Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

Where approximately in the Long White Cloud do you reside ?
When does a Bream become a Snapper ?

Ken

Western Bay Of Plenty...Directly offshore is Mayor Island..Famous gamefishing spot X....Lotsa big bitey things out there if your that way inclined.....Ive heard of bream but had no idea they were like our snapper?..We call them schnapper..Due to the colder waters down here our schnapper is considered a better eating fish than Australian Golden Schnapper..But us Kiwis would say that............................FES

Yes you would ...wouldn't you.
We all know that Australian Flathead is the rolls royce of the tasty fish world.
Bream and Snapper are two distinctly different species of fish-the black or silver bream known as Tarwhine averages about 25cm whereas your Snapper (a big ugly knucklehead of a fish albeit very good eating) will get up to around 125cm.Young snapper we call
'pinkies' are known as red bream up to 1.5kg just to confuse everyone.A big snapper would top 20kg.A really good Bream/Tarwhine 2kg maybe.
sound about right Fes?

Meako...You are correct mate...Tastiest fish is subjective though...Ive eaten flathead before and wouldnt care if i never ate it again..
Puukko....Fine plumage indeed !.............................FES

This one arrived yesterday. It peeled and cut the potatoes for corn chowder, and then went to work on the cheese. I had expected it to be a carbon blade, but I'm beginning to think this may be stainless?

Andy that is by far one of the best Schrade patterns I have seen. I love that. I can't make out the tang stamp what is the pattern no.?

My Boy's Knife helped me make a tasty pasta dish :)

Luv'ly bit o' plumage onnat wun, ey guv.

Nail it to a perch, before it muscles up to that gunwale, and voom!

Let's see, I used my jarvenpaa puukko to whittle a plug from an old toothbrush to replace my missing toothpaste cap.
Whittled a bit on a stick with my Queen peanut, which keeps loosening up and is failing to grow on me for that reason.

My Tidioute #53 was with me at work. However, it only saw service putting the end of a delicious hand raised pork pie and a tasty british apple.

Once I got home it stepped aside and my Grohmann helped handle some food prep....Jambalaya tonight!

You hand raise pork pies? Excellent

My Spearpoint Charlow helped me make a SERIOUS penne arabiatta. Put some patina on the Charlow and some colour in my cheeks! 'Brutale!'

Jack, I confess, it was from a butchers up in Whitburn.

My brothers has done a BIG hand raised pork pie the last two Christmases though.

That looks great by the way Jack. I figured I needed some 'fuoco' too. It's got real chilly out there an my new colleague has lergies. Need to keep the pestilence at bay.

Thanks my friend. I might have overdone it with the chillis a bit, my face was still hurting 30 minutes later! :D

It's a different knife, anyway: yet another stick. (I'm clearing out the basement a bit. This one is off a walnut tree behind my former house.)
I haven't used this jarvenpaa much because it was expensive, by my lights, and it's so pretty I'm afraid of breaking it.
Sucker can cut though.

I've been down with what my Dr. said was (this close) to pneumonia for the past 7+ days. That's the tastiest thing I've seen in a while.

Bob

Thanks Bob, it couldn't be easier to make. Sorry to hear you've been ill, hope you're starting to feel better now. I've a whole pan of soup in the refrigerator if you want to pop round for a bowl or two :)
