Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

I didn't get any knife pictures, but we had my son's birthday party at the park today. It was just after he blew out the candles that my wife realized we forgot the knife to cut the cake. My #23 trapper came to the rescue. As it turns out, the spey blade is the perfect length to cut a sheet cake.

I was clearing up some storm-splayed pokeweed, and wondered if it would make a good walking stick. Turns out Thoreau thought so. It's very fibrous, and cuts better at a whittling angle than straight across. So we'll see.

I think I have it now. This is from April, my son got his first turkey and used his Scout.

Great dad/knife to the rescue! I bet he thought that was cool. Hope you all had a blast for his birthday!

Pfft. A five year old with the looming presence of chocolate birthday cake? I could have cut that thing with a lightsaber and he wouldn't have noticed. My wife sure did appreciate it, though. And, I got to feel like a manly man for having a knife handy that could save the day. :D

I installed new hinges on a new cabinet door - then needed to fit the door to an old cabinet frame; my new hinges weren't built quite exactly like the old ones - I needed to relieve a little wood off the cabinet frame to seat the hinges. I took most of it off with a small chisel, then cleaned it up and smoothed it out with the spey blade on my 34OT - best use of a short spey blade I've ever come across (not being a hog farmer). OH

The spay blade deserves respect. I used one of my Buck 303's spay blade recently to enlarge the bolt hole for a deadbolt that was sticking. ( Luckily the strike plate was ok. where it was.)

My Diamond Radio Jack helped me make a tasty Penne Arabiatta :)

My Charlow helped me wrap up a large NZ-bound parcel! :)

The Western needed a bath after I used the sheepsfoot to peel the plastic pots off a couple of columnar yews and slash their pot-bound roots. The nice thin Remington cut some tough garden hose very nicely.

Maybe the yellow looks yellower next to the green.
I was so happy to find a like-new Barlow with solid bolsters, the handles could have been anything. They've grown on me though.

I didn't see this response to KBA's reaction to your birthday story until today. It made me laugh out loud :D:D It's been a long time since I partied with a 5-year-old, but I remember exactly what you're talking about!

I've got one of those out going parcels to New Zealand going out tomorrow as well Jack:D

Hope your well Jack, you and Duncan were brought up in dinner conversation with friends and family the other night. My wife Nanc is so blown away by the friendships I have on the traditional forum;)
