Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

My Rough Rider Half- hawk cut the twine on the horses' hay, trimmed a range of weeds out of the yard ( I'd say lawn but that's being generous!), cut some stay branches, cleaned the reel mower, stripped the bark off a walking cane that I was going to do something fancy with until I messed it up and crushed a tick. Meanwhile I used the saw on my SAK Camper to cut the frozen bread that I managed to forget to take out the night before... doh!

A big weekend for me.I processed 53 eels and butchered a stag and a boar today..I got to use all my work knives..One excelled........Fes

FES, your recent posts with the eels brought me back many years to a time when me, my brother, dad and uncles would go at night and catch a bunch of them in the river back home. Best eating fish ever! We caught them with shiners an a line, very lively and squirmy when landed! A quick steam and then onto the charcoal fired grill they had the sweetest flavor. That is quite a haul you showed here! Good eats :D

Flyer...I too have fond memories of eeling with my father and siblings..Harder but simpler times...Heres the boar...............Fes

Great photos Fes! How do you cook/prepare eels? I have never heard of anyone eating them. Thanks.
Nice boar too.

You put them in a hessian sack with salt...This takes the slime off them...Gut then wash, salt heavily and hang to dry...Then cold smoke 20 - 30 hours.......Fes

Thanks Fes. I have smoked Salmon on a smoker and have had smoked Whitefish and suckers. Love smoked fish.

I saw an episode of River Monsters featuring some might good-sized eels in your land. One diver swears they were trying to forcing him down deeper....for lunch!

Nice pics. Really like that fixed blade in the last pic. I don't carry traditionals often and especially slip joints but been carrying this one around last 4 days. Been getting a descent workout in woods.
