventure" with my daughter in the woods out back beyond the swamp. When we came back inside the Rancher made quick work of a granny smith apple so my daugher and I could enjoy some old-fashioned caramel dip. Later I used the Rancher to make the best stew I've ever had in my life. I would post a link here to the recipe, but I know how anal some forums are about external links. I'll just say it is Paula Dean's Old-Fashioned Beef Stew recipe and it shouldn't be too hard to find. I tweaked it a bit, I am calling it the "Sowbelly Stew" from now on. I think I've already had 4 big bowls of it and will probably have another one pretty soon!

I'm loving that Case #58137, but I will be honest...I missed the longer clip blade on my large stockman when I was slicing up the roast meat and potatos for the stew! Still, the little Rancher got the job done and I managed not to cut myself.

That sounds like a great day with your daughter. I'm sure she'll have fond memories of you and that Rancher.

She's 3 yrs old and already loves holding that burnt stag sowbelly. She almost pets it sometimes, as if she is just drinking in the texture and fit/finish of it. I think that's one HELLOVA great accolade when even a 3 year old has the innate sense of appreciation for the knife you created! Kudos W.R. Case and Sons and congrats on 125 years of pioneer spirit!

I framed it too tight, and used my vintage old timer to notch the studs.

Well let's see, today the TC Barlow cut open several packages as I did home improvement projects. It cut down a plastic cottage cheese cup so it would suit my needs as a scoop to get paint out of a gallon paint can. It cut a tag off a new bath towel (hate tags!). Later in the day it prepped a couple chicken breasts for the grill and then was my dinner knife for same when it was time for supper. :)

My Barlow with after dinner Pipe I've had for 30 years :)

I was on the firerange this evening and the penblade of the #66 Serpentine Jack opened several packages of .30-30 and 8x57 IS (lever action and Mauser K98) ammunition today. It was a great evening there - though the results were not that great - we had a winterbreak there and I need to do much more training >:D
